Pastor's NotesAdvancing God's Love and JusticeGreeting friends,The chairs are here! With so much gratitude to Mary B. Wangerin, whosebequest covered half the cost, and to all of you who contributed the rest, I amso happy to tell you the new Community Room chairs have arrived!

We now have 100 chairs, which is over 25% more than we used to have. Thiswill allow us to seat more people for potlucks, and special events. They alsostack better, reducing the risk of collapsing chairs, and as new chairs, theyhopefully won’t fall apart under any of us, the way the brown chairs have onceor twice.

That said, the brown chairs have been inspected, and those which are still in

useable condition are going down to the Clark Rooms to replace the black andgold chairs which are falling apart. This will allow us to be more hospitable toAlanon, Youth Outlook, CAN, SMART Recovery and all others using thatspace. Some of them will also go upstairs into our upper elementaryclassroom.

I know some of you were initially surprised by the request for donations onthis, but your overwhelming response has once again showed how committedthis congregation is to each other, and to providing a welcoming space indowntown Naperville.

Grace and peace,Mark

Coffee Hour Hosts NeededRight now, we have no one signed up for Coffee Hour this Sunday,

September 8. We would hate to have Coffee Hour cancelled, soplease consider signing up if you are able:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e44a8ac2ba13-2019

Everyone loves to get together, catch up, and share coffee and treats, butin order to make that happen, we need hosts. It's not difficult, and detailed

instructions are available (if you're nervous, just make a note in thecomments that you'd like some help, and we will be sure someone is onhand to provide backup!). Coffee and juice are provided, and bringing

treats to share is optional. It doesn't take a lot of effort, so please considersigning up at least once this year.

Three slots are available every Sunday so that individuals can choose toshare hosting duties. However, if your family is able to handle it alone, justchoose "3" under slots to fill after you choose your date and submit, and

you can take all available slots.

Thank you!

Our 2019 PICK-A-PARTY List of Parties!

We want to help you fill your social calendar with wonderful parties andactivities to enjoy the fellowship of church friends while supporting our Missionsand Social Action fund.

We invite you to look over the list of parties and activities so you can prioritizeyour choices. As you can see, there are many wonderful and unique eventsbeing offered. We have parties to fit any budget. Some are less expensive, while others are much grander affairs and therefore cost more. Because this ismeant to build community more than raise funds, the prices aresuggested donations – you can pay more or less, whatever works foryou.

On Sunday, September 15, 10 minutes after the worship service, we willdrop the ribbon in the Community Room during fellowship time and leteveryone walk around the room signing up for the parties of their choice. Sign-ups are first-come, first-serve.

After you make your selections, you will “cash out” with one of our cashiers.Bring your checkbook or cash that day – however, we will accept IOUs. Or youcan bring your smartphone and pay online!

If you can’t come to church on September 15, you can use a proxy. Justarrange with another church friend to do your party-picking for you.

Certificates will be given to you (when you pay) that will include precise addressinformation for the parties you purchased.

Note that you are not expected to buy the entire party or event. Rather, youonly purchase the number of spots you would like to reserve. For example, ifyou want to attend a party with your spouse or friend, then you buy two spots tothe event. If you plan to attend by yourself, then you buy only one spot. Eachparty has a limited number of spots available for purchase. IMPORTANT – writeonly one name per line on the sign-up sheet per person (use two lines for “MaryDoe” and “John Doe” - don’t write “Mary and John Doe” on one line). We needto use the lines to count the number of people signed up.

Waiting List: Each party will have a waiting list. If desired, please add yourname; however, we won’t collect your money if your name is on the waiting list.Should there be an opening, the host will contact you and make arrangementsto collect your payment.

Second Chance: Any parties not completely sold out will be offered again onSunday September 22 after worship. Most of the parties, however, may be soldout by then.

We hope you will join us on Sunday, September 15!

Sincerely,Lori Bush Shepard and the Community Life Ministry

Faith in Action describes what we do at FCC.

The Stewardship Ministry invites you to thinkabout all the ways we collectively put our faith

into action and what those actions particularly mean to you.

It was a rather warm day for February as Iwas doing the usual morning dog walk. As Ineared home, I noticed that one square ofthe sidewalk was darker than the others. The next thing I knew, I was flat on theground and my wrist was in pain. I tried toget up, but found the pain was too great. At7:00 a.m., I saw no one about. I struggled togo home one painful step at a time. Abouthalf a block later, some wonderful collegestudent helped me home.

Resting at home brought no relief. I finallycalled Barb at church. She came and tookme to the hospital where I was x-rayed. It

was confirmed that I had broken my right wrist (my dominant hand).Barb immediately called Community Life and meals and helpers with dogwalks came rushing over and continued through my surgery. The love andsupport of this community is overwhelming.

My wrist healed long ago and I have forgotten the pain, but I will neverforget the outpouring of love from our church community. ~ Anne Swanson

Green Team TipSave Your Bread Tags! It takes more than 260,000 bread tagsto purchase one wheelchair, but you can help do that by savingthe plastic tags that come with loaves of bread. It took Scarce

more than two years to collect that many tags, but this summer, a 3-year-oldreceived his own chair! Bring your tags and put them in the Bread Tagcollection jar in the Community Room kitchen.

wasn’t sure if it was done well enough. My friend said to me, ‘Carol, thesechildren have NOTHING, so yours is just fine.”
