The history of the Individual clubs within Toastmasters International - District 69
These histories are arranged alphabetic order. Similar to the district Directory
These club records have been compiled form hand written records, original documents (if
available) and sourced from various information supplied by club members.
Sincere thanks to all those members who have corrected the information and added to the histories.
NOTE
A starting point for the electronic record is Toastmasters International listing of clubs as at 1st July 2013. There are
many clubs that have been suspended within the boundaries of District 69 since 1958 when Australia’s 2nd club,
Toowoomba Toastmasters, was chartered. There is an unknown number of proposed clubs that never proceeded
to obtain a formal charter for whatever reason.
Leaders by Design Club No 1315472
This club is for Toastmasters who hold or have held District office of Area Governor (Past and
Present) or above. Also open to the District International Speech Contest Winner. The charter’s
intent was to nurture and mentor potential and current leaders to further challenges and to provide
a safe forum for practise of those leadership skills and training in other leadership skills.

History of the club and Listing of Charter Members
HISTORY OF THE CLUB
As Supplied by Marie Westwood , President of Lockyer Valley on 1/12/2013
On Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Gatton, the Rosewood Toastmasters held a demonstration
Toastmasters meeting and a form to apply to organise a Toastmasters Club was
distributed.
The following week on June 26 members of the Lockyer Valley community started a six
week Speechcraft course which was well attended and finished on July 31.
August 7 saw the formation of a Toastmasters Club in the Lockyer Valley called The
Lockyer Valley Toastmasters Club.
On Friday 15 August, the then District Governor, Lesley Storkey, presented the Lockyer
Valley Toastmasters Charter papers up on stage at the Toastmasters International
Convention in America to form the first new Toastmasters Club in the world for the
Toastmasters 2008/2009 year.
The club was officially chartered on September 1st, 2008.
Records confirm that there was a Toastmasters Club in Gatton from August 1983 to April
1996. Four original members of this club attended the charter dinner. They were Eric and
Valerie Halmer and Barry and Eileen Prior.
May we all live in harmony for the betterment of Toastmasters.
We are pleased you have made the commitment to attend a meeting of the Lockyer Valley Toastmasters Club.
We hope you will be one of the team players and that you will be happy in our club environment. Let us all
remember the Club Promise and keep the club healthy and the spirit alive.

Charter Dinner 14th September 2013
Presentation by David Burston – District Public relations Officer 2011-13
Mark Liddle wrote “We had an awesome evening for our charter function - even though it was rather small, as Mt
Isa is a very transient town and also the collapse in the mining boom we had already lost over half our original
member and this was extremely unfortunate.
For the evening we had David Burston as our Toastmaster who did a fabulous job, we had as a guest the Mayor of
Mt Isa Tony McGrady and his wife Sue, and a toastmaster from Cairns Anne Becka, 6 Charter members and their
families, and a few prospective members that had attended a Speechcraft course that day (Dave Burston kindly
ran that for us) So it was a small but fantastic evening with good food and company.”
