TheStrategysupportsaholis>capproachtocommissioninghighqualityartwork,bringingtogether300newmarkethomesdevelopmentofcontemporarydesignwithastrategiccountrypark.Itdefinesfourcommissionsthatinvitear>stsandar>stcollec>vestoshapeandtransformthewayspeopleinteractin,respondtoandlearnaboutConningbrookLakes.

Myworkdrawsitsinspira>onfromthesurroundinglandscape,andwherepossibleusesmaterialsthathaveadirectsignificancewithitsloca>on.Ratherthanproducepurelyfurnitureorsculpture,Iaminterestedincrea>nginspira>onalenvironmentsthathelppeopletorelax,playandenjoytheirenvironment.Therefore,mysculptureaimstoencourageasenseofinterac>on:eitherbysi_ngwithin,clamberingover,orwanderingthroughandinside.

Iliketospend>mepriortoanymakingperiodonsite:sketching,takingphotographs,researchingandproducingdetailedplans.InmystudioIoZenworkwithateamofskilledassistants.IalsoregularlyemploylocalcraZsmensuchasstonemasons,blacksmithsandsawmillsthathaveaconnec>onwiththeareaI’mworkingin.InthiswayIcantapintothevernacularandlocalstyle.

Allpubliccommissionedartworkisdesignedtobemadefromrobustmaterials,forheavyusageandlowmaintenanceduringitslife.Ishowsomeexamplesofmyworkinnature,worksuchastheForestWaveShelterwhichuseslessdurablematerials.However,mytechniqueofusingasteelframetocreatetheorganicformsmeansthestructureisverystronganddurableandcanbecladwithalmostanymaterial.
