No 22 ELIZABETH DRIVE, SUNBURY 3429 PHONE 9740 8666 www.sunburywestps.vic.edu.au 3rd August 2015 Dear Parents, Staff and Children, BYO iPAD Program Last week the parents of children in Years 4 and 5 received information about our Bring Your Own iPAD program that we are launching in the 5 /6 area next year. We have had a very positive response in relation to parents attending and look forward to discussing this initiative with families in greater detail. School Council We welcome Melissa Baba to School Council as our newest parent representative. Melissa is a co- opted member, filling a casual vacancy for the next 18 months. We look forward to having Melissa on board this vibrant and active school community group. Feed the Family We are almost ready to re-launch our Community Engagement Program ‘Feed the Family”. Based on the concept of the Hume ‘Mama Bake’ kitchen, parents will have the opportunity to join a cooking group that prepares big batch meals for the family. Each group will be made up of about 4—6 par- ents, who will combine to make three or four economical family meals for a minimal cost per session. It’s a great way to get new recipe ideas, get ahead on the weekly meal planning and have fun with other parents. If you think you might be interested in joining this club, please come along to a meeng in the com- munity room on Monday 10th August at 9.30am. As this coincides with the FOSW meeng it will be part of the agenda. (Straight aſter assembly) Earn and Learn Thankyou to the many families who have been supporting the Woolworths Earn and Learn Program. Last time we participated in the program we raised 17,800 stickers and we were eligible for a large number of school resources, so please keep shopping if you are able to do so. Concert We are looking forward to the first of our cross-age concerts next Wednesday evening. Mrs Lardner has been busily preparing for this integrated Arts event with 1 /2M and 3 /4T over a number of weeks with children performing and making and creating their own props and scenery. See inside for more details. Professional Learning At Sunbury West, our staff are committed to ongoing professional learning. Since returning this term, most staff have completed an 8 hour Level 2 First Aid course across the past two Thursday evenings. We also have about 6 staff who have commenced a 20 hour online training program in the evenings in relation to Dyslexia, to enhance our capacity to cater for the needs of children with this very com- mon learning difficulty. Parent Opinion Surveys Thankyou to the many families that have returned the parent opinion survey this year. Although we don’t receive the data from the department until later in the year, it is an important part of our feed- back processes that help us to determine future directions. Work Safe Last Thursday we had a number of contractors in the school including plumbers, electricians and alarm installation technicians. We received a surprise visit from Work Safe during this time and we are pleased to inform our community that the representative was satisfied with the management procedures our school has in place. School Council President’s Report July 2015

Welcome back everyone. We have already started Term III, as this year races on past us.

I would like to formally welcome back Mr Tim Field after his extended leave and also welcome Lauren Skinner who

has joined us in the Prep area until the end of this year.

I would also like to formally congratulate Claire Duckworth who has been appointed to the role of Acting Assistant

Principal. I am sure that Claire will be a great resource for the School Leadership, Teaching and Administration

teams.

At our first assembly this term Inga Wilson accepted a cheque for $500.00 on behalf of Sunbury West Primary

school from Caltex, Sunbury. The donation is greatly appreciated and we look forward to an ongoing relationship

with Caltex, through a rewards scheme for families. In return, the school will receive 5% of in store purchases which

will be paid in term 4.

The FOSW team is gearing up for a busy term with the distribution of the Cadbury Chocolate Boxes, which are due

back this Friday. The team is also hosting the Annual Father’s Day Stall and Raffle for the children. Finally, the

FOSW team will also be supporting the Book Fair which will run during Children’s Book Week this year. The children

will have the opportunity to dress as their favourite book character and there will be several prizes to be won.

The Sunbury West Primary School Play Group is up and running, with a number of new families coming into the

program. Both the children and parents, seem to be enjoying the program. I would like to thank all the families who

have kindly donated toys and art & craft supplies to the program. These donations are greatly appreciated and are

being used in the program each week.

Thank you once again to everyone that helps support Sunbury West Primary School.

Our Friends of Sunbury West team is well on the way with the organizing of the Fathers Day Stall (Thursday 3rd September). So we are asking for small donations of Chocolates, Gardening Equipment, Sporting Accessories, or anything else you think our Dads might like. These suggestions are only a guide and any new, and suitable gift is appreciated. Your donations can be dropped off at the Office.
