ORGAN BELLOWS - DECEMBER, 2013 By Senior Organist Byron B. Einspahr

This month I decided not to “preach” about anything having to do withmusic. Instead it seemed like a good time to have a musical activity –a word search involving Christmas carol titles. The titles are presentedhorizontally, vertically, or backwards. Be patient and have fun!

well; parents are sponsoring lunch in between late service and practice. Christmas Pageant will be held on 12/22 at 6pm. No events for November are scheduled at this time.  A discussion with Superintendents about doing a

Movie Night that will be held in the future as parents and kids seem interested in this. Sunday School contributes to an outside charity--we usually decide around this time who to send the

money to.  After some discussion about this and due to the recent Typhoon in the Philippines, we feel that we should send money to Lutheran World Relief as their need is great and immediate at this time.

Winter materials were ordered and should be in this week to distribute at the Sunday School Teachers’ meeting on Sunday 11/17.

Grace Unplugged was attended by a few kids from Sunday School along with myself, Dena as well as Jeannie and John Hughes.  We had a great time and the movie was excellent.

Horsepower for Kids Fall Festival was a fantastic event again that was attended by 50 people total. Sunday School would still like to participate in Stewardship Sunday?  Not sure of any progress.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES: Tom Tiedemann reported. Old Business:

Mediation started Wednesday, October 2, 2013. The mediation was recessed until further notice to allow time to adequately investigate the stucco problems. Consulting firms specializing in the forensic investigation of stucco problems are listed below and have been contacted and asked for estimates to analyze the stucco problems and make recommendations:

Advanced Engineering Donan Engineering Ivy Group Consultants Keen Klimas Consultant Group Nelson Architectural Engineers Rimkus Consulting Group U. S. Forensic Wagner - Hohns – Inglis

Some questions for the above Consultants: Who will perform the inspection and prepare the final report. What are their

qualifications? Is this individual certified to testify in deposition hearings and trials? How will the inspection be done? If stucco samples have to be taken, who will take the samples? What are their

qualifications? How will the samples be analyzed? Will the stucco contractor and/or their legal representative be invited to witness

the inspection and testing? The dimming panel problems in the Sanctuary appear to have been corrected. Caulking of the North balcony window to stop some of the bee intrusion was discussed. So far a safe,

economical method of doing this has not been found. Raymond Mills (FLORIDAWILDBEES) will call Mike King (Pinnacle Services) about scheduling the

removal of the bee hive from the North column. There may be a similar bee problem developing at the South column.

Saturday, October 12, 2013 was a work day and accomplished the following:

Page 8: TIM ZIMMERMAN AND THE KING'S Web viewa word search involving ... O Tannenbaum -- Silent Night – Star of the East -- Stille Stille Stille -- The ... The compressor in the South a/c

The no parking sign and alligator sign have been installed. Replaced burned out bulbs in Sanctuary. Installed the door for the handicapped stall in the Narthax men’s room. Caulked around the outside horn for the intrusion alarm system. Repaired the electric outlets in the office hall.

Replacement first aid kits will be ordered. Bill Kerstein did the October emergency light tests. Lee Tieman was volunteered to do the November

emergency light test. The Intermatic timers for the florescent lights in the Great Hall have failed. Intermatic does not have a

small timer that is compatible with electronic ballasts and is capable of interrupting the necessary current.

Repair of the door for the men’s restroom by the library was discussed. The door is hard to open because it is split at the top hinge.

Replacement of the top thermostat in the water heater for the kitchen has not stopped the thermal element from tripping. The bottom thermostat will be replaced and hopefully eliminate the problem.

Empire Lighting Resources is looking for solutions to the lighting problem in the Great Hall. There are approximately 183 new blisters on the roof. Photographs have been sent to Skip Dayhoff and

Pinnacle Roofing for a repair estimate. Clearwater issued a red card to the Church because the tree that was recently removed has not been

replaced. We are discussing the problem with the proper Clearwater authority. The Board extends thanks to Joanne Benner, Tim Tolle and the Kerstein family for their help this past

month. New Business:

The compressor in the South a/c unit for the balcony failed. The compressor was replaced under warranty. The labor cost was $559.50.

The flush valve in the Pastor’s bathroom was rebuilt at a cost of $22.45. The battery jump start unit failed and has been replaced. The florescent fixtures in the office hall use u-shaped florescent tubes. These tubes are expensive and

difficult to change without breaking the tube. It was decided to investigate converting these fixtures to use straight tubes.

Motion passed to accept the Board of Trustees report as presented.

BOARD OF FINANCE: Candice Mathews reported. Candice presented to the Council the Budget Worksheet for next year, which sets forth a proposed budget of $736,225 for 2014. The budget will be voted on by the members of Bethel at the Congregational Voters Meeting to be held December 8, 2013.

Motion passed to accept the Board of Finance report as presented.

OLD BUSINESS: Call Committee: There was a Call Committee meeting here on Sunday. We got 14 names from District;

we will be interviewing 4 names. NEW BUSINESS:

Jeanne sent the Council a memo regarding 3 items, which the Council discussed: We currently have two sets of white banners for the sanctuary. One is for Christmas and the other

for Easter. Neither is suitable for the Sundays when we use our third set of white paraments. We have money in account 017-00-2-06 given specifically for the purchase of another set of white banners (two). The cost is about $2,000 (probably closer to $1,500).

Our flagon and one chalice are deteriorating. The inside bottoms are pitted and need to be replaced. The cost of replating is quite high. The repair person estimates about 2/3 of the cost of replacement. Since the flagon has already been replated and repaired due to a dent, it probably cannot be replated.

Page 9: TIM ZIMMERMAN AND THE KING'S Web viewa word search involving ... O Tannenbaum -- Silent Night – Star of the East -- Stille Stille Stille -- The ... The compressor in the South a/c

The cost of a new silver-plated flagon is $1,360. The cost of the silver plated, gold lined chalice is $515. The inside of the flagon is not noticeable so silver plate on the inside is adequate. Our ciboria/chalice is gold-lined and that is visible. We would most likely want it to match the other one.

Wee Care Preschool has held their Christmas program here for the past several years. Last year was the first time we charged them to use our facilities. They paid $200 to use the Great Hall. Harold Walker provides our custodial services. He has asked for $200 to set up for 200 attendees, reset the Great Hall for Sunday morning Adult Bible Class, and clean up. Also, someone from Bethel should be on premises while the event is being held.

Motion was made and approved to spend up to $2,000 for new white banners for the sanctuary. Decision by Council was postponed regarding second and third items.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m. with The Lord’s Prayer.

Respectfully submitted,Karen Mohan, Secretary
