Literacy and Topic Week 4 Summer 1 11.5.20 Wednesday

Today, you are going to be an adventurer and you are looking for somebody to come with you on a trip to

South America. Remember we researched facts about South America during our Geography lessons. Can

you remember some of the countries we would find there? To recap – What is an adventurer?

Have you ever seen the film “Up”? In the film Carl and Ellie make plans to go on an adventure to explore South

America. Watch this short clip and write down any words that you hear that describe the qualities of an adventurer.

What type of person would they be? Also think about any equipment they would need to take with them on their

adventure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4LYCgEB4fY (Parents/Carers – please watch the clip with your child and please

do not let the next clip automatically play as it may not b suitable for children. Thank you)

Now look at your ideas and decide whether they belong in the qualities list or the kit list. There are some examples

included to help you.

you need to pack to take with you? What do you really need for a journey into the unknown?

Write sentences to explain why you would bring the equipment you have chosen.

E.G. A torch because I might find myself in a gloomy jungle and need to see where I was going.

Reading Choice Activity Grid

Here is a grid of ideas/activities for you to try out when reading at home. Have fun with them!

Thursday

So far this week you have researched information about explorers and discovered facts about their personalities and

their lives. Yesterday you decided what qualities an adventurer or explorer needs and the equipment you would take

with you on an expedition to South America. Today you are going to create an advert for an adventurer to join you

on your expedition. What is an advert? Look at the example below.

What is included in the advert? Look at the different sections. The advert is created in a way to draw people in and

make them keen to apply for the job. Remember when you create your advert for an adventurer to make it colourful

and bold to attract people to join you on your expedition. Include information about the role, the tasks they will be

expected to do and in the must be section, the qualities you are looking for. You can use the template below if you

would like. Good luck!

Amazing Animals

As you prepare for your expedition to South America, today you are going to create a poster about a rainforest

habitat which you may discover on your journey.

Firstly, let’s recap “What is a habitat?” Watch this video clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrSWYE37MJs and

think about:-

• What is a habitat?

• What must a habitat provide for the animals?

Now look at the information about a Rainforest Habitat:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zx882hv/articles/zxdsvcw

Use this information to create your poster. You may decide to use the internet to explore rainforests further.

Make sure your poster has:

• An eye-catching bold title

• Sub-headings

• Use punctuation (Capital letters, full stops, ?, !)

• Includes drawings/diagrams

Friday pm

Computing/Art

Using the Purple Mash website, to create a picture of the rainforest and animals you may discover there.

On the home page go to the Art section, then click on 2 Paint a Picture . Here you will find a variety of tools

to create your artwork. Remember to save your work by clicking on the Purple box in the left hand corner and

choosing save. This will take you to your own folder of work.

Alternatively, you may decide to create your Rainforest picture as a collage using a variety of art materials. Or you

may be even more adventurous and create a 3D model of the Rainforest.
