Round 9 Milestones

Mazel-Tov to the following boys who all registered personal milestones in Round 8.

Sammy Guttmann (U13 Jets) – 50 games Although Sammy was unable to celebrate his 50th with a win, he would have been a proud boy to reach this milestone.

Josh Kessel (U13 Jets) – 50 games Josh was also unable to make his milestone game a memorable one but to reach 50 games for the Jackas is a wonderful achievement.

**** IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING UPCOMING MILESTONES****

The AJFC advises everyone that if you need clarification as to how many junior games of football your child has currently played, it is important you rely on the records kept by the AJFC.

The AJFC keeps our own ACCURATE records and these are maintained by our very own website and games co-ordinator Harry Jacobs.

Each week Harry publishes a list of the boys who are due to register an “upcoming personal milestone” on our website (www.ajfc.com.au). Make sure you check it out.

In the week leading up to the milestone Harry will also send the milestone player(s) an email with banner information together with details as to how they can be featured on the website following their milestone match.

Alternatively, if you want to confirm the number of games your child has currently played, Harry is happy for you to email him at [email protected]

Our website also provides a link to the number of Junior games played to season 2013. On the RHS of the home page under the “Downloads” section, look for the document titled “Junior Games to 2013”.

Finally, please DO NOT rely on the details recorded in the Sporting Pulse system as these figures are often inaccurate. Rely on the accurate ones maintained by the AJFC.

Round 9 Results & Match Reports

U8 Comets: Ajax Comets 9.10 (64) def St Bedes Mentone Tigers 0.1 (1) Goals: Jacobs 3, Schwarz 2, Aladjem, Casper, Flinkier, Newett Best: Flinkier, Jacobs, Newett, Nussbaum, Schwarz, Slutzkin

Match Report In what is becoming a weekly occurrence the boys got off to a blistering start piling on forward entry after forward entry. Unfortunately stray kicking cost Ajax a chance to ice the game in the first quarter by kicking 4 goals and 7 behinds. The following two quarters followed the same pattern with big clearances from the middle getting the ball inside fifty, where our forwards dominated. With three players missing and two injuries, the bench was down to one. The boys stuck to their structures and kept St Bedes Mentone goalless, running out massive 63 point winners. In their first year this group is creating a very special season of footy winning 8 games straight.

U9 Comets: Prahran 4.4 (28) def Ajax Comets 2.0 (12) Goals: Kister 2 Best: Graham, T Grodski, Kister, Pike, Smorgon, Sormann

Match Report In a tight game, Prahran managed to get in front early, leaving Ajax to play catch up. Ajax had as much of the ball as Prahran but couldn’t convert on the scoreboard in the first half. Some great run from Graham, Pike, Smorgon and T.Grodski kept the team competitive throughout the match while Sormann was dominating possessions around the ground and even took a huge mark over the top that had the crowd up cheering. Kister finally popped up with 2 goals in the second half that brought the team within reach of a victory, but time ran out before the boys could get there. A great game from both teams.

Match Report After comfortably defeating St Bedes/Mentone earlier in the year the Jets were confident travelling to Southern Road reserve on a cold but clear morning. Right from the outset it was evident that St Bedes were focussed and determined to win. For the second week in a row our opposition were hungrier for the ball and our players found it hard to get clear possession. Under constant pressure all day our players showed heart to keep the scoreline within reading distance. Let’s hope that the Jets can rediscover their form from the first half of the year as we approach the lightning carnival.

Match Report Today the Stars played footy the way that footy should be played. Up against a more experienced St Paul's side who smashed them only 5 weeks ago the Stars stood tall, tackled, harassed and let St Paul's know that today would be different. As coaches all we can ask is that the players listen to instructions, follow the rules and put their bodies on the line for their team mates and the Stars did

that to a man. In what was one of the toughest and most entertaining games of junior footy that you

could see, the Stars fell agonisingly short of a win, but have now set the bar on how they are

expected to play each week.Well done to all the boys on keeping the effort up for four quarters.

U9 Jets: St Bedes/Mentone 6.6 (42) def Ajax Jets 1.2 (8) Goals: Levy Best: Goldfarb, Michelson, Nagar, Nirens, Zielinski

U9 Stars: St Pauls 6.7 (43) def Ajax Stars 6.4 (40) Goals: Black, Cohen, Dahan, Hart, Klein, Ossip Best: Apel, Black, Klein, Nathan, Rockman, Rozenes

U10 Comets: Ajax Comets 13.11 (89) def Ormond Brown 3.1 (19) Goals: H Sheezel 5, Aladjem 3, Chrapot 2, Solomon 2, Wasbutzki Best: Aladjem, Chrapot, H Sheezel, Spicer, Stein, Waks)

Match Report The Under 10 Comets overcame a slow start against the wind to overrun Ormond Brown in the final three quarters. The Jackers took control of the game after the first break with their midfield dominance and played solid running football to give their forwards plenty of opportunities in the difficult conditions. The game was highlighted by team spirit and unselfish play and every player contributed to an outstanding result in front of the crowd at Princes Park which included an interested onlooker, Hawthorn’s, Al Clarkson whose first venture into coaching was as an adviser at the Ajax Juniors in the late 1990s.

Match Report Led by captains the reliable Joel Green and gutsy Phil Pacanowski, Ajax U10 Jets were out for revenge against the well drilled Ormond side. With the wind in the first quarter, Ajax boys dominated possession, had the ball in the forward line for the entire qtr, but only managed to score 1 goal. The second qtr was a similar story with Ajax having plenty of the ball, but did not capitalize on the opportunities and went in at half time all square. The final half was an even contest with both sides doing their best to maintain possession to try and score. Ajax boys fought out the game and played to their strengths of chase, tackle, run/kick long but just came up short to a side with a little more skill on the day. Overall a solid performance and one we put in the bank as another step in the team development as we head towards the lightning premiership.

U11 Comets: Ajax Comets 7.6 (48) def Murrumbeena Gold 3.9 (27) Goals: Jacobs 2, Israel, Lindell, Peker, Rosenbaum, Vogel Best: N Hershan, Jacobs, Lindell, Nissen, Peker, Rotstein

Match Report The boys had a really gutsy win today after being totally outplayed in the first half - we were very lucky to be slightly ahead at half time! Our second half was brilliant, with Josh Lindell setting an amazing example for the team in how we must attack the ball, break open packs, and do the 1 percenters!!

Great game from Brett Jacobs playing a defensive wing position to start with, and then damaging the opposition when moved forward. Top games from Zac (at full back), Josh's Rotstein and Rosenbaum, Justin Vogel and Matt Peker. Ethan and Nick Hershan also racked up loads of possessions in their midfield roles and were great players for us all day.

As coaches, we are so thrilled to see everyone growing and developing as AJAX footy players. You were all so committed to playing your team roles today even though some of you were in unusual positions.

Let's keep doing what we're doing and keep the winning momentum going. We have some big challenges ahead of us, but I am sure we'll be up for it!

Well done boys!

Dan and Adam

U10 Jets: Ormond 3.7(25) def Ajax Jets 1.5 (11) Goals: Kaye Best: Chalfon, Green, Guttmann, Mushin, Pacanowski, Zuker

Page 8: This week’s “photo” of the week” is brought to you by …...Today the Stars played footy the way that footy should be played. Up against a more experienced St Paul's side who

Match Report Q1 we played against the wind and we kept East Malvern from scoring too many goals. Q2 Ajax utilised the wind in the 2nd quarter to kick 3 goals and maintain a 2 point lead. 3rd Quarter we kicked to two quick behinds followed by three goals. Q4 Ajax dominated kicking 5 goals to East Malverns 0.

Match Report A terrific team effort across the board with 8 goal scorers. Through our dominant midfield clearances, tough tackling, strong marketing and commitment to be first at the ball, we dominated the game from the first bounce. After the half time break Cheltenham came out with some real fight, which made the second half a physically tough game. And while it took us a little time to refocus on our game plan and show them we could match their tenacity, we stood tall to the challenge and finished off with a very solid win. Making the win extra special were a couple a firsts, being Dylans first goal, Lochies first goal/s (only took 5 years), and Elior's tremendous on ball disposal and support. The boys really took on board the commitment they made to each other at the end of training Thursday night to ensure they did not let their teammates down by giving 100% of themselves. With the confidence gained from todays performance, it should put us in good stead for next weeks game against top of the ladder Mordialloc Braeside.

U12 Jets: Ajax Jets 10.7 (67) def Hampton Rovers 3.4 (22) Goals: Sheezel 4, Bardas 2, A Carp, Kalifa, Micmacher, Mitsel Best: Bardas, Durra, Grodski, Herskope, Mitsel, Sheezel

Match Report Today the U12 Jets faced the 6th place Hampton Rovers in what loomed as a danger game. Having won a number of close contests over the past few weeks, there was a concern that the boys would not bring the same level of intensity to today’s game. Playing at home on Oval 1, the Jets got off to a flyer in the first term. Kicking against a strong breeze, Ajax kicked 3 goals to nothing to take a commanding lead. They continued on in the 2nd quarter to lead by 37 points at ½ time. The boys combined for some of their best link up play of the season, carrying the ball from end-to-end to set-up several goals. Unfortunately they missed an opportunity for a real percentage boost in a lackluster 2nd half. Special mention to Toby Sheezel, who put on a footy clinic, kicking 4 goals playing on the ball. Go Jets.

U13 Girls: U13 Girls 6.6 (42) def Waverley Park Hawks 5.4 (34)

Goals: Axtens 2, Szydlik 2, Doherty-Brown, West

Match Report Today we played at home against Waverly Park, because three players were unavailable to play the structure of the team changed. Jessica was moved down to the back line and Ella started in the middle, Mia was today's captain, she won the toss and chose to kick against the wind which turned out to be a master stroke. In the first quarter we got off to a good start led by Amanda, Kelly, Mia, Lauren, Ella and Maddie unfortunately we were unable to score a goal. U13 Girls 0-1 (1) Waverley 2-2 (14) In the Second Quarter we continued our great team play and we had the ball locked in our forward line for half of the quarter but we were unlucky not to kick a goal despite the girls trying very hard, Jessica, Ella, Kelly, Chloe, Marnie, Lara, Nicola and Emma all performed very well. U13 Girls 0-4 (4) Waverley 3-3 (21)

U11 Jets: Ajax Jets 11.10 (76) def East Malvern 4.3 (27) Goals: Efron 3, Braby 2, Landau 2, Spark 2, Ehrlich 1, Zielinski 1 Best: Braby, Efron, Ehrlich, Goldberg, Lazala, Zielinski

U12 Comets: Ajax Comets 14.7 (91) def Cheltenham Black 3.6 (24) Goals: Davis 3, Port 2, Taranto 2, Zuker 2, Brick, E Cohen, D Cohen, Gross, Zufi Best: Brick, Davis, Freeman, Morris, Port, Taranto

U13 Girls match report continued

At halftime the girls were asked to keep working hard, and to stay positive. But we had to start to convert our chances to stay in the game. We needed to apply some scoreboard pressure on Waverley Park. In the third quarter all the girls performed very well, they all played their roles well and we were able to kick two goals to keep in the touch with Waverlty Park. It was very encouraging to see the girls response to my address at half time, they were led by Nicola Kelly, Emma, Chloe and Imo. U13 Girls 2-5 (17) Waverley 4-3 (27) Well what can we say about the last quarter, without doubt the best quarter we have played so far this season! Every girl played their role and played it well. The defence were disciplined and restricted the opposition from scoring heavily, the midfield were tireless in their pressure around the contest and the forwards were sensational, led by Vicki and Maddie who both kicked 2 goals each. Kelly, Jessica, Imo, Emma, Marnie all performed well, in fact Marnie was integral in us kicking the winning goal to seal the teams second victory of the season. Well Done Girls! See you at training. U13 Girls 6-6 (42) def Waverley 5-4 (34).

Braham & Damo

U13 Comets: Ajax Comets 10.12 (72) def Oakleigh 1.0 (6) Goals: Chrapot 2, Elbaum 2, Krongold 2, Jacobs, Kalb, Lipton, Nirens Best: Bryer, Cowan, Elbaum, Jacobs, Kalb, Lipton

Match Report This was potentially our greatest challenge to date, but the boys were up to the challenge, winning the game in the first quarter with great ball movement, execution, teamwork and discipline. The remaining three quarters was a bit of a slog, on an unusually sticky ground, but the boys managed to ground out another significant and comprehensive victory. Outstanding contributions from Lipton, Elbaum and Jacobs paved the way. They were ably supported by speedsters Cowan and Kalb, while Bryer showed his usual composure throughout the match. Looking forward to taking on the second placed team next week, to get a clearer idea of where we are currently at.

9-0 for the season to date and a massive improvement in all your games over the last month has been very pleasing. You should all be proud of your efforts so far. You have met every obstacle and every challenge without skipping a beat. As I said to you today it was not a pretty win but a win is a win. We have to win under all conditions and as a coaching panel we made many postional changes in the second half to see how various players would perform in different positions. Dylan, Rod,Harry and Ash will take care of the next 3 games but just take it one week at a time. I don't want to sound repetitive but next week will be your biggest test of the year. Murrumbeena have only lost 1 game and look like our threat to going all the way this year. We will also only have 2 on the bench. Re-focus and start fresh. Many of you looked a bit down today so have a think about setting yourselves each other new targets and goals. Dylan and Rod will get you pumped up again for this Sunday and it starts at training. I'll be chatting with them whilst I am away and I have full faith in your ability to continue our great record. Anthony E U13 Jets: Hampton Rovers 4.7 (31) def Ajax Jets 2.8 (20) Goals: Miller, Southwick Best: Boymal, Guttman, Kessell, Nissen, Page, Zelwer

Match Report None reported.

U14 Comets: Ormond 13.7 (85) def Ajax Comets 9.10 (64) Goals: Lincoln 3, Nankin 2, Efron, Michelson, Reichenberg, Lipton Best: Antman, LaSala, Nankin, Smart, Wise, Zeilinski

Match Report None reported.

U14 Jets: Ajax Jets 10.11 (71) def East Sandringham 5.4 (34) Goals: Pat 4, Aisen, B Cohen, Gross, Kaplan, Peker, Tepper Best: Briggs, E Cohen, Friede, Malka, Pat, Zeimer

Match Report A fast start led to a commanding first quarter lead in Noah Briggs’ 50th game. A consistent and hard team effort saw Ajax dominate the game between two undermanned teams, and a deserved victory was achieved.

U15 Comets: East Brighton 8.10 (58) def Ajax Comets 6.7 (43) Goals: Meltzer 2, Beaconsfield, Rosham , Teperman, Velleman Best: Beaconsfield, Meltzer, Shapiro, Spilkin, Teperman, Velleman

Match Report None reported. U16 Jets: St Bedes 9.12 (66) def Ajax Jets 9.11 (65) Goals: Nissenbaum 3, Paltiel 3, Cohen, Krakauer, Menahem Best: Aufgang, Blecher, Cohen, Fisher, Krakauer, Nissenbaum

Match Report A very spirited whole hearted effort that I was very disappointed to have not got the result - we deserved it. The way the ball moved, the run and carry and the discipline overall was very good. Blech was outstanding down back. Krak, Aufgang, Cohen and Kane were very good. Nochum your run and carry is very important to this team - well done.

Match Report I need a response to today and I need to see it next weekend. Don't turn a bad game into a bad week - we move forward on Wednesday.

SEASON 2014 AJAX WEEKLY WRAP ,

ROUND 10

AJAX FC Club Sponsor

Twin Towers take down Caulfield by Jeff Shenker AJAX have leapt back into the Premier B top four, and sit third on the ladder, after a commanding 10-goal win over Caulfield Grammarians. The Jackas Twin Towers were in full flight, with David Fayman booting 6 goals, to head the competition goal kicking, and Jake Lew, despite a nagging leg injury, kicking 5 goals for the match. In a very even team

performance, the midfield

was able to supply the

forwards with a number of

opportunities, which both

Fayman and Lew relished.

Josh Ludski, Ash Kalb,

Warren Steinberg and Asher

Burstin showed why they are the future of the club, whilst

stalwarts Ari Lewski , Jason

Ritterman and Gary Blieden

showed they still have the

hunger to play at the highest

level.

After winning the toss and

kicking to the scoring end,

Ajax conceded the opening

goal of the match, but quickly

hit back with 2 goals each to

David Fayman, and Asher

Burstin, the latter relishing the

challenge of taking on his

former team-mates. Jake Lew

added a fifth for the Jackas just

before ¼ time and the Jackas

had a handy 23-point lead at

the first break.

In a scrappy second term, Ajax

held the ascendancy, and

although Caulfield were able

to put pressure on the Jackas,

David Fayman and Jake Lew

each posted 2 majors to

extend the lead to 32 points

at ½ time.

AJAX failed to take full

advantage of kicking to the

scoring end in the third

quarter, and the team’s

inaccuracy saw 3 goals

kicked from 9 scoring

attempts. Caulfield mounted

a challenge early, but that

was quickly snuffed out with

Lew and Fayman again

proving unstoppable up

forward, both having 5 goals

by ¾ time, and Ajax more

than double Caulfield’s

score at the final change.

Coach McQuillan moved

Steinberg into the forward

line at the start of the final

quarter, with immediate

results. In a 10-minute

purple patch,Steinberg

kicked 3 goals and left

Caulfield licking their

wounds.

Corey Jankie sliced his way

through the Caulfield

defense for a great goal,

before David Fayman kicked

his sixth to put the icing on

the cake.

AJAX running out 10 goal

winners and putting

themselves back into the top

4, and building momentum

heading into the second half

of the season.

Unfortunately, the Reserves

faltered at the final hurdle,

and after leading for the

majority of the game, were

unable to hold on for a much

needed win. Caulfield

kicked 6 goals to none in the

final term in a disappointing

end to a match that could

have seen the Ressies stay in

touch with the top four.

In a battle for fourth position

on the ladder, the Under

19’s were soundly defeated

by Marcellin. The Jackas

battled bravely, but went

down by 9 goals.

The Thirds played top team,

Old Xaverians, and fell just

short of a major upset. Six

goals down at ¾ time, the

Jackas booted 5 goals to 1 in

the final term to go down by

13 points.

AJAX Backyard Blitz On Sunday, 8 Ajax players & committee members heeded the call and went to attend a “gardening bee” at the Gary Smorgon Aged Care facility. We spent 2 hours assisting in a “Backyard Blitz” which was a great result for the facility. A massive mini skip was filled with weeds, unwanted trees and rubbish and the facility’s manager couldn’t have been happier as all the chores they needed done, were done and the gardens now look great !

This is the first of many such activities the AJAX boys will be a part of and all left feeling very good about giving back to the community, an important part of our mission statement at the Footy Club.
