On behalf of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), I am delighted to welcome you to historic Valeggio in the Italian province of Veneto for the FEI World Endurance Championships for Young Horses. Valeggio sul Mincio, Verona, is one of the many scenic regions of the country and its lush countryside and picturesque trails lend themselves perfectly to the challenge and beauty of Endurance competition.These Championships are a great chance for everyone involved: the breeders, owners and riders of course but most importantly the young horses themselves, who will all be seven years of age at the time of competing and able to show their prowess. Perhaps some of the horses and riders who we see in Valeggio today will appear again in future as World Endurance champions! It is in this tradition of heritage and hope that we will enjoy these important championships. New talent will surely be discovered and motivate those here to go on to even greater things.For the young horses, the 120 km course is a useful marker in competition terms based their age and is also vital as it respects horse welfare, a concept which is at the very heart of our sport and everything the FEI stands for.This year however it will be known for playing host to some of the most promising Endurance talent from around the globe. We will all have the pleasure of seeing some of the most dedicated endurance riders in the world compete here, and it will be a pleasure to witness their skill and enthusiasm.I am absolutely thrilled that competitors here will have a chance to ride in such a special event in such absolutely spectacular and picturesque surroundings.Endurance is much-valued within the community of FEI disciplines and I am sure the success of this event will only reinforce this. I would like this opportunity once again to thank all those who have worked and volunteered to make this event happen.
