Poppy straw seized,accused arrested Excelsior CorrespondentUDHAMPUR, Sept 24:
Udhampur Police today seizedone kg poppy straw and arrest-ed the accused, who wassmuggling the narcotic in ascooty.
The Scooty JK14D-1635,was intercepted by a Policeparty at MH Chowk,Udhampur. During thoroughsearch of the two-wheeler,Police recovered one kg poppystraw, which was seized.Police arrested the rider,namely Parshotam Kumar ofChakhar in Udhampur and alsoseized the scooty.
In this connection, a caseFIR number 444/17 under sec-tion 8/15 NDPS Act has beenregistered in Police StationUdhampur.

KATHUA Sept 24: DeputyCommissioner Kathua RameshKumar today visited border vil-lages Bobiya, Londi, ChandraChack, Pensar and took stock ofpreparedness for dealing withmigration of residents in view ofrecent cross border shellingincidents in Samba and Jammudistricts.
Pertinent to mention herethat district administration haskept ready the relief camps atidentified locations where fami-lies will be provided safeaccommodation and basicamenities.
Camp commanders andcamp officers have beenappointed for overseeingarrangements and making provi-sion for relief. Committees ofcamp inhabitants have also beenconstituted for coordination.
The DDC visited forwardareas and interacted with resi-dents. He assured the border res-idents that district administra-tion will provide transportation,shelter, food and other amenitiesif the need arises. He informedthem that evacuation plan hasbeen put in place to ensure safe-ty of the border inhabitants.
He said an emergencyresponse center has been estab-lished by district administrationwhere representatives of various
departments have been deputedfor immediate response.
Earlier, SDM Hiranagarapprised DDC that a group ofover 150 people stayed for oneday in the camp due to shellingincidents at border and returnedback to their home as theshelling stopped in the evening.
The DC was accompanied bySDM Hiranagar SureshChander, SDPO, Engineers ofPWD, PHE, PDD, Tehsildar andother senior officers of thedepartments.
