Having travelled the world extensively for one year experiencing a variety of cultures and gaining employment abroad, I became a more motivated and confident person. This has since helped me in my career to understand and work well alongside my peers, whilst having the ability to be decisive and efficient to achieve a final outcome. My experience as a passenger vessel skipper helped to develop a broad range of skills from learning the technical aspects of the vessel to the overall management of all staff on board. I work well within a team and promoted this amongst the crew on board with clear communication and methodical planning to undertake our tasks. This profession required me to be well organised, often solving last minute problems with alternative actions that still fulfilled our clients demands. Ultimately I learnt the need to listen to our customers’ needs and be flexible which meant we could excel at providing the best river cruise experience. Having furthered my career to gain my Deck Officer of the Watch Unlimited certificate of competency I am now looking forward to new challenges and prospects from working in the wider maritime industry. I would like to go on to complete more qualifications whilst having the opportunity to work alongside and learn from other maritime professionals. Career History: Jan 2011 Dec 2013: Deck Cadet sponsored by Evergreen Marine (UK) LTD Ship Safe Training Group (SSTG) Training Provider Attended Warsash Maritime Academy in Southampton following the Merchant Navy Training Board Deck Officer syllabus completing 1 year sea service interspersed with studies ashore. The sea service was undertaken on Evergreen Marine’s UK registered container fleet of vessels. Whilst at sea I undertook training in all aspects of a deck officer’s duty which included: Bridge navigation watches plotting positions, monitoring all navigation systems and cross checking information, responding to any alarms, communicating with outside parties via radio communication, updating charts, logbooks and administrative records, daily operational checks of GMDSS, helming the vessel, helping with mooring duties at mooring stations, adhering to all environmental policies (MARPOL) or any port/region specific legislations, promote safe working practices as per the companys safety management system, help to issue permits to work. Checking and maintaining all lifesaving and firefighting appliances and organising replacement and servicing, undergo regular emergency drills and carry out safety briefings to crew. Deck maintenance alongside the Bosun and AB’s – chipping, painting, greasing, cleaning, checking cargo lashings, carry out risk assessments prior to an activity to identify hazards and implement control measures. Port Watches Monitoring the ship’s security as per ISPS regulations, managing the ballast system, checking the loading of containers, maintain COSWOP procedures for all persons on board, checking the mooring conditions, liaising with port officials.

April 2008 – Jan 2011: Environment Agency – Legal & Estates Assistant Assisted prosecution lawyers in preparing case files for criminal proceedings relating to environmental crimes and prepared information for parliamentary enquiries\committees. Feb 2007 – April 2008: –Temporary roles at Porsche GB, PepsiCo UK Porsche UK: General office administration within the legal department. PepsiCo: Oversaw customer-ordering accounts and deliveries for Makro, Palmer & Harvey, Tesco. Jan 2006 – Jan 2007: World Travel Europcar (Sydney Australia) - Maintained car rental fleet to ensure ready for rental, ensuring customer satisfaction and answering their questions.

Island Air Charter (Tauranga Airport New Zealand) - Helped with the daily running of aircraft ensuring they were loaded and ready for flight and went on flights when required to help. 2000 – 2014: Thames River Cruise & French Brothers - Boat Skipper (Part\Full-Time) River Thames charter boat company’s based in Reading and Windsor operating vessels upon the upper River Thames for public and private functions. Regular clients include Festival Republic - Reading Rock Festival, Henley Royal Regatta, Microsoft, KPMG, Price Waterhouse Coopers, and Oracle. Began as a student summer job and then promoted to skipper gaining a Boat Masters licence for the River Thames to carry up to 250 persons. As a skipper I was the most senior representative of the company on board the vessel managing all crew and associate staff. My priority was the safe navigation of the vessel on congested waterways whilst also providing the highest level of customer service. As skipper I was involved in all aspects of preparation from engine checks and maintenance, refuelling to stocking the vessel and checking all safety equipment. During cruises I would have clear communication with all crew members checking that all departments were functioning well and foreseeing any problems. I would endeavour to check on the customer’s satisfaction and follow up on any demands or extra actions we could carry out to fulfil their needs. As a result I developed many new skills form being more confident in front of the public to predicting future events and planning ahead to overcome any difficulties.
