8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Registration, Refreshments and Exhibitor Visits

9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Welcome and Introductions Kurt Knutson, KBA Chairman

You May Be Playing in the Minors, But Act Like a Major League Player Joe Micallef, Grow Up Sales The skill and commitment on display by athletes playing in both the minor and major leagues is equally impres-sive. In banking it should be no different, yet many community bankers regularly grieve over the challenges they face when trying to “compete” with the major providers. There is no reason why you can’t be the major player in your local market. Start by overcoming any limiting beliefs that you are simply a minor league player and lever-age your unique strengths to act like you are the best player in your field.

10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Refreshment Break and Exhibitor Visits

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Finding the Dark Cloud Behind the Silver Lining: The 2019 Economy Dr. Chris Kuehl, Armada

There has never been a dull moment as far as the economy is concerned in 2019. The constant threat of disrup-tive trade wars has thus far failed to blunt the enthusiasm of the consumer or the business community. Jobless rates are down to record levels, but labor shortage is now a crisis. Growth in the US has been above expected levels, but global growth is anemic and that will have an impact. There are suddenly questions regarding the next recession and what the Fed or Congress plans to do about it -- all with the 2020 elections approaching fast.

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 P.M.

1:15 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.

Luncheon and KBA ReportDoug Wareham, KBA President

Concurrent Session #1 (choose one)

1. Networking Excellence: The Art of ConnectingJoe Micallef, Grow UP SalesOne of the most common business development activities undertaken by sales people today is to attendnetworking functions for the purpose of building their contacts. Many bankers, however, struggle to clearlydifferentiate themselves at these events and fail to leverage the great business opportunities available. Byhoning your networking strategy and developing more effective networking skills, you will be able to betterleverage these important events and generate better business opportunities.

2. CECL for LendersDr. Bruce Morgan, PhD, Professional Bank Consultants, LLCWhile implementation of CECL has been delayed, it’s never too early to hone in on your plan for complyingwith these rules. Dr. Bruce will provide a practical explanation of the core principles underlying CECL, in-cluding calculation methods and community bank examples; guidelines for CECL models; a discussion ofthe WARM method used by a Kansas community bank; and what steps need to be taken to prepare for im-plemention.

3. Loan Structuring: A Banker’s “Best Friend”Tim Ohlde, Elk State Bank, ClydeJoin this session for a look at loan structuring, including structuring options for working with stressed credits.Do’s and don’ts will be shared, as well as the key items related to structuring, including terms of the loan, financing methods or types, repayment approaches and collateral, covenants and monitoring.

2:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Transition to concurrent session #2

Page 3: THIS YEAR S CONFERENCE WILL BE THE PLACE TO ...Dr. Chris Kuehl, Armada There has never been a dull moment as far as the economy is concerned in 2019. The constant threat of disrup-tive

2. Regulatory Hot Topics Affecting Lenders Dylan Serrault, KBA Staff Attorney/Compliance Auditor It seems that lending regulations change as quickly as the weather these days. Recent studies show that compliance costs are twice as much for community banks than large banks. One of the best ways to miti- gate costs and penalties are maintaining current and accurate knowledge of what is required in your bank. This session will cover recent changes to lending regulations and laws in addition to areas being targeted by examiners.

3. Banking Cannabis in Kansas: Hemp, CBD and Marijuana-related Business Risk… Oh My! Terri Thomas, KBA Senior Vice President Today, it seems like every discussion amongst bankers ends up touching on the topics of cannabis and cannabis-related business activities. It’s no wonder, as confusion about the legality of these products is pervasive and clarification is often not found in either state or federal laws. Learn the latest information about how state and federal laws deal with these topics, best practices, as well as the risks and rewards of banking these customers.

3:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Refreshment break and Exhibitor Visits 3:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. Capturing UFOs: Unparalleled Funding Opportunities Neil Stanley, The CorePoint As “surge deposits” become a thing of the past, bankers across the country are observing the increasing im-portance of more effective management of liquidity and funding. Community bankers need a robust understand-ing of the processes, products, and analytic tools needed to attract and retain properly priced, long-term funding, especially as interest rates and loan-to-deposit ratios increase. This informative session will explore the art and science of retail deposit pricing and sales in today’s banking environment. 5:15 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Cocktails and Conversation with Exhibitors

Thursday, October 3_______________________________________________________________ 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Breakfast Buffet and Exhibitor Visits 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Communicate More Effectively With Your Boss, Your Staff and Your Customers Terri Thomas, KBA Senior Vice President Today’s financial institutions understand that in order to compete, they must build and maintain successful team cultures. Unfortunately, pitfalls, if not understood and properly managed, cannot only hinder a financial institu-tion from meeting its goals but can create a negative, and even hostile, environment for management, employ-ees and customers alike. Learn how perception influences our day-to-day interactions with others, as well as how to identify and work with various social styles in order to establish successful relationships with your coworkers and customers.

9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Social Engineering: Solving the Problem of People Jonathan Lanning, Cyber Security Program Director Friend University, Wichita This session will cover some of the most current and prevalent threats to organizations and personnel as they have become the primary targets of cyber-attacks. We will explore how an attack is formulated, and how we can take steps to preempt and prevent our organizations from being compromised. 10:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Refreshment Break and Exhibitor Visits 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. To Catch a Spy: The Art of Counterintelligence James Olson, Former CIA Mr. Olson will describe how the CIA today is on the front lines in fighting international terrorism. His presentation will cover life as a CIA operative and the effect it has on marriage and family life. Time permitting, Mr. Olson will share some actual operations he was involved in, including those involving the KGB. Audiences find this inside look into the real world of espionage both fascinating and uplifting as we learn more about the men and women who protect American citizens and defend American values. Trust us…this is a session you won’t want to miss. 12:00p.m. Adjournment
