Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 12: Thirty-two cueists will compete in the first round of the knock-out stage from tomorrow during the ongo- ing 1st J&K State Open Six Red Ball Tournament, being organ- ized by Jammu and Kashmir Billiards and Snooker Association (JKBSA), at Billiards Hall, here. The cueists, who will com- pete in the first round of knock- out stage are Abhishek Pathania, Vidit Gawri, Ishuk Chowdhary, Adnan Lone, Jaideep Manocha, Vishal Abrol, Nikhil Kapahi, Abid Bhutt, Younis Kuchey, Mudasir Ashiq, Stabdan, Ishan Chowdhary, Nitin Sharma, Abhishek Goswami, Ankit Gupta, Vipan Malhi, Rohit Sharma, Maqudar Sawhney, Satypreet, Furkan Wani, Avish Sharma, Sahil Arora, Arjun Singh, Akshay Kumar, Rizwan, Sourav Dogra, Aseem Ghai, Aman Chowdhary, Rahil Bhatt, Abhi Gupta and Umar. Earlier in the first league match on the day-6 of the tour- nament, Sourav Dogra defeated Mousim Mir by straight 3-0 frames with the score of 36-03, 54-01 and 39-35, whereas in the second match, Rizwan crushed Samarth Amla by 3-1. Rizwan won the first frame by 36-03 and also registered win in the second frame by 31-05. Reeling under extreme pressure of 2-0 frames, Samath bounced back in the game and won the third frame by 30-13, but lost the fourth frame to Rizwan by 34-14. In the third match, Akshay Kumar beat Kanav Nayyar by 3- 2. Kanav made a good start and won the first two frames by 44- 12 and 30-3 respectively, but passionate Akshay routed him out by winning the next three frames by 46-15, 42-29 and 41- 13. Aseem Ghai registered win over Maskeerat Singh by straight 3-0 frames in the fourth match with the score of 30-12, 38-16 and 39-17, whereas in the fifth game, Rahil Bhat beat Ankush Sharma by 3-0 and the score was 50-18, 35-20 and 31- 01. In the sixth match, Omar got walkover against Varun, where- as in the seventh match, Abhi Gupta got walkover against Jaswinder. Aman Choudhary beat Sarath in the eighth match by straight 3-0 frames with the score of 48-11, 28-16 and 44-10, whereas in the ninth match, Aseem Ghai registered win over Nitish Sharma by 3-0 and the score was 42-02, 45-12 and 34- 22. The matches were being held under strict supervision of the JKBSA members and played with the rules and regulations of Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI). Rakesh Sharma acted as marker of the tournament. According to JKBSA spokesperson, last date of entries for Junior and Sub Junior Snooker matches will close on October 14 at 5 pm. AGARTALA, Oct 12: Poor condition of roads in Tripura has prompted India's lone Olympian Dipa Karmakar to return her BMW car presented by Hyderabad District Badminton Association. Though Dipa did not want to disclose the decision in public, her father Dulal Karmakar stated that the pre- mier BMW car would not be useful in Tripura because of bad road condition and inade- quate maintenance scope in Northeast. "There is no BMW service centre in Tripura. If the car develops any technical snag, how would we manage the repairing? There are no roads in Agartala and Tripura to ply such luxury car. Better to return before it gets dam- aged," Karmakar said. He also said Dipa's Coach Bisheshwar Nandi in consulta- tion with Dipa had discussed these matters with V Chamundeshwarnath of Hyderabad Badminton Association a week ago and he agreed to deposit the money equal to a BMW car cost to her bank account. "Dipa is shy to discuss the matter in public and made it clear that she would be happy whatever amount they give in return of the car," Karmakar said adding that the issue was decided collectively by her coach, parents and other fam- ily members. Ashwin, who was named man of the series after he fin- ished with 27 wickets in a 3-0 sweep by India, now has 220 wickets, the most by any bowler after 39 Tests. Ranked third before the final Test in Indore, Ashwin, who also holds the top position in rank- ings for all-rounders, has leapfrogged pace bowlers James Anderson and Dale Steyn to attain a career-best rating of 900 points. Ashwin, who finished the 2015 year-end rankings as the number-one bowler and was also at the top briefly in July this year, has joined a select band to have touched a rating of 900 points since 2000, the others being Muttiah Muralitharan, Glenn McGrath, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn and Shaun Pollock. In the rankings for Test bats- men, India's middle-order bats- man Ajinkya Rahane has attained a career-best sixth rank with scores of 188 and 23 not out. Rahane, whose previous best was eighth in August this year, has gained five slots after start- ing the match at 11th position. Prolific scorer in the New Zealand series, Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli also moved up the rankings. Pujara's knocks of 41 and 101 not out have helped him move up one place to 14th while Kohli's scores of 211 and 17 at Indore helped him move up four places to 16th position. For New Zealand, opener Martin Guptill has moved up 10 places to 58th with knocks of 72 and 29 while Jimmy Neesham has moved up 12 slots to 70th position. He reiterated that the Government is committed to promote sports activities in every nook and cor- ner of the State. This was stated by the Minister at a wrestling competi- tion organised by R. S. Pura Dangal Committee. Wrestlers from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and other States participated in the championship. Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Gagan Bhagat, ex-Minister R S Chib, ex-Member Parliament Trilok Singh Bajwa, Chief Conservator of Forests Roshan Jaggi besides a large number of wrestling lovers and locals were present on the occasion. Choudhary Lal Singh said that sports are imperative for overall personality development of youth as it help in inculcating discipline among them. He said that the Government is endeav- oring to create adequate sports infrastructure to provide youth an opportunity to excel in their field. School Olympics from today Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 12: The open- ing ceremony of School Olympics 2016 being organized by District Administration Jammu in collaboration with Department of Youth Services & Sports will be held at MA Stadium at 3 pm tomorrow. All the participating schools will attend march past at MA Stadium which will be followed by the two opening matches of Volleyball in the boys and girls categories. The seven day long sports festival will include Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Badminton, Table Tennis and Athletics as the events. The closing ceremony will be held at BSF Camp, Paloura on October 21. Around 4100 children from 125 Government and private schools are participating in the School Olympics. Goalkeeper Vikas Dahiya, who was stand-by goalkeeper for PR Sreejesh at the Rio Olympics, will also feature in the team along with Suraj Karkera as the second goalkeep- er. For Australia, the defensive issues remained the biggest problem so far into the extrava- ganza. And that changed on Wednesday with Jasvir Singh doing the job with 11 tackle points to his name. On the other side of the court, Kuldeep Singh did the job with the attack and picked up a cumulative 14 points including 12 raid points. JAMMU, Oct 12: The open-ing ceremony of SchoolOlympics 2016 being organizedby District AdministrationJammu in collaboration withDepartment of Youth Services &Sports will be held at MAStadium at 3 pm tomorrow.

All the participating schoolswill attend march past at MAStadium which will be followedby the two opening matches ofVolleyball in the boys and girlscategories.

The seven day long sportsfestival will include Basketball,Volleyball, Football, Hockey,Kabaddi, Badminton, TableTennis and Athletics as theevents. The closing ceremonywill be held at BSF Camp,Paloura on October 21.

Around 4100 children from125 Government and privateschools are participating in theSchool Olympics. The schoolsas far as from the border areas ofPallanwala, Arnia andSuchetgarh are also participat-ing.

The event will be conductedat six different venues. Around150 officials of Youth Servicesand Sports Department will bedeployed for conducting theevents. The CRPF will be facili-tating the opening ceremony atMA Stadium.
