PRAY THE ROSARY!!

A few updates on happenings in our Logan County Parishes:

Mass at Vonderlieth Nursing Home in Mt. Pulaski is now scheduled for the second and third Thursdays of the month. Mass begins at 11 am and is open to those who

would like to attend. After discussing the daily Mass schedule at a recent Parish/Finance Council meeting, it was agreed upon to offer two Masses per month at the nursing home and for the immediate future, not have a regularly scheduled Thursday morning Mass at St Thomas.

Other Nursing Home Masses include St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln, which is scheduled for the first Friday of the month at 1:30 pm. This Mass is also open to those who would like to attend. Additionally, there is monthly Mass at Friendship Manor, in Lincoln.

Welcome Father Joseph Cox, OSB: Father Joseph will be serving our Logan County Parishes during the month of June 2015. Father John Pham will be studying spirituality at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska during the month of June. We wish Father John a safe and educationally enriching month of study.

Father Simon will be making a visit to his home country of Tanzania, Africa, sometime this fall. No dates have been set for his return visit, and once his dates are secure, I will let you know when he will travel home.

Father Laible will return to Tantur Ecumenical Institute, Jerusalem, leaving in late June and returning in mid-July. Father Laible will be taking classes in Scripture, Church History, Inter-faith Religious Issues, etc., while also helping Tantur to develop a program for military chaplains.

The Combined Parish Council began meeting this past fall and will be meeting regularly to assist with the overall continued spiritual development of our Logan County Parishes. This newly formed group is an outgrowth of the Diocesan wide Growing in Faith study, which eventually “linked” our Logan County Parishes.

We will not be accepting heavy exercise equipment, clothing, electronics nor shoes. May-the Month of Mary and the Rosary!

Come join the residents at 10:15 am in the St. Clara’s Manor Chapel to pray the Rosary. A gathering to pray the Rosary takes place on the second Monday of each month at St. Clara’s Manor. On the first Monday of each month the Rosary is prayed at St. Mary’s Church at 9 am. Also, every Thursday at 12 Noon the Rosary is recited at Holy Family Church.

The last Carroll Catholic School Culver’s (2530 Woodlawn Road, Lincoln) Fundraiser for this 2014-2015 school year will take place this Wednesday, May 20 from 10:30 am-10 pm. Ten percent of all sales go to CCS. Remember to mention Carrol Catholic School when making your purchase!!! Thank you for all your support this past year!!!

ACT (Ac�ve Catholic Teens) Fundraiser Info

ACT has kicked off their annual fundraiser for the Steubenville Youth Conference. Parishioners can find a poster board at the back of each church with envelopes for dona�ons. Each envelope will have a dollar amount on it. Parishioners may choose the envelope with the amount they would like to donate. Put the dona�on in the envelope and drop it in the collec�on basket. The Steubenville Youth Conference will take place in Springfield, MO, July 10th through 12th. This is a fantas�c conference for teens! At the Masses, over the next few weeks, teens will be speaking about this conference. One quote from a teen that a-ended last year: "There were so many wonderful things about Steubenville. My favorite part was definitely Adora�on. There is such a deep connec�on when you get to love the Lord, Our God, during this �me. Not only did I get to be close to God, but I also got to see how He moves and works through other teens around me. It was a beau�ful experience that will s�ck with me for the rest of my life." Dominican Faith Camp Dominican Faith Camp Dominican Faith Camp Dominican Faith Camp Female students entering 6th grade to 9th grade, join us for Dominican Faith Camp at Sacred Heart Convent, Springfield, IL! The event will be held July 12-14. Campers enjoy a safe summer holiday and learn more about Dominican Life. Emmaus Days Emmaus Days is a retreat for young men sponsored by the Office of Priestly Vocations. It gives guys the chance

to learn how to listen for God's will in their daily lives. The retreat offers time for prayer, the sacraments, and devotions, while saving lots of time for fun and fraternity too. Seminarians and priests of the diocese offer talks and share their vocation stories, and Bishop Jenky always makes an appearance! Stay home if you are running a fever, or have a sore throat, cough, etc., or if you are caring for a person with these symptoms as you too may be infected with the flu.

Err on the side of caution. When ill, the obligation to attend Mass does not apply. If this is a lengthy illness, contact our

Ministry to the Sick coordinator, Mary Kay Lohrenz (217) 732-4019 or email mklohrenz@logancountycatholic.org or

contact our Parish Nurse, Carol Mills at (217) 735-2293.

Do not bring gum, food or drink into the vestibule, adoration chapel or the church. Catholics abstain from

these as we prepare to receive the Bread of Life. If absolutely necessary, infants may have simple cereal (e.g.

Cheerios), preferably in the vestibule. Sugary foods and drinks cause damage and invite insects. Kindly clean up

after your children.

Dress appropriately. Holy Mass is the high point in the life of a Catholic, crowned by

Sacramental Communion with Jesus Christ. Overly casual, worn/torn, or provocative

clothing is unsuitable and can offend/tempt a brother or sister in Christ.

Respect the needs of all members. Infants should be given wide latitude but other parishioners (particularly our elders)

also deserve sensitivity and regard. Constantly troubled or fussy children should be

consoled in the vestibule.

Remain until the end of every Mass. Leaving Mass early is inappropriate, particularly after Communion and without a serious reason, and it sets a poor example for others, beginning with the young.

Stay in your seat. Bathroom or other breaks should be avoided during Mass, but especially after the “Holy, Holy.” The Eucharistic Prayer is the holy center of the Liturgy that deserves undivided attention and the fewest possible distractions.

Kindly, turn off Cell Phones upon entering church.

Before Exiting Church please place the hardback hymnals in the center of the pew and the soft back Music Issues and Missals in the plastic holders on the back of the pew.

Before Mass, please Observe Silence for the benefit of those who would like to pray quietly and without distraction as we prepare for the liturgy.

Keep crayons, markers and colored pens from your children during Mass. They damage pews and seats. If your children need stimulus during Mass, please allow them to read from a picture book or take them to the vestibule or school playground.

Notify us of Accidents, they do happen. Do not allow a mess or problem that should be addressed immediately to be “discovered” later. Notify one of the ushers or priests.

Refrain from chewing Gum on all four Church premises and at Carroll Catholic School. As we have all seen, some of it ends up on sidewalks, and under pews and desks. As

Catholics we fast for an hour before Holy Communion and put aside any foodstuffs, including gum. Only

water and medicine do not break the communion fast.

Encourage visitors who are with you, and are not Catholic, to come forward for a blessing and show this intention by crossing arms over the chest. We believe in the fundamental unity of the baptized but Holy Communion celebrates full “communion” in faith and life with

Catholicism (this is why we do not ordinarily share Communion with non-Catholics).

Ask before posting signs, moving furnishings, redecorating the church, watering flowers in church,

etc. We have volunteers already lined up for these things. If you would like to join the team that cares for our premises, please notify the Parish Office.

The school, inside and out, is under Video Surveillance. Moreover, our school is also alarmed. Please take note.

Incense is used at all funerals. Incense is part of Catholic worship. For those with asthma, the bulletin will state in advance if incense will be used during any other part of the Church year.

Actively Participate in the Liturgy. Respond to the prayers, join in song, and pray with devotion, especially after Holy Communion when you are united with the Savior.

Finally, remember to attend Mass when on Vacation. If you foresee the impossibility of fulfilling your Sunday obligation while traveling, speak with the pastor in advance.
