Dear Kamat Khandaan members, It is great to see the enthusiasm of all the franchisees and owners across the country. As we approach the season of vacations, more and more people are going to set out to travel. And this would be one of the crucial times for us as we must ensure that every customer is serviced with the same quality that Kamats is known for. I’m sure that people will not only remember Kamats for the lovely food but also for our hospitality and it would be cherished, getting them back again and again. Thank you. Dear Kamat Khandaan members, It was really great to visit so many outlets across the Pune and Gujarat region. I am highly inspired by the level of innovation and hard work each one is putting in, to make their outlet the best one. I have collected a lot of Action points that we would be discussing and implementing very soon. The goal is to reach maximum number of people through our quality of service, no matter which outlet they visit. Khed Shivapur We started from VITS Pune at 8.30 am sharp and our first outlet was planned for Khed Shivapur. There Ajit Palkar was all set with a spanking clean outlet, and his latest find who he was praises about – Ram Birje. And while both were happy about each other, it was heartening to learn that Ajit is planning 2 more outlets, including shifting of the present outlet (he’s paying an unbelievably high rent presently!!). In the outlets, he’s taking Birje as Partner! Way to go Ajit. As I was saying good bye from the site of the new outlet, not too far from the existing one, Ajit commented “Mi nashibvan ahe toh bhetaila and toh nashibvan ahe mala bhetaila!” (I’m lucky to meet him, and he’s lucky to meet me ). That’s so true. And so, my opening outlet visit got off to a very good and positive start. Mahabaleshwar Next we went straight to meet Pramod of Mahableshwar outlet. In the heart of mahableshwar, as we parked the car and walked down the steps into the outlet, we asked for Pramod and the staff proudly said, “Pramod Sir, Kitchen main Hain!” We went ahead and Pramod’s hard at work in the kitchen, managing some of the orders. As he was surrounded by lodges and hotels, and in most cases people would always prefer Kamats. I showed him our soon to be launched delivery food containers, and he was interested. While he was already doing some parcels, more is always welcome!! Panchgani In Panchgani outlet, we were greeted by our Marketing Master Mind – Digvijay. And as I got down and greeted him I said “Adhi Sticker Lawa!” this was referring to the Visited Kamats sticker he puts and had recently shown all of us at the committee meeting few days ago. I have had that sticker on the car and been feeling like quite the VIP for these 2 days. I strongly recommend taking Digvijay’s lead and using these stickers. We’re paying thousands for hoarding and small boards. Each day more than 6000 people are visiting Kamats. Imagine the number of hoardings we could have if we just had our sticker on even 10 percent (that’s 3600 cars each month, over 4 lac cars each year!). We then had amazing food at his other outlet Hirkani Dear Khandaan members, I had amazing field trips! One was across the Pune region visiting over 25 outlets. Another was my visit to Mayank and Mrunal and the various outlets in Gujarat (presently 3 outlets). I got to meet so many owners, at their outlets and see what they are doing special in addition to the Kamats support. Many suggestions and lots of Inspiration from owners that we can continue to achieve amazing success in the days, months and years to come! Khandan March - April 2016

Our MissionTo create, nurture and guide 4000 owners into hospitality business to succeed through Kamats in the next 10 years and increase the number of outlets from 50 to 4000.

SataraAt Satara, we were greeted by our Award winning toilet cleanliness awardees, Parvez and Tanveer along with Nasir and Sohail in the kitchen. I inspected the toilets, and yes, it really deserved to win! And what I also learnt and really liked from Parvez was when I visited the ladies toilets with him. He had even kept a proper bin and notice for the ladies requesting to throw the sanitary napkin in the bins. Yes its true, women’s hygiene is less talked about for multitude of reasons. And to think of the customer, especially the ladies and add Suvidha for them in this much neglected area, Hats off Parvez! Parvez also improved upon our toilet cleaners’ incentive where we have the contribution box for clean toilets. We had started by putting a steel box, but Parvez improved it with a nice transparent melamine box. It looked classy, and stylish.

Kini At Kini, we were welcomed by Harshad Patil, Sandeep Patil and his Ajoba and Father. Was a pleasure meeting them both. Harshad Patil‘s grandfather had been the pioneer in setting up the nearby MIDC and a photo of President Late Abdul Kalam was on the wall. The outlet located in their own field adjoining the highway meant that they grew quite a few vegetables also. The kitchen with its open design was neat and clean. But still there is some scope which I’m sure Harshad Patil & Sandeep Patil will take care of, immediately.

SangliThe next outlet we proceeded to was Sangli. We discussed about delivery since their

outlet is in the heart of city. In fact, due to congestion the city is moving all government offices out. And the plan is to have an outlet there too. I agreed immediately, after all Kamats is a Breakfast specialist and all day snacks specialist. It works best where people have limited time, budget and options.

Kawte Mahankal Our first stop on the second day was Kawte Mahankal. I must appreciate the extreme positivity all three brothers had and openness to implement all the suggestions immediately. Manali Institute of Hotel Management, Karad also updated about doing a show and seminar for students in Kohlapur side which will help get staff for entire cluster since hotels and restaurants is considered below dignity for most students and their parents. Satish liked the idea and later in the car instantaneously contacted that principal. The meeting being set for later was off to a good start.

PandharpurNext on our list was Pandharpur. This again a big city outlet, for tackling dinners, had launched Veg Dum Biryani as their outlets’ local speciality. It was tasty indeed. This was first location where I was tied a Safa by the owner. And on top of it, I was honoured to be asked to do Pooja of their latest dumper truck. I got to know of the more than 30 dumpers they have in service, the upcoming mall they are building right adjoining, and the tractor dealership they also have. Really multi-talented and multi-faceted no doubt!

YavatWe proceeded to Yavat 1 outlet. Parag had

moved this outlet from the earlier location. And what a huge difference! The outlet was very nice. Compact and good design. He also had a nice light board. The toilets very clean. The orientation of the outlet also was very good, with it being at angle to highway giving excellent visibility rather than making it parallel to the highway which loses visibility. I think this is a key learning for future outlets. The other outlet at Yavat of Sandip Shelke was also an absolutely beautiful outlet. Definitely beyond the choice of most owners to make, but I’m sure when we go we all can appreciate it. We could only suggest that in terms of the outlet, i.e., putting the washroom tip box so that the Mama would be rewarded for keeping the toilets clean.

KondapuriWe then met Shailesh Ghule and Mayur at the Kondapuri outlet. Again, one of our award winning outlets. The location was well-maintained, clean and at ideal location on the way to Ranjan gaon. We discussed on numerous points including idea of a food van for MIDC; both at this outlet and at Jejuri MIDC near Saswad outlet. Also, we discussed the need for an app and better ease of location of outlets and if we could upload the menus on the website so people can see rates and order online and pick up. He has a lot of people who order and tell to keep ready so they can just drop by and pick up the food on way to factory / work. Super suggestions by all the owners on which work has already started as I have return back.

Dear Khandaan Members, The Kamat Khandaan’s exclusive story featured in the Dec 2015 issue spoke about how Mr. Aliyas Dsouza sponsored Pramod's career growth. Aliyas is now being appreciated and felicitated for his generous gesture.

Pramod is a dedicated Khandaan member who has worked in various outlets at a variety of locations. While he was working for Aliyas as a Manager of his outlet, he utilized the sponsorship program, becoming a Kamats franchisee and has now started his own outlet at Mahabaleshwar.

As per the sponsorship program, when your employee becomes a franchisee, you are entitled to 1 percent of royalty. Mr. Aliyas thus received a sum of Rs. 34,448/- as his well-deserved share.
