This trend’s quiet nature is its strength - calming and discreet, it is a minimalist style that values simplicity over embellishment. Restrained, reduced pastels with chalky, matte finishes deliver a muted and intimate palette grounded by deep pinked-red and black accents.

Materials and textures are hushed but heroic; blonde wood tones dominate – maple, white oak and birch. Oversized concrete tiles introduce soft grays, whilst Carrara and Calacatta Oro marble, slate and travertine provide tranquil foundations for room schemes. Brushstroke washes and diluted patterns in cloudy pastels produce serene tiles. Brushed yarns, curly wools and furs create cozy rugs.

This trend has an enchanting mood. It seeks out the beauty in the rawness of Nature and explores how exposure to the elements and the passage of time affect materials.

Materials and textures are distressed and aged; surfaces appear to be peeling, flaking and frayed. Faded, worn away patterns and scraped-back surfaces reveal layers of the past. Metal tiles appear tarnished or oxidized, and wood flooring presents charred, burnished and smoked effects, as well as cracks, scuffs and scratches. Heathered carpet yarns, wool rugs and marbles reference the textures and patterns of rugged landscapes.

2016 is an Olympic year which sees the first South American city hosting the Games. So we look to Rio in search of color and style. A joyful palette of intense, saturated hues greets us along with a spontaneous, dynamic approach to design.

Materials have a repurposed appearance; reclaimed wood boasts remnants of scraped paint colors and stains. Parquet is disrupted by colourful ceramic tiles. Mix & mismatched patterns produce a busy collaged aesthetic. Cork becomes contemporary when integrated with felt, wood or glossy tiles. Gritty concrete flooring is softened by overlapping Ikat rugs. Unexpected color interventions deliver vibrancy.
