Today we will be continuing with ‘partitioning’ numbers. This is just a fancy way of saying that

we are going to split a number up into parts!

Please choose one task to complete from below. Each task has a page within this document and also a teaching clip to

go with it.

Mild – splitting up the numbers 5 and 6 into 2 groups

Spicy – splitting up the numbers 8 and 9, creating number sentences

Hot – splitting up the number 10, creating number sentences for 10

First, watch the little clip of how to split a number up into parts (mild teaching clip).

In this clip, I was using 5 teddies and they were going into 2 houses.

Can you continue doing this for the number 5 by using 5 objects in your house. Each time you split them into 2 groups,

try to say the number sentence – like this;

…………… and ………… makes 5

If you can manage, you could write the number sentence – like this;

5 + 0 = 5

If you manage to make all of the different number sentences for 5, you could try again but this time using 6

objects?

Now you could use the following link to play adding/counting games -

First, watch the clip, showing how we can split up a number into two groups (spicy/hot teaching clip)

In this clip, I was using 8 doughnuts and I was splitting them up between 2 plates.

Can you continue doing this for the number 8 by using 8 objects in your house (buttons, Lego, raisins etc) Each time you split them into 2 groups, try to say the number sentence – like

this;

…………… and ………… makes 8

Now, can you manage to write the number sentences in your jotter – like this;

8 + 0 = 8

7 + 1 = 8

If you manage to make all of the different number sentences for 8, you could try again but this time using 9 objects?

Can you match the fish to the rods (one has been done for you)? They must make 8 each time (you can use your 8 objects to help you!) You

can write the number pairs in your jotter.

First, watch the clip, showing how we can split up a number into two groups (spicy/hot teaching clip)

Today, we are going to think about the number 10 and the different ways that we can make it!

Can you collect 10 objects (pens, buttons, sweets …) You are going to split these 10 objects into 2 groups (just like I did in the clip). Each

time you split the 10 objects up, try to say the sentence -

‘………… and ………… makes 10’

And then try to write the sentence –

………….+………… = 10

You could write the different ways into your jotter or on to paper! Can you find all of the different ways that we can make 10?

Now, look at these numbers below, can you find the pairs of numbers that go together to make 10? One pair has been matched already!

Can you colour them to match or write them beside each other in your jotter! You can use your objects to help if you need to!
