– New Changes

The New Study Permit

The new study permit will be issued to students attending programs that take longer than six months to complete. These programs will be offered in Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) only.

Non-Designated Institutions

As expected, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has allowed a three-year window—up to June 1, 2017—for students in non-designated institutions to complete their programs.

However, students in non-designated institutions will not be allowed to extend their study permits if they change programs and/or schools.

The students will also be expected to make every effort to complete their programs.

– New Changes

Six months or less of study

•A study permit is not needed for students taking short-term courses or programs of study of six months or less. Students may enrol in short-term programs at any learning institution, regardless of whether or not it is designated.

•If the students are from a non-visa-exempt country, they must have a valid visitor visa.

Six months or more of study

•A study permit is required on or after June 1, 2014. Students will need to identify the institution by its designated learning institution number on the application form. As there is a long list of institutions to be designated, The Language Gallery is still waiting for the outcome of its application. At this time, we cannot accept students who apply to study for six month or more after June 1, 2014.
