FIRST 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL

1 / 2 SWIMMING

Congratulations to our Prep students who on Tuesday this week completed their first 100 days of primary school as a class. Their task was to design , wear and share a t shirt that celebrates 100 – and how clever were our efforts!!!

It was a really fun day focussing on the number 100 – the highlight being the fashion show where the stu-dents walked the catwalk and shared their designs. Well done Preps!!

UNIFORM

We have collected a truly concerning amount of Lost Property, particularly uniform items, windcheaters and bomber jackets which are not named or incorrectly named (eg previous owner.)

This is having impact upon the number of students who are coming to school in non-uniform items.

School uniform is compulsory at Sherbourne PS and whilst we have the understanding that sometimes items get lost, go missing or are “in the wash and not yet dry”, we do not accept the regular wearing of non-uniform items.

A reminder we have a maroon top and black pants, but these should not have other markings other than the Sherbourne official logo.

Please help us by making sure all items of your child or children’sclothing are clearly and correctly named. Similarly coats, hats and gloves worn to school should be named to ensure they can be returned to their rightful owner.

Thank you.

UNIFORM WORKING PARTY

The school council are responsible for the school’s uniform policy and this year it is coming under review. The last review we had was in 2015. Uniform policy review requires consultation with our community to ensure the policy meets the needs of our community, meets the Department of Education and Training guidelines and is accessible and available to all.

This does not mean we are changing our school uniform, rather one aspect is looking at the current elements and assessing their function (for further ordering). Other aspects include the manner the uniform is worn, items that are unacceptable and any ideas for modification.

We are calling for Expressions of interest to be in this working party to review the current policy and make recommendations about our updated uniform policy.

When the policy is drafted it will be shared for further input. Please express your interest in this working party by contacting the school office by Monday August 5.

Last week the Year 1/2 students commenced their swimming lessons in the Sherbourne Pool. Thanks to those parents/grandparents who are assisting the kids at these sessions! The Year 1/2s will have 6 swim sessions this term and the Preps 6 swim sessions in Term 4.

Thursday is swimming day. Please remember to pack your bathers, towel, and goggles. It is particularly useful for swimmers to wear swim caps to reduce the number of hairs which get caught up in our filter as well as helps keep the student’s heads dry.

1/2 Swim classes will NOT take place next Thursday August 8. Lessons will resume on Thursday August 15. We have 4 sessions remaining.

TOURNAMENT OF MINDS

UPCOMING WORKING BEE

COMPASS ATTENDANCE A reminder to parents all absences and or appointments should be entered on Compass via the parent portal prior to the commencement of the school day. Families will receive an SMS message on the morning of an unexplained absence. Likewise if you are planning a family holiday please advise school in writing and enter the dates onto Compass prior to departure. If you are experiencing issues or have forgotten your Compass login and/or password please contact the school office for assistance.

We congratulate the following Year 5 and 6 students who make up our Tournament of Mind Team for 2019.

Ella Hicks, Thomas Webb, Damjan Paskoski, Ciarra Camilleri, Billie Harris, Zoe Hamilton and Keyti Annal-Stubbs.

The team are currently working on the 5-week long-term problem in the Arts category. The students will also have to respond to a spontaneous problem on the day of their presentation. This is a terrific collaborative and creative problem solving task which involves a lot of persistence, co-operation, communication and teamwork. We wish them the best with this challenge.

Our next Working Bee will be on Sunday August 11 from 10am to 1.00pm. We have lots of jobs including mowing, pruning, weeding, sweeping etc. The more hands on board we have the more we will get done. With the end of the oval project looming it is important we have our school looking at its peak!

Please return the slip in today’s newsletter if you can participate. If you would like to help and cannot help on that day please let the office know as we can assign jobs or organise to share a job on days other than the working bee.
