lifespan

New Delhi, Delhi, India
Credihealth is running a campaign against smoking this World No Tobacco Day on 31st
May, 2015. This campaign showcases the harmful effects of tobacco not only to the
person smoking, but also to the people around them.
Every year, World No Tobacco Day is observed on the 31st of May with the intention to
encourage people from across the globe to stop smoking for 24 hours. This is one day
entirely dedicated to informing people of the ill effects of tobacco consumption. This
year, the international campaign focuses on stopping illicit trade of tobacco products.
According to the WHO, one out of 10 cigarettes (among other tobacco products) are
illegal.
Credihealth has been focusing on spreading health awareness through different social
media platforms since the past year. Majority of campaigns present on Facebook,
Credihealth has also joined other social media giants like Instagram and Twitter to
reach out to more masses. This World No Tobacco Day, Credihealth will be driving this
campaign across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and online communities.
7,000 chemicals. Tobacco contains that many chemicals, out of which 250 are known to
be harmful and at least 69 can cause cancer. So, why is it that people are still
consuming tobacco? Human beings have always abused drugs, especially tobacco
which is a psychostimulant. This drug affects the body, typically enhancing alertness
even leading to an ‘up’ feeling. People would rather feel this way than to focus on the
fact that tobacco contains highly dangerous substances like hydrogen cyanide, carbon
monoxide, and ammonia.
Taking a look into history, we see an increase in the production of tobacco leaf by 40%
between 1971 and 1997. Ironic how the top producers of tobacco remain developing
countries – China coming in first, followed by India and Brazil. Another interesting fact
is that out of 1.22 billion tobacco consumers, 1 billion of them are from transitioning
economies.
Credihealth also has a blog that has published several articles on how heart diseases,
lung diseases and several types of cancers are caused by consuming tobacco. The
‘Credi Colors of Hope’ Facebook group is another initiative by this health start-up that
aims to make people awareness of cancer causing agents, diseases and updates from
around the world.
