N Notes of Interest

Trinity Gala

As I'm sure you have gathered, seen or heard the Trinity Gala, scheduled for March 28 has

been postponed. In light of everything that has been going on with COVID-19 we are

rescheduling the Gala to August 29th. We hope this will still work in your schedule so you are still able to be in attendance. Should you not have this new date available please let us know and we will refund your ticket payment.

Thank you so much for your understanding! We hope you are all staying healthy and we

hope to see you at our event on August 29th.

Thanks to everyone who sent, gave, or greeted Arnold (Arnie) Ahrens with birthday cards for his 95th birthday March 15th. Thanks also to Pastor

Watkins for the special prayer at the 8 a.m. service. He was surprised by how

many cards and well wishes he received from his Trinity family.

Trinity Playground will be closed until further notice. We are

doing this in attempt to help stop the

spread of the Corona Virus. Thank you for

understanding.

Families of Trinity, March has brought all of us unexpected, unplanned, unusual times in our world, in our homes and church. We have had to learn to quarantine ourselves from nearly every normal activity, and pray that God will help find a solution to this coronavirus (COVid 19), and to keep us well in the meantime. On March 9, the Stewardship committee met and decided again to make extra efforts to encourage more members to participate in the Electronic Giving. This isolation time in March and April, although not expected now or in the future, is another reason for you to join in Electronic Giving since the church financial needs continue week after week, regardless. If you do not presently participate by automatic giving, we invite and encourage each of you to begin a $5.00 challenge through Electronic Giving (in addition to tithes you currently give), with hopes you may be able to increase that amount later. Undoubtedly, you will not miss $5.00 that you do not see, and the weekly offerings at church will feel more needs met. Please contact Megan in the church office to help set up your Electronic Giving

form. God be with you in this new endeavor. Everyone is needed. Final note of something new: You will notice there are now pink envelopes in the hymnal racks for your use if you should forget you usual offering envelopes, in the event you do not use electronic giving. The Stewardship Committee

CHURCH OFFICE HOURS

The church office will have varying hours until school is back in session. Please contact the church at 432-5140 or email

[email protected]. I do plan to come into the office every day, so I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Megan

We need to have an emergency tree removal by the rental house. The Trustees have decided to have the tree removed due

to a large crack in the trunk causing potential safety issues. The cost will be

$1,200 to remove the tree. Please contact Denny Ackerman if you have any questions.

Trinity Scrip Program

will be on hold until school resumes. We will not be placing any orders for cards

until school is back in session. You will still be able to order e-cards on

your phone as usual.

TRINITY’S CONFIRMATION SERVICE has been postponed. Once we begin to have regular church services again

Pastor will set a new date.

BLESSED ASSURANCE While we are all waiting for this trial to be over; we need to look at the Bible and see what it has to say regarding this tribulation we are going through with the Coronavirus. One of the mailings that was sent out (the pink one), has some excellent references. The two from Rom. 8: "When you feel down and out" and "When you want Christian assurance." The Apostle Paul describes two ways of life, and they are central to the whole discussion until vs.17. To walk according to the flesh is to follow the sinful desires of one's old life. To walk according to the Spirit is to follow the desires of the Holy Spirit, to live in a way pleasing to Him. In our Baptism we learn we were to drown our old fleshly way (our old Adam) by daily contrition. Sorrow over sins and repentance. (faith) As Christians we are to please God and put away our old nature, living for Christ. We see in vs. 28 " we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Even in hardship and suffering, even in bitter disappointments, when wrongly treated, Christians can know that God will work to fulfill His purpose in His children. These difficulties are what mature us in the Christian faith. In vs. 35 Paul tells us that nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ. He lists tribulation, distress persecution, famine, nakedness, poverty, danger, sword and you can also lists the corona virus. In vs.37 we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. We are super victorious! In the following two verses we can rejoice in the fact that Christ's assurance of His love for us is active every moment of our lives. Praise God!!! We learn some powerful truths from this chapter of Romans. 1. God does not have to deliver us to prove He is faithful. 2. God uses crisis in our lives to witness to others. 3. God is glorified when we look beyond this world to the next. If we want to thirst and hunger for Jesus as the apostle Paul did. The first thing we need to do is drink in the truths of God's Word. Listen to Pastor as he preaches through the power of Christ's Spirit. Dig into the Word each day . Paul's knowledge of Christ was not just intellectual apprehension, but an experiential knowledge resulting in a personal communion with Christ. Paul did not let worldly pursuits waste his mental or emotional energy. Phil. 3:1-11 We need to ask who is this Jesus, how do I experience Him in my life? Why did He so willingly die for my sins and the sins of the world? How do I really get to know Him and have a real relationship with Him? A life of devotion to Christ is definitely not an easy life. It is costly...A life of devotion to Christ pursues His purpose....He being reproduced in us... It all begins with prayer! Heavenly Father we come before Your throne in humbleness, asking for mercy and grace in this difficult time. We hear of all the deaths and suffering across our world, and ask your peace and comfort for Your children. We know Father that not everyone trusts in You, but we know that You are a God of compassion and mercy. We know we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. We ask now, that You would graciously forgive us as a people and give us new hearts. Hearts that are trusting and following You. Help us to forsake our worldly ways and walk according to Your Spirit. Strengthen us and make us more like Jesus. We ask that You would bless our country, and give us leaders that seek Your guidance and direction. Help us in these trying times to have the "Blessed Assurance" in Jesus ,that we are indeed heirs of salvation, purchased of God, born of the Spirit, washed in His blood. In His name. Amen Carol Crouse, Evangelism Chairman

Trinity TidingsTrinity TidingsTrinity TidingsTrinity Tidings April April April April 2020202020202020

The mission of Trinity Lutheran School, in partnership with parents and the congregation, is to provide a

Christ-centered educational program which ministers to the needs of the

‘whole child’ in nurturing them to live in

service to God and man.

From the Principal’s Desk Ms. Amy Schroeder

We know the story well, the disciples were in the middle of the sea when they looked up and saw Jesus walking on the water. The book of Matthew tells us the sea was not calm, instead it was impacted by boisterous winds. The disciples had been rowing against the waves most of the night when Jesus appeared to them walking on the water. And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:28-33) Although a storm surrounded Him, Peter looked to Jesus. In the midst of life’s storms are we looking to Jesus? The surreal time we find ourselves in right now shows us the storms of life are unending. Through faith, Peter too was able to walk on water with Jesus. The only problem was that he stopped looking at Jesus, he focused on the storm around him and he began to sink. The lesson is clear: especially when life is a tumultuous storm, we are to keep our focus on Jesus. When the circumstances around us threaten to pull us

into deep waters of doubt, may God grant us courage, patience and faith.

I ask you to pray for our Trinity

Lutheran School that each child, teacher,

and family find their peace in Jesus and

His protection.

Room News Preschool Mrs. Sue Ullestad

Meeting with all parents during conference week was great! It was a chance to celebrate successes and focus together on common goals in the next several weeks. Most children have just a few letters yet to learn by sight and some children have a couple numerals to master. The 4-year-old classes can write their name correctly and copy words easily. The 3-year-old class is practicing their name and making shapes using various writing utensils.

Spring break turned out to be different than what we planned for, but it was a chance to be with family and have a different routine. Even with this new virus, Jesus calms our fears and points us to Himself and our redemption that He accomplished for us on the cross. Easter is coming! Jesus’ resurrection makes our resurrection secure. During these weeks of Lent, the children have learned the hymns: “The Lamb,” “Father Welcomes,” and “Lift High the Cross. The Bible lessons have covered Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, The Last Supper, His death on the cross for our sins, and His victory over our enemies (sin, death, and Satan) as He rose on Easter morning. Jesus didn’t come to be an example of how we should live, but He came full of mercy and to become our sacrificial lamb. Mark 10:45 reads, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Our theme in March was “On the Move.” We explored many different ways of movement through song, yoga, beanbag rhythm, and exercises. Our next theme is “City and Country.” Zach Steir, Ericson Public Librarian, visited our class as we finished up our unit on animals. He reads stories, sang songs, and got us excited about visiting the library uptown. We hope to visit there as a class soon. The classes are learning more and more letters with their sound. The older classes have been sounding out CVC words and learning a few sight words. This can continue for the next few weeks during our online class time on the app Zoom. I start with Jesus time with prayer, Bible lesson, and song. We cover reading, math, writing, and music. I try to give the children 2 or 3 fun “assignments” to further extend their learning. We end with a prayer. It is so great to see and hear each other in this way until we can see each other again. The Lord is ever with us!

Kindergarten Mrs. Theresa Hart

Children that will be kindergarten students this coming fall had the opportunity to experience kindergarten round-up on February 18. The future kindergarten students enjoyed listening to God’s Word in religion with Mrs. Sprengeler, sang choir songs, played fun PE games, listened to a story during story time and counted in math. It was a fun-filled, Christ-centered educational day at Trinity Lutheran School!

In religion, our kindergarten class listened to God’s Word and learned from one of the many parables. This parable was of the Hidden Treasure and the pearl. “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” (Matthew 13: 44-46) Jesus paid for our sins by dying on the cross so that we will live with Jesus one day in heaven. “For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2: 8-9) Let us share the good news with others about what Jesus has done for us!

In reading, we worked on our reading books and pointed out and circled our sight words. We also have been practicing our phonic sounds by sounding out words. The children have played different rhyming games, one being played on our classroom carpet. They had to come up with two words that rhyme orally and then they could roll the dice. They also listened to three words and had to pick out the two words that rhymed. We have used our classroom ABC carpet for many fun phonics games!

In handwriting, we have finished learning all of our uppercase and lowercase letters. They have started writing their own

Page 9: T.L.C. LINK-LETTER April 2020 TRINTIY SERVICES ... News...(Sayre) Shaeffer was baptized. April 06 – Fred Grabau passed away at the age of 67. 1970 – 50 years ago April 19 – Troy

9

stories to make a book to take home by the end of the year.

In math, we have been working on adding and subtracting. Additionally, they have done a great job telling time by the hour by using wooden clocks and also writing the time down. We have been studying the value of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half-dollars, and dollars. They always enjoy counting to one hundred by two’s, five’s, and ten’s.

In science, we finished learning about the solar system and the planets and began learning about our amazing body that God created. In social studies, we visited Chile, in our around the world unit with the afternoon preschool class.

In art, the children make thumbprint shamrocks and also square, circle, and rectangle shamrocks. They also weaved paper to make a quilt with a cross over the front of it.

In choir, the children did a great job practicing the songs for the school play, “Dorothy in Wonderland. The Musical.” They have also been learning new songs about Jesus. It is always a joy to listen to them sing in choir.

With our big buddies, the children began making prayer pillows. They traced Luther’s Evening Prayer on a piece of fabric. Now the children just need to stuff the pillows and they will be ready to go home.

It was nice meeting with each of the families to talk about each child at the conferences. I enjoyed sharing their child’s successes throughout the year. Wishing you a blessed spring break filled with the love of Jesus.

1st & 2nd Grades Mrs. Cathy Sprengeler We have been healed of a sickness that kept us in darkness, the darkness of our sin. In

fact, Jesus loves us so much that He died on the cross for us. Still that wasn’t the end. Like Lazarus rose only to life on earth: Jesus rose to give us life with Him in heaven. We too cry out to Jesus to “have mercy on us.” There are times throughout our lives when we may need physical healing. Daily, we need spiritual healing because of the sickness of sin. On our own, we cannot clean sin from our hearts. But Jesus can and does! He heals us of all our sins, renews us, and restores us so we can live for Him and follow Him. Jesus does all this, not because we deserve it, but because He loves us! That’s His wonderful grace and mercy. We learned about the beginnings and growth of our country. We were introduced to Native American groups, early settlers who came from Europe and explorers who led the way for the westward expansion. More specifically, we learned about the first European settlements in North America and the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday and Independence Day. We discussed the causes and effects of the American Revolution. We learned how people were taken from Africa and forced into slavery in North America. We heard how people such as Harriet Tubman and Fredrick Douglass, who had been slaves themselves and helped other slaves escape to freedom. Created and equal in God’s eye we were freed by Jesus Christ, our Savior. In math we have been working hard on learning our tens and ones with regrouping. We have fun using base ten blocks to help us visualize tens and ones. Second graders are practicing mastering addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. In Phonics 1st graders are learning to recognize consonant clusters. Trucks slide crazily across the slippery street. Second graders are working to understand and classify synonyms and antonyms. Cold cats use hot paws to open and close doors to hallways and corridors. By using food coloring, coffee filters, and water in art we created tie-dyed color wheels. It was both exciting and surprising to reveal each color wheel’s amazing creation. We also used small torn pieces of colored paper to make colorful mosaic Lenten crosses.

Jesus’ death and resurrection has transformed our lives. “For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 3rd & 4th Grades Mrs. Alison Yox This is an interesting time for our world and is a learning experience for everyone involved. After spring break, Trinity moved to online class, which is an interesting experience for an elementary school teacher. Right now, the third and fourth graders have started a new Reading BINGO challenge. Their first BINGO is due by the end of the quarter. This has been a fun way to get the students to find books and genres they like to read, because they get a taste of each genre and can find something they like to read. Most of the class enjoys the Dogman graphic novel series. Our class is also using an online library called Epic! and the class as a whole has finished 696 books since January! Reading is an easy thing to do at home and is nice to do remotely. For grammar and math, I had to print off all of the worksheets they would need for the next three weeks. This is an interesting way to teach, because the students are basically learning the material on their own and then I am available for questions on our google classroom. It's kind of like a flipped classroom, but we can't meet in person to talk about what they learned. I have also started using a resource called "Legends of Learning" that helps students learn science and math concepts by playing games. I think the students will have fun and learn from that. We are also starting to use BrainPop, which has information on all of the core subjects. These will be great resources for us in this time of remote learning. I hope everyone is still learning what they need to in order to stay on track, but I also hope they are getting to spend quality time with their families and enjoy being with them at this time. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, our class will do a devotion together on the Zoom app and we will do some sort of fun activity. Our first

activity is a class trivia Kahoot, which I think will be really fun! I miss seeing all my students and I pray that this time is a relaxing time for them and a time where they can get closer to their families and to their Creator. Blessings to everyone in this odd time. 5th – 8th Grades Mrs. Kris Seeman Mrs. Mona Satre Miss Amy Schroeder Mr. Rick Gustafson

5-8 Grade Crusader Scoop Prior to spring break, students were provided pictures and the opportunity to write about “The Best” or “The Strangest” spring break ever. Little did we know when we embarked on this fun creative writing experience that CoVid19 would become a pandemic, the stock market would take a dive, we would be embarking on distance learning and limited person to person contact--quite possibly the strangest spring break for all of us. “Do not be afraid.” (Mathew 1:20) We will turn our fear of “not being able to handle” the unknown, sickness, death, unemployment, and extended time with family to an opportunity to grow closer to Christ. Jesus, with your help, I can knock my fears down to size and deal with them! During this time we will stay connected through technology but most importantly through Faith. “He will fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.” (Job 8:21) Sharing laughter is a place to start! This is it… I'm a goner. I'm writing this so my beloved family might one day know what has happened to their wonderful Ember. Let me recap: I was just walking around the docks eating my ice cream, minding my own

business. I walked toward the edge of the docks and looked out at the ocean, totally lost in my thoughts. A strange noise reached my ears and I looked around for it's source. It was coming from the woods. The sound was a low beat that boomed as if it were some average everyday pop music. As I stared at the edge of the woods I saw what looked like a tail to a small mammal. I had nothing better to do so I walked to the border of the woods and looked into the trees. At first I saw nothing at all, but a pretty big mushroom caught my eye. It wasn't necessarily the mushroom that was out of the ordinary, but the tiny sign tied to the mushroom. It said, Party west. Of course I followed it. And what did I find to my surprise? Gathered around a giant pot was about fifty squirrels. And when they heard me they all turned in unison we stared at each other for a few seconds and then they attacked. Remember that scene in Charlie and the Chocolate factory when that really rude girl was attacked by those squirrels. Just imagine that but with waaaaay more animals. That is what happened. So here I am. Stuck in a hollow with only this pencil and journal. No idea what's going to happen to me. This is the worst spring break ever. Send help. . . The craziest thing happened. After that last entry the animals came back for me. They started to lead me away, I thought they were going to set me free at first, but that was definitely not the case. They dragged me back to their little gathering and made me get into that giant pot. The pot had a whole bunch of water and acorns inside it, that was so gross. I had no idea where this was going… and then I realized I was in a pot with water and acorns. The squirrels were going to try to COOK me.

At that moment I had another stunning realization. I wasn't bound up and these were a bunch of squirrels. They couldn’t keep me, a twelve year old human being, hostage no matter how many animals there were. I dashed out of that pot as fast as I could. I made it back home safely. Never to see those squirrels

again. And that's on my crazy spring break.
