FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Hello People of Emory: this is my first newsletter article as your pastor and
partner in ministry so I thought I would begin by sharing the Gospel reading that is
the foundation of who I am and whose I am.
Matthew 25:31-45 – I take seriously the call on my life that is listed out in
verses 35 and 36: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty
and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I
needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in
prison and you came to visit me.”
This is the list of what we are called to do in Jesus’ name and the reality of not
doing what we are called to do is also laid out for us. Vs 40 is clear. “Truly I tell you,
whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did
for me” and then vs 45 gives us the ultimate statement. “Truly I tell you, whatever
you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.”
I have been in professional ministry for nearly thirty years and Jesus’ words
have guided me throughout that time. You will hear my beliefs echoed in sermons
and conversations. Hopefully you will be able to see them at work in my life and in
my ministry. And ultimately, I pray many of you have or will recognize your own call
by God in these words as well.
I began by saying we were partners in ministry. From what I have seen so far,
Emory has an awesome ministry happening in many ways. As I learn more, please
feel free to speak to me of your hopes, dreams, challenges and prayers. I value our
future conversations.
Summertime is a slower pace in the church, but whenever you are not out of
town, I hope you will make worship your priority. As we praise God we gather
strength for the rest of the week. As we worship we affirm that Christ is the center
of our lives. And as we come together in church, we dedicate ourselves once again to
follow the one who saved us all. To God be the glory!
Blessings, Rev. Peggy

The Church Picnic will be held in the pavilion after church on
September 10, 2017. Bring your own meat, drinks and dish to
share. Paper products will be provided. We are hoping that
September will not be as hot as July.
Loaves and Fishes We are scheduled to prepare and serve lunch at the
Church of the Brethren beginning at 10:00am on Saturday,
September 16, 2017. Volunteers are needed to help prepare
and serve the meal. Lunch is served at 12:00pm and we are
usually finished around 1:00pm. We appreciate any
monetary donations to purchase food items. Please see Dale or Evan if you are
interested in helping.
With A lot of Discussion some of the women have decided to do the bazaar at
Sandymount U.M. Church. It is in November. We are looking for ideas and any
input. We only rented one table; would like to keep the connection with their
church. This is an outreach to the community and a fellowship for our own
church. If you have any ideas or would like to help contact Connie or Donna.
New Life for Girls will be having their Anniversary Luncheon scheduled for
Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 1-3pm. Everyone from Emory and their
friends and neighbors are invited. Becky Pashal from Lifepoint Church will be
their guest speaker. Tickets are $20/person. Call 410-848-1360 to order
tickets or if you any questions. (see entire letter outside of Linda’s office).
Many thanks to the women of Emory for a wonderful Father’s Day Breakfast. Food was delicious. Thank you, Men of Emory
Thank YOU, Emory! (from Pastor Taysie) Many thanks to all of Emory! Thanks for being just who you are, a caring loving and kind church. A healing place! I have so appreciated working with you all, and feel like we have accomplished much together. I can look back over my years there and think of many projects that we all worked on, some spiritual, and some physical. I will miss seeing the stained glass window refurbishment, but someday I will come back there and see how those beautiful green Emory windows glow even more. And how each of you glow with the love of Christ even more, too. Dear Emory of Upperco, most of all, I appreciate how you all just let me be me. And a special thanks to all the Emory leaders who have done such a wonderful job fulfilling your positions. Emory is so blessed with strong and wise leaders! And a special thanks also for that wonderful send-off! That was just right. I wish I could personally thank whoever it was who gave me that beautiful “This is the Day the Lord Has Made” coffee mug, and the journaling book! But many of you will not be surprised to find out that somehow I separated those items from the cards that come with them, so I don’t know who gave me what. LOL!) Praying blessings and joy for each and every one of you. Know that you have touched my heart greatly. Pastor Taysie Thank you for your NESAP Challenge Gift of $500. Your gift will put food on a table, help a senior receive medical care, or provide a student with school supplies. Your kindness will keep the lights on and a roof overhead, and because of you, help will grow. Thank you, Lynn Sheavly. (see entire letter on bulletin board outside of Linda’s office)
Project Linus – During the months of July and August
we will be meeting the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the
month in Emory Hall. Starting on September 11, 2017
we will go back to every Monday. Enjoy your
Summer.
There will be no Project Linus on July 3rd, but will resume on July 15th. Below
is another letter of gratitude:
We just wanted to take the time to say thank you so much for the
wonderful blanket you made.
Your blanket made a child smile in the Emergency Room,
You have warmed the hearts of Northwest Hospital.
AN EMORY OUTREACH
Homeless shelters have a great need for socks for men, women and children.
Because the people have to leave the shelter every morning, they do a lot of
walking around all day long. Therefore, they wear out their socks very quickly.
There is now a basket in back of the church for us to donate socks to homeless
shelters. In your shopping travels, if you would pick up a pack of socks it
would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Connie Hamm
