Prom

Prom will be May 10 from 8 – 12 pm at the Madren Center in Clemson, SC. Tickets

will be sold from April 28 – May 9. Tickets are $25 each and $45 for a couple.

Cash only will be accepted.

Only 11th and 12

th graders in good standing may purchase tickets for themselves and a

date. Those who may be in unusual grade situations (for example, those who may

be moving from 10th to 12th grade in one year, may see Mrs. Hilton for special

permission). Two upperclassmen (11th or 12

th graders) from Hanna may not buy

tickets for two people from other schools to attend the Hanna prom together. Two

upperclassmen (11th or 12

th graders) from Hanna may not buy two tickets for two

underclassmen who are younger than 11th grade to attend the prom together (for

example, two 10th graders). An 11th or 12th grader can invite a 9th or 10th grader

to the prom, but a Hanna upperclassman (11th or 12

th grader) must be one of the

individuals in the couple. Middle-schoolers may not attend the prom. Dates may

not be over 19 years old. Exceptions to this rule can only be made by Mrs. Hilton.

Expelled students or those suspended pending expulsion may not attend the prom.

If a Hanna student invites a student to the prom from another school, that student

cannot be expelled from that school or have a serious disciplinary record (this will be

determined by the administration at TLH). Criminal background checks will be done

on all students attending the prom who are not from TLH.

When you buy a "couples" ticket, you must know your date's name, address, age,

school of attendance, and grade. You will need your school ID to purchase tickets

and to redeem your ticket at the prom. Your date will need a school ID and/or

other picture ID as well to enter Prom. Switching dates because of illness or

emergencies will require all of the same safety checks as mentioned above.

Gentlemen's Dress Code:

Formal prom attire may be classified as a tuxedo or dress suit, including a tie, bow

tie, a collared shirt, and may include a vest. Shirts are to be worn at all times.

Students may not remove shirts during Prom. Dress shoes must be worn. Tennis

shoes are unacceptable - make sure shoes have non-marking soles.

Ladies Dress Code:

Dresses may be strapless or include spaghetti straps. Bare or open backs are

acceptable; however, girls should not wear dresses with excessively low backs

extending beyond the hips. Bare abdomens or bare midriffs are not permitted. Two

piece dresses that expose the midriff and dresses that have cutouts are not allowed.

Sheer/see-through fabric over bare areas is not acceptable. Undergarments should

not be visible. See-through apparel and dresses with slits that are above the mid-thigh

are not permitted. Garments that are excessively tight or low-cut in front are also not

acceptable. All garments should reach at least mid-thigh.

Dancing

Any dancing that is appropriate will result in students being sent home and parents

notified.

Breathalyzers

We will be using breathalyzers that require that students blow into them to register

any amount of alcohol. They may be used before and/or after prom.

Attorney Kyle White Introduces Law

to Local High School Students

(from the GWB Product Liability Group Website http://www.gwblawfirm.com/attorney-kyle-white-

Natasha Elliott, Attorney Kyle White, and Joseph Roneker

Gallivan, White, and Boyd, P.A. recently had the opportunity to become involved

with students aspiring to become attorneys at TL Hanna High School, located in

Anderson, SC. Brett Thompson, Introduction to Law Teacher at TL Hanna, practiced

law in Georgia before deciding to become a teacher. He invites guest speakers

throughout the semester. Mr. Thompson thought the best way to give his students a

clearer picture of what practicing law might be like would be to invite attorneys

from various law firms to his classroom.

Kyle White, an associate in the GWB Product Liability Group, was invited to speak to

the class regarding product liability and other complex litigation cases. The class was

thoroughly engaged during his presentation. Kyle enjoyed the opportunity to

interact with the students. “It was obvious to me from the questions that the

students were asking that they have learned a lot in the class, and that they were

interested in the subject. From my perspective, the experience was quite refreshing,”

stated Kyle. The class seemed especially captivated with stories about Kyle’s run-ins

with killer bees, poisonous snakes, and the like while gathering documents and

interviewing witnesses in a rural part of Central America.

Mr. Thompson also requires his Introduction to Law students to shadow an attorney

for a day as part of the class curriculum. Two of Mr. Thompson’s students, Natasha

Elliott and Joseph Roneker, requested to shadow Kyle. During their visit, Kyle

walked Natasha and Joseph through some of the common issues that product

liability defense attorneys face and provided examples of how those issues play out

in real life. “The experience was educational. We have learned a tremendous

amount about the law from Mr. Thompson’s class, but to see the concepts applied in

an actual law office added another level of understanding,” stated

Joseph. Additionally, Kyle spoke with Natasha and Joseph about all of the moving

parts of a law firm and how GWB employees at all levels play a crucial role in the

high-quality representation the firm provides its clients. According to Natasha, “I

have always wanted to help people. I always understood that people charged with

a crime are going through a family issue and need help from lawyers, but Mr. White

helped me realize during his presentation that people who work hard to build

companies need help from lawyers, too.”

Kyle welcomed the opportunity to introduce these students to business and

commercial law. The experience was beneficial for all involved. Kyle and the rest of

GWB wish the best of luck to Natasha, Joseph, and Mr. Thompson’s class. Kyle and

the firm are very thankful for the opportunity to have an impact on the education of

aspiring attorneys.

Plan Meetings

Ninth grade IGP meetings with students and parents will begin on March 31, 2014.

Put That Teen to Work!

Students interested in working at the polls for the Primary Election to be held on

June 10, 2014, may inquire with their respective counselor. Students must be 16

years of age in order to work. Training for the event pays $60 and the Primary

Election day pays $60. Candidates who would like to work must be recommended

by his/her guidance counselor.

Knives and Electronic Cigarettes – No!

Please remind students that they should not bring pocket knives or electronic

cigarettes to school. Though many men in the South routinely carry “pocket knives,”

it is not appropriate to bring them to school. Also, there is no reason that a student

should have electronic cigarettes in the school, on school grounds, on school buses,

or at school activities. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken if students have

these items.

T. L. Hanna Fishing!

Vic Vatalaro and Noah Caulder Hanna Fishing Team with Pro Fisherman Scott Martin

Student anglers from the T.L. Hanna Fishing Team enjoyed a week of events and

fundraisers with the FLW Professional Fishing Tour as they held the Border Battle

Tournament on Lake Hartwell.

The T.L. Hanna Fishing Team and FLW partnership started before the FLW Tour

arrived in the Upstate. The Hanna Team participated in a FLW fundraiser by posting

advertising for the tournament in local businesses and restaurants. The Hanna Team

raised $548 in this fundraiser. These funds will go to the T.L. Hanna Student Angler

College Scholarship.

FLW also held an essay contest, “Get Outdoors, Go Fish!” The winner of the essay

contest, Noah Caulder, fished with professional angler Vic Vatalaro on Sunday

morning, March 9. Noah enjoyed over four hours of fishing on Mr. Vatalaro’s boat.

They caught 13 keeper-sized fish.

On Wednesday, March 5, FLW pros Scott Martin (Roland Martin’s son) and Vic

Vatalaro visited T.L. Hanna. Mr. Martin and Mr. Vatalaro spoke to students and

Hanna Fishing Team members about the sport of fishing, the importance of a good

education, and the partnership that must be present between athletes and their

sponsors. These professional fishermen also showed off their boats and trucks to the

students in front of the school.

Several of the Fishing Team anglers attended “Meet the Pros” night at Scenic

Chevrolet in Seneca on Wednesday, March 5. They enjoyed talking to pros, like

Jimmy Houston, and they enjoyed the Little Pigs BBQ and door prizes.

The T.L. Hanna Fishing Team also helped with the final weigh-in at Walmart in

Seneca. Hanna anglers helped professional anglers bring fish to the scales and helped

carry fish to the release boat back stage.
