PROF. ACHALA L. NARGUNDProf. Achala L. Nargund completed her Post Graduation in Mathematics in the year 1982 fromGulbarga University securing second rank. Under the able guidance of Prof. M. Venkatacha-lappa, Prof. Achala secured her Doctor of Philosophy based on the thesis entitled “Propagationof quasi-simple waves in conducting and non-conducting medium” in the year 2001. Hardworking and sincere by nature she has set an example for others to follow. In the field of per-sonal acquaintance her relationship has always been a cordial one; for being instructive withoutbeing invidious and corrective without being contentious has been her endeavor. Too simple tobe ceremonious and too silent to be sanctimonious, she has created an indefectible impressionamongst all. For tenacity of purpose, for suavity of dialect, for refinement of intellect and forsincerity of purpose and devotion to duty she have been a special attraction. Prof. Achala hasbeen a part of M. E. S. Degree College since 1992.

Prof. Achala L. Nargund presented a talk on New Technique To Solve Non Linear PartialDifferential Equations.

M. E. S. BULLETIN OF APPLIED SCIENCESA bulletin is a scholarly periodical of a learned society. As a part of the Diamond Jubilee

Celebrations of our institution, we brought out our own bulletin, namely M.E.S. Bulletin ofApplied Sciences. We will be publishing articles of Mathematical Sciences (i.e., Mathematics,Statistics, Computer Science), Physical Sciences (i.e., Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy), LifeSciences (i.e., Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology) and Social Sciences (Economics, History, Po-litical Science, Psychology, Sociology). This bulletin will be a biannual journal. Two issueswill be released in a year, one in March and the other in September. The first issue was releasedon the third day of the workshop.

The first issue was dedicated to Prof. H. S. Sharadamma, Retired Principal and Professor,M. E. S. Degree College. Prof. H S Sharadamma did her graduation and post graduation inmathematics from University of Mysore. She stood first in all subjects in her graduation andpost graduation and hence stood first for the University. She is a recipient of gold medal in allsubjects of her post graduation study. She was honoured by the Bangalore North Lions Club forher academic achievements. She joined M.E.S. College as a Lecturer. Eventually, she becameReader and Professor in Mathematics. She was honoured by the Bangalore North Lions Clubfor her work as a teacher. She became the Head of Under-Graduate Department of Mathematicsin the year 1963. She started taking classes for Post Graduation in the year 1986 and till nowshe is in service. She became the Principal of M.E.S. Degree College in the year 1992. She isan ocean of knowledge and has abundant memory power. She is an inspiration to students aswell as teachers.

The first issue is also a Post Graduate Students Issue as it contains articles only fromPost Graduate M.Sc. students. M.Sc. students have projects in their final semester. Alreadytwo batches of students have done projects. Among these, some are presented in the form ofresearch articles in the first issue.
