Reasons to know your philosophy of education:

• To understand why you make the decisions that you do related to your teaching

• To ensure that you match yourself to an institution whose philosophy is similar to yours

9

Reasons to know your primary learning style:

By default, you will design curriculum based upon your primary learning style. To know your preference and to understand various learning styles, you will ensure that you create various teaching and learning strategies, learning engagement tasks, and assessment methods that address the various learning styles of your students offering all the opportunity to use their cognitive strengths to academically succeed.

• Very low scores could mean a low interest in teaching

10

FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY:Interpret the data from your Index of Learning Styles Questionnaire. The

instructions detail how to interpret the data.

The Value of a Teacher

“This is the value of the teacher, who looks at a face and says there’s something behind that and…

I want to reach that person,I want to influence that person,

I want to encourage that person, I want to enrich,

I want to call out that person who is behind that face,

behind that color, behind that language, behind that tradition, behind that culture.

I believe you can do it. I know what was done for me.”

- Maya Angelou

4. Assessment methods to ensure mastery of content?

13
