(Sunday School classes and Adult Bible Study are not held on Easter Sunday.)

Dear Beloved Members and Friends,We celebrate Easter Sunday on April Sixteenth. For Christians, Easter is our day to celebrate our Lord’s resurrection. Easter is our day to rejoice and sing and shout alleluias. We celebrate by wearing our Easter Sunday best church clothes. We celebrate by singing beloved Easter hymns and liturgy. We joyfully worship by speaking liturgy and prayers. We rejoice by giving cheerful offerings. We celebrate by serving and receiving our risen Lord’s Supper. We have good reasons to celebrate. Christ has risen from the dead just as He said. Jesus is with us.

Jesus was not there in the tomb. Christ had risen just as He said. Jesus’ Spirit returned to His body. Jesus’ body came alive. Christ’s body became glorified. Jesus will never die again. Jesus got up from the place where He was lying in the tomb. The risen Christ departed from the tomb and left it empty. Jesus had said, “on the third day He will be raised to life” (Matt. 20:19). On the third day Christ was raised to life. Jesus kept His promise.

Let us go and tell Jesus’ disciples that He has risen from the dead and has gone ahead of us to heaven. You are a disciple of Christ by Holy Baptism, by faith in Him and by learning His Word. Jesus opens your minds so that you can understand the Scriptures. Christ tells you that repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations beginning at Jerusalem. Jesus ascended into heaven. Christ is preparing a place for you in heaven. Our risen Lord will come back and take you to be with Him that you also may be where He is in heaven. Our Lord hears and answers your prayers in heaven. You will see Jesus in heaven.PASTOR’S LETTER

Page 2: “This is - c · Web viewWe spent our money wisely purchasing the beautiful piano, the Gathering Hall furniture, pew candles, ... where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:54b-55)

Let us joyfully tell people the good news of Jesus’ resurrection and ascension. We are filled with the joy of our risen Christ. The joy of our risen Lord is our strength. Let us tell fellow disciples that Jesus has risen from the dead and is going ahead of us into heaven.

We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper during five Divine Services in April. Our risen Lord will be with you in His Supper to bless you. Jesus will give you His body in the bread you will eat. The risen Christ will pour out His blood in the fruit of the vine you will drink. Our risen Lord will bless you with forgiveness of sins, life, salvation, love, joy, and peace in His feast of love.

Our risen Lord is with us as we fulfill His Great Commission. Tell people the good news about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Bring folks to the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Teach others everything Christ has commanded us. Our risen Lord is with us to bless our efforts to make disciples for Him. Jesus is with you always to bless you in every good work of faith.

May our risen Lord bless you and your family this month of April and always!

Sincerely Yours in the risen Christ,Pastor Terry Nelson

WOMEN’S OUTREACH1998 – A group of ladies had a meeting and that was the beginning of Women’s Outreach. Over the years it was fun working together planning activities and fund raisers. There were yearly bazaars, bake sales, always a big flower sale in May and rummage sales. Also, ice cream socials, pancake breakfasts, Lenten dinners, Easter breakfasts. Along with the fun and fellowship, the ladies made money. We spent our money wisely purchasing the beautiful piano, the Gathering Hall furniture, pew candles, altar cushions, new paraments and banners, and 100 chairs. Several years ago, Women’s Outreach began to fade. The last couple of years there have been no activities.

WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP2017 – There is discussion; we need a women’s group. Eight ladies responded to our invite, and we enjoyed lunch, visiting and planning. We agreed on “Women’s Fellowship” and thank Patty Wadkins and Lynda Whitcher for co-chairing our new group. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, April 5, at 11 a.m., in the Conference room. Then we will enjoy lunch and fellowship at the Java House in South Lyon. All ladies are invited to join us. Our first activity as a new group will be A Maundy Thursday Dinner at 6 p.m. We need each of you to make Women’s Fellowship a successful group, so please join us!LWML SPRING RALLY

Page 5: “This is - c · Web viewWe spent our money wisely purchasing the beautiful piano, the Gathering Hall furniture, pew candles, ... where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:54b-55)

GOD AS SHOWN THROUGH HIS SON, WE ARE EMPOWERED BY HIS SPIRIT TO LOVE AS WE HAVE BEEN LOVED.

“This is My commandment, that you love oneanother as I have loved you” (John 15:12).

STEWARDSHIP CORNEROur Victory in Christ

Some chapters in the Bible speak so directly to a specific topic that they have been given names, such as the “Faith” chapter (Hebrews 11), the “Shepherd’s Psalm (Psalm 23), and the “Resurrection” chapter (1 Corinthians 15), the one this article will focus on.

Perhaps the Corinthians were like us, wondering what would happen at the end of their earthly lives. Then, as now, all sorts of theories abounded. Is death the end? If not, will I have a body? What will my body look like? St. Paul quoted a couple of their questions in 1 Corinthians 15:35: “But some will ask, ‘How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” Paul called those questioners foolish and gave them (and us) the straight story. “So it is with the Resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body…Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of Heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 49).

The end result for believers is that

“Death is swallowed up in victory.”“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:54b-55)

So, for us who are in Christ, there is no need to wonder or to fear. Because of Easter, because of our Lord’s Resurrection, we also are victorious over sin, death, and the power of the devil. With the Apostle Paul and all the saints, we exclaim, “But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:5)!

And there is a response expected from us as we celebrate our victory in Christ: “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

MISSIONARIES TO MACAUBarbara and I want to thank you for your prayers and support. We continue to wait for our visa so that we may move to Macau. Continue to pray that it comes soon. We also are in need of financial support. Please pray that we continue to expand our partners in the Gospel network.  We are eager to be the hands and voices of our partners sharing the love of Christ with those who have not yet heard about Jesus.

Please feel free to email us at [email protected] with any thoughts, prayers, questions or concerns you may have. May we be blessed as we journey through Lent to Calvary and

then to the empty tomb at Easter. I know my Redeemer lives.Peace be with you,Your Servants in Christ,David and Barbara Bush, Director, Concordia English Center, Macau, China
