Good afternoon parents,
Several reminders for you: ES Parent conferences are tomorrow.
Students will be dismissed at 11:30 am. The conferences begin 12:00. I know that Ms. Julien has sent all of the details to all ES parents and we are looking forward to seeing all of you.
The NHS organized Bingo is this Saturday from 4:00pm-9:00pm.Please consider bringing the family to have some fun and support this student-led event.
I will be holding an Open Forum on December 6 from 7:00-9:00pm. Topics that I will be presenting are the 2018-2019 school calendar, the Administrative structure of the school, and the launch of the competitive sports program at ISPS. Following those presentations, I will open the floor to questions.
I would like to thank the PTO for hosting a very successful garage sale last Saturday. The event was very well attended. Thanks as well for hosting a teachers brunch earlier this week. It was a very welcome surprise.
This morning, we had a group of students attend and Energy Efficiency Workshop hosted by the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute. The focus of the workshop was practical applications of Solar and Wind energy. The students who attended will become part of a committee to develop short, medium, and long term projects here at ISPS. This was a wonderful opportunity to integrate our goals for the year of sustainable production and consumption with some ideas that are being implemented here in the Caribbean.
I wish you all a very nice weekend. J Barney Latham Director

Grades PK—5 students have started their third unit which will continue after the Christmas break.
Classroom teachers met with the social studies head of department on late-start Wednesday to discuss the vertical alignment of content and skills in each grade level. Following this discussion, we will review our social studies scope and sequence to ensure that the students are being taught the knowledge and skills required to prepare students for Middle school and subsequently High School.

Dear Parents,
Term One reports were posted on November 29th., and I encourage you to celebrate your child’s progress this term. Parent conferences will be held tomorrow starting at 12 noon, please check your scheduled appointment. All students are dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Please ensure that all students are collected on time. Classroom teachers will meet in their classes while specialists will be meeting in the music room. Please make every effort to see the specialist teachers (music, art, p.e., media, etc.)
Thank you to the PTO for treating our teachers to a delicious breakfast on Tuesday.
The upcoming holiday concert carded for December 13 and 14 is in its full swing of rehearsals. Our after-school drama club students (main cast), Mr. Low Chew Tung, and Ms. Trim have been working feverishly on the play: Christmas Around the World. Additionally, all classes have been polishing their part for the full rehearsals that will occur during the last week of school. Many thanks to the teachers for working with them. There are limited seats in the theater, and teachers will be sending you tickets to accommodate your family for the event. Special mention to all the parents who have been working behind the scenes organizing the costumes, and working out the details with teachers.
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the first challenge of the WordMasters (20 words). The analogy test pushes the students to think about the relationship with words. Students are challenged to make connections with words. The word study helps students to think analytically and metaphorically.
Next week is the last week for the early morning program. The program will begin when we return from the holiday break.
Congratulations to the following students who achieved a score of 15 and above:
Top Scorers: Stephanie (Gr.4), Avery ( Gr.4), Lucius (Gr.5), Nicholas (Gr.3), *Keabetswe (Gr.3), and *Scott (Gr.5) (*highest scorers)

PIZZA = Fractions: Any Way You Slice It! As part of our math unit in 4th grade we decided that we should explore making fractions in the real world. In small groups were given different tasks on how to divide our piz-zas for a different amount of people! We also had to measure our ingredients based on fractions of a cup. MR. BARNEY explains to the kindergarten students about the joy of giving at Christmas.
Students learn that the tree in the front office is special because the presents under the tree are for children whose parents can't afford to buy them anything for Christmas.
The kindergartners are all excited now to give a gift that will make other little boys and girls have a Very Merry Christmas. Momeda Khan

Students Use Analytical Skills with their Reading
This month grade 3 students started reading Legends of the St Anns Flood. A book that supports the PYP Unit How the World Works looking at Natural disasters. The book is a fictional account of the deadly flood that occurred in Trinidad in 1993.
Students got into groups to analyze the characters and setting of the first three chapters of the book. They built character trait maps and found supporting details from the text for the traits they found. Ijanaya Jacob Librarian

Hello Everyone, This week there were still some
students with flu like symptoms though less than last week. Most of the symptoms were sore throat, headaches, coughs, stomachaches, nausea and some had vomiting.
Please encourage the children to cough and sneeze into their sleeves or shirts or into paper towels then discard.
Do have a wonderful weekend.

Brian McDonald, a software engineer at Vital Images, a healthcare imaging company in the United States, visited the AP Physics 2 class to de-scribe his work as a 'devops' engineer and to discuss with students possible educational paths for those interested in engineering. Students were particularly interested in hearing about the different projects of Mr. McDonald's over the years - including his mapping of Alaskan glaciers with a laser while hanging out of an airplane! Mr. McDonald also kept our students enthralled as he described his interest in 3D 'virtual reality' software,
including his own efforts to develop games for the new headsets on the market. He proved to be a versatile presenter, wrapping up his talk by juggling three bags of corn flour! George Leiter AP Physics 2

We just completed our second unit of inquiry where we looked at matter, its properties, the way it changes and how the uses of materials de-pends on their properties.
Students investigated whether air has mass, how dissolution affects the mass of salt and sugar, and how photosynthesis is an
example of a chemical change amongst other things.

Astronomy can be a very exciting area for anyone to learn about. Through as-tronomy many areas are covered -- Physics, Geography, History and much more.
This area of study is great for the chil-dren as it enables them to use their im-aginations as they plunge into the uni-verse while discovering stars, nebula and planets.
At ISPS we try to engage our students in active learning and have them apply new concepts and phenomena to what they already know, enabling them to achieve lifelong understanding various concepts.
The ISPS Community and friends were invited to the event and a fun time was had by all. We look forward to seeing you at our next ISPS star party.

from 3 to 12. These clubs will run throughout the year in three Seasons- August to December,
January to March and March to June. Students will train two days every week for ninety minutes; or, three times if they
are preparing for a major tournament. Interested students will pay to register ($600 TTD, see form below) for each
club at the beginning of each season. Coaches will be responsible for entering tournaments, organising
tournaments and setting up friendlies. Students will be responsible for purchasing their own training kits and
uniforms. Only students from these clubs will be selected for CAISSA teams, Local League
games, other tournaments and friendlies. This will not interfere with our existing After School Activity program as
students are free to register for the activities of their choice. Rationale for this program: This program will ensure the continuity and quality of our sports teams. This will provide parents and students opportunities for further devel-
opment in the sport of their choice year round. Our teams will be in training throughout the year and not seasonal.
