    “GROWING AND LEARNING TOGETHER”

To Parents and Carers, Week 2— Term 2

    Hello CFS Family

Our 11 week term 1 has been and gone.

Several parents and children commented on

how tired they were at the end of term. It is

something that we need to reflect upon as the

Education Department will be reviewing the

structure of the school year in 2022, and we will

all have some input into that process. Like all

new initiatives, we need to give it a fair go,

and by 2022 we will all have a clear idea on

what is good and not so good with the current

    structure.

We had an incident last term in which three

students decided to leave the school grounds

during the school day. This obviously resulted in

a great deal of concern for the staff at the

school. Fortunately the students were located

by the Principal in Lockheed Street, and were

    brought back to school safely.

Most schools in the NT do not have lockable

boundary fences; indeed we are schools, not

prisons. It is understood that children must

remain in the school grounds, and I hope this

message is reinforced by families as often as it

is by staff at the school. There are a number of

“safe places” an upset child can go to if they

need some personal space. Leaving the

school without permission from a member of

staff or a parent is never an option.

In instances where a child does leave the

school without permission; whilst the school has

duty of care, we do not have the resources to

launch a full scale search. In such instances,

the Police are called immediately and the

resources of the Police, Fire and Emergency

Services can then be deployed to locate and

return a missing child. The child’s welfare then

    becomes a Police matter.

Needless to say, the ramifications of such

    extensive and expensive searches are

    significant for all parties.

Please talk to your child about the importance

of staying safe and staying in school. All

students are encouraged to identify some

“safe people” within the school and some

“safe places” that they can go to when they

    are struggling with an issue.

Our Mother’s Day stall will be running next

Wednesday 8 May. This is a great fundraiser for

the school and a great opportunity for children

to buy their mums and carers something nice

for Mother’s Day. Centrepay students can talk

to their teacher about using money from their

    accounts.

A special thanks to all the families who got

involved in the Preschool Trivia night last Friday.

The night was an outstanding success!

    ASSEMBLY

  • Sunday 7th April saw the Preschool community tend to our grounds. 10 families

volunteered there time and equipment to complete maintenance tasks. This in-

cluded extensive weeding, trenching, moving soil, pruning, lifting and chain

    sawing.

The garden is in the best shape it’s been in for years! The main planting bed re-

ceived an overhaul and is now ready for dry season produce crops.

Thank you to all involved. What a wonderful community we have.

  • SPORTS with Miss Lansdown

Another successful day on the field:

The Under 12’s Rugby League Development Day was a huge success full of fun and excitement. CFS

Storm played against Katherine High School and Katherine South Primary School and finished 2nd. The girls

made some big tackles, smart decisions and good runs. It was impressive to see so many year 3-4’s out

there tackling girls double their size. Our captains La Shani McDonald, Jazmeralda Mota and Ella Perduns

shared their knowledge of the game positively and encouraged their team mates. Kalisha Huckstadt-

Rankine won best on ground for the day by bringing her team mates into the game and bouncing back

after an injury. Thanks to Darren and Jarrod from NRL for helping us to continue to develop our

    confidence in skills in NRL.

Congratulations: Sendy Frederick, La Shani McDonald, Akeima Lake, Olivia Donzow, Kalisha Huckstadt-

Rankine, Daina Bostock, Akia-Marie Lake, Tio Hughes, Brianna Limerick, Breanna Hagar-Andrews, Breanne

Payne, Ella Perduns, Leearna Hargar-Andres, Mercii McAdam and Jazmeralda Mota
