If you have a sump pump you may want to consider a back-up for when you lose power or for when your main

pump fails. It’s good peace of mind to know that you’re covered in case of an emergency.

Your home has a primary sump pump which is powered by electricity. This is the pump that will be working during

normal rainy conditions when you have power supplied to the house. The best backup option to your primary

electric sump pump is a water powered sump pump which is used as an emergency pump when there is a power

outage or pump failure. A water powered sump pump should only be used as a backup. Water powered sump

pumps are configured to turn on automatically, only in the event of a primary sump pump failure. Years of

professional experience with primary and backup basement sump pump systems leads to the following conclusion:

for the vast majority of homes, water powered sump pumps are the best backup solution.

There are many differences between the primary electric and water powered sump pumps. Electric and water

powered sump pumps both evacuate water from the sump but the electric pump is more efficient, cost effective and

    environmentally preferable.

A water powered sump pump should only be used as a backup. If this type of pump is used as the only system and

it fails it could cost you hundreds and even thousands of dollars in additional charges on your water bill. A water

powered sump pump is a unique back-up pump that is powered by your houses city water supply. For this reason it

will not work off of a well unit during power outages.

Sump pump alarm systems can add an additional layer of confidence to your sump system.

Audio alarms – these devices sound an audible alarm if you sump fails, much like a smoke detector.

Audio/flasher alarms – these devices will have a flashing light and an audible alarm

Cellular alarms – will send a text message to you cellular device

Sump exercisers – will automatically test your pump on a regular basis (usually once a week)

Battery operated back-up sump pumps. – These devices will operate even if your house loses power for

several days without the need to utilize the public water supply. Remember you have to insure that the

    batteries are charged.

So, as you can see there are many options to choose to from to ensure you have a dry basement.

    Watermain Project

Tittabawassee Township is going to develop 1.55 miles of water main on Old Midland Road from M-47 to the corner

of Buck and Rogers Road. The new water line will also go into the Township Park, eliminating the current well and

hooking it to the city water system. This project was approved at the Township Board Meeting, June 9, 2015. The

drawing and bid packages are being developed. Currently the project is slated to begin in September 2015 with an

estimated completion date of November 2015. During this time, the entrance to the Tittabawassee Township Park

will be reconstructed to have a more efficient boulevard style entrance consisting of a separate exit and entrance. The

Park will remain open during construction.

  • Mosquito Control

Saginaw County Mosquito Control is once again offering 2 free individual sprays per year for

residents. If you are having a party this summer and would like your yard sprayed for mosquitos,

give them a call at 755-5751.

Old tires are a great place for mosquitoes to breed. Mosquito Control offers collection schedules for

disposing of tires for Saginaw County Residents. They are collected and taken to Environmental Rubber

Recycling in Flint, Michigan to be shredded. The shredded material is then used in many products. Chips of

shredded tire rubber are used as fill in engineering projects. More finely chipped and screened tire rubber is

used in playground and landscaping mulch. Crumb rubber is used to make better asphalt, while rubber

mixed with urethane is used to make athletic track surfaces and a variety of molded products. For more

information contact Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission at 755-5751.

Thank you to George and Lil Corbat, Richard Kaczor, Al Rueger and Paul Vinson for

placing flags on veteran graves in Pine Grove and West Side cemeteries for Memorial

    Day 2015.

    Historical Society

    The Roesers of Tittabawassee Township

Robert Roeser, D.D.S. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 09, 2015 at

the age of 93. The Roeser family was one of the early pioneers of Freeland,

Tittabawassee Township. William Roeser, great grandfather of Robert Roeser,

migrated from Germany in 1849 with his brothers Otto and Gustav. They

landed in Baltimore but came directly to Tittabawassee Township for the

available government land and rich timber. William took up land in Section

15, married Theresa von Vasold on February 14, 1851. William Roeser sold groceries from his home but

then built a store on Main Street. The store was located on the same property where the Memorial Park

Building is located today. Supplies were brought up the river on the "Belle Seymour" boat, and then later

were brought in by the Pere Marquette railroad. When the post office at Jay was moved to Freeland,

William Roeser was appointed Postmaster. Later he was a Clerk, Supervisor, and Justice of the Peace. When

the Roeser store was destroyed by fire in 1890, he moved his family to Saginaw and sold farm equipment.

Dr. Robert Roeser was born on March 8, 1922 to Edwin and Camille (Herrig) Roeser. Bob and his wife

Dolores were one of the early members and very active in the Tittabawassee Township Historical Society.

The Historical group documented information from head stones in the Freeland area cemeteries with

beautiful hand drawings by Dr. Roeser. His magic tricks at the Historical Society meetings and the Freeland

Children's Christmas parties were always welcome. No meeting was ever complete until Bob Roeser made

    his Origami water balloons.

Fences, Shed and Pool Information Michael L. Faerber

Pursuant to the Zoning codes, fences, sheds, in

ground pools and other related items require a

zoning permit. If you wish to install a fence, shed or

other structural item which may include pergolas,

gazebos or other free standing structures a zoning

permit must be obtained from the Township Office.

Sheds under 200 square feet may be placed at the rear

property line and eight (8) feet from the side property

line. There are other dimensional requirements for

other accessory structures. Fences need to be

inspected for proper location and each lot may be

different. Our office will visit the site to confirm the

proper location of fences and sheds. In ground and

above ground swimming pools require a building

permit. The zoning permit fee is $25.00.

Structures larger than 200 square feet may require a

building permit and this may be obtained from the

office as well. This change is a result of the State of

    Michigan Residential Building requirements. The

Building Inspector handles those larger structures. If

this office can be of assistance feel free to contact us

    at 695.9512.

Additionally please be sure you have a visible house

or building number as requested by the County of

Saginaw, Township Police and Fire. Contact this

office if you wish more information. Thanks for your

help in making this a great place to live, work and

    play.
