Tug enders must work harder, or

    longer and under more extreme

    conditions than any other ender

type. Tugs may be ftted with up to

our types o ender each type

    serving a particular application.

    As many tugs become more

    powerul, some exceeding 100t

bollard pull, choosing the right type, size and arrangement o enders

    becomes critical.

    When selecting enders, designers

    TUGFENDERS

    Cylindrical fenders

    Fitted to the bow/stern o

tugs and usually used to push

against ared hulls and in open

    sea conditions.

    Pushing fenders

Block, Cube and W- and M-

enders provide large contactsuraces or low hull pressures.

    Their grooved suraces

    provide exceptional grip.

    Side beltings

    D, Square and Wing-D enders

are oten used as side beltings

    to protect the vessel during

    escort duties and when coming

    alongside.

    Transition Blocks

Transition Blocks are used toprovide a smooth interace

    between side beltings and

    bow/stern enders.

    Large cylindrical enders are oten

used as the primary pushing enders

on the bow or stern o modern tugs.

Their round shape is ideal or working

with large bow ares (like container

ships), but are equally good or

    pushing at-sided vessels.

    Tug Cylindricals come in diameters

to 1000mm and in very long

continuous or spigot-joined lengths.A longitudinal chain runs down the

    centre o the ender, supplemented

    by circumerential straps or chains

    which are recessed into grooves.

    Tapered ends are also available.

    Attachment

    Smaller enders (500mm diameter) are

usually fxed by a longitudinal chain through

the bore o the ender, connected to the hull

by turnbuckles to tension the chain. Larger

enders oten use supplementary chains or

    M-FENDERS

M-Fenders have a large and exible

contact ace which exerts a low

    pressure during pushing operations.

    The grooves provide extra grip

and the triple legs give a strong

    attachment to the tug. M-Fenders

can also be ftted around tight

    curves, whilst their relative low

    weight adds to tug stability.

    W-FENDERS

W-Fenders are made or the most

    extreme operating conditions.

    Originally developed by Trelleborg

in the world today. It has a unique

    BLOCK

    FENDERS

Block and Cube Fenders have a

    traditional keyhole profle which

is strong and ideal or heavy-duty

    applications. There is a choice

o grooved or at ace enders

    depending on the required riction

levels. Where very low riction is

needed, Block and Cube Fenders can

also be made as Composite enderswith integral UHMW-PE aces. This is

    Composite enders* combine

    rubber or resilience and UHMW-PE

    or low-riction and wear resistant

    properties. The two materials are

    bonded with a special vulcanising

    method stronger and more reliable

    than a mechanical joint. Composite

    enders are used where the

    simplicity o extrusions are required

    but with lower shear orces.

DC and SC enders have a circular

    Extruded enders are available in
