Title: Cover 2 Offensive Adjustments Training Estimated Time: 2.5 hoursPurpose: Introduction to the Smash, Flood and Vertical concepts that beat cover 2
Performance Problem: The quarterback role in football is crucial. The timeconstraints on his decision making is about 15 seconds before a play and 4 secondsduring a play. On the first day of camp these quarterbacks are challenged to recognizecover 2 and make the proper offensive check. Then anticipate where the defender will beon the play and complete passes in the open areas of the zone coverage. All summer thequarterbacks have completed these tasks 80% of the time. The quarterbacks must raisetheir level of execution of these task 95% in order for the team to win.
Proposed Instructional Solution: Instruct the quarterbacks on how to identify cover2 and make the proper adjustments in a classroom setting, interactive setting on the field, incompetition, then review then evaluate the effectiveness of the players performance.
Overview: The focal point of this training is teaching a quarterback how to identify cover 2and check the correct route concepts to beat it. This instruction is focused on the sport offootball. The quarterback position is the person who control the distribution of the football.The coverage refers to what the defensive scheme the opposing team is utilizing the limit theadvancement of the offense. The storyboard presents the flow of activities for a 120-minutesof the first day of training camp. The process of teaching the quarterback to identify and adjustto what he sees.
Expected outcomes: The quarterbacks will be able to identify cover 2 and make thecorrect adjustments 95% of the time to advance the offense and out scheme the defensive call.

Context: This is an introductory training session on the 1st day of fall camp forquarterbacks. This formal training details methods for reading defensive coverage,also making meticulous adjustments to beat the specific coverage. Smash, Floodand the Vertical concepts are all designed to attack the weakness of the zone.

about the video clips.

Notes: • Most experienced quarterback is up first providing an example
for the rest of the group of 5. The offense will first be provided with a look of what cover 2 looks like by scout players. This period is a no helmet period with a lot of talking and personal instruction. This provides learners with a different method to learn information.
• Quarterbacks begin throwing the ball around to the quarterbacks.

proper checks.• Determine the reason why a certain route should become open

Course title: Cover 2 Offensive Adjustments Training Activity Title: Skelly Estimated Time: 25 minutes
Instructional Activity Description:• Discuss procedures of quarterback that is up to throw
the ball (Quarterback must complete the pass)• Coach the best method to beating the coverage.• Coach led Q/A while watching the quarterback who
is in practice.
Activity Deliverables/Outcomes: • Learners respond to coaching• Learners are challenged to recall information • Learners respond to situation football

Notes: • This period is competition without the use of offensive and
defensive lineman. It allows quarterbacks to recognize coverage at a much faster pace than a walk-thru, however without the presence of the defensive line. The drill is designed for the quarterbacks to recognize coverage and go through the passing progression at a fast rate.
Key learning outcomes:• Identify the causes for check cover 2.• Compare and contrast the performance of the quarterbacks in
the game.
Key Content Points:• Quarterback progression from read 1, 2 and 3.• Smash, Verts and Flood concept execution
Course title: Cover 2 Offensive Adjustments Training Activity Title: Live Practice Estimated Time: 35 minutes
Instructional Activity Description:• Discuss procedures of quarterback that is up to throw
the ball• Quarterback must complete the pass• Coach led Q/A while watching the quarterback who
is in practice.
Activity Deliverables/Outcomes: • Learners respond to coaching• Learners are challenged to recall information • Learners respond to situation football
Resources Required:
• Football, cleats, helmet, team attire
Notes: • This period involves competition between the entire offensive
and defensive unit. It will be harder to recognize the defensive coverage because there is more bodies on the field. The quarterback must also remain poised when facing pressure from the defensive line. All 5 quarterbacks split up the reps and have the chance to compete.
Key learning outcomes:• Learners will be able to make the proper checks and go through
the proper procedure during this team period 95% of the time.

Notes: • After practice has conceded the quarterbacks meet up with the
coach and our given the opportunity to watch the skelly period on film. This meeting takes place in the QB meeting room. The learners compare what they have seen during certain plays from the practice on video clips and pose questions.

through self-critique.

and questions about the players performance. The coach re-introduces important details about what to look for from the defense. Then, compares uses feedback from the self-assessment and peer review to clarify any disconnect. He watches the Team period from practice for assessment.
