The Feast of the Presentation of the LordForty days after His Nativity, to fulfill Jewish Law, Jesus was brought to the Temple in Jerusalem. In remembrance of the candles that were lit at the Temple and to remind us that Christ is the Light of the World, it is customary to bless candles for this feast. For this reason, it is also known as Candlemas If you have candles you would liked blessed, please bring them to either vespers on February 14 or Divine Liturgy on February 15. Merry Candlemas!

House Blessings 2019

House Blessing season has begun and lasts until the beginning of Great Lent, March 11. Please schedule an appointment with Fr. Nick so that he can come and bless your house with the newly blessed Theophany water. This is also a great time to get to know your priest better and for him to know you better, so keep your calendars open!

Preparing Your Home for Blessing

• Your home does NOT have to be spotless, but should be free of clutter on the floor, like toys, which may cause Father to trip.

• A table should be prepared with a white tablecloth, an icon or cross, a candle and an empty bowl (Father will bring the holy water).

• A list of names of those you want Father to pray for during the serviceIf you have any items (icons, crosses, etc) that you would like blessed, place them on the table also and let Father know and he will bless them for you.

• Turn off all radios and TVs. Take the phone off the hook during the short blessing service. Cell phones should be turned to silent. Just remember to place your phone back on the hook at the end!

• Close all doors to rooms you do NOT want Father to enter — open the doors to the rooms you do want Father to enter.

• A family member should lead Father through the house. This can be done by your children, if you have any, girls or boys.

• If you have a pet, they may also receive a blessing.

I look forward to visiting each and everyone of you during this special Theophany season!

“When are we living in Christ? When we live according to His Gospel and His Church. For He Himself, and not only His Gospel, is in the Church with all of His perfections and virtues. The Church is the eternally living Body of the God-man Christ. In her we find the medium of the holy mysteries. In her we find the means of holy good deeds. Our Lord Jesus Christ abides inseparable from the Church in this world. He abides with each member of the Church throughout all ages. He has His entire self for us in the Church, and continually gives Himself to us entirely, so that we might be enabled to live in this world as He lived.”—St. Justin Popovich

“Consider that the Holy Spirit lives in the spiritual father, and He will tell you what to do. But if you think that the spiritual father live negligently, and that the Holy Spirit can't live in him, you will suffer mightily for such a thought, and the Lord will humble you, and you will straightway fall into delusion.”—St. Silouan the Athonite

“If a man does not tell everything to his spiritual father, then his path is crooked and does not lead to the Kingdom of Heaven. But the path of one who tells everything leads directly to the Kingdom of Heaven.”—St. Silouan the Athonite

“One week before the Triodion [the Lenten hymnal] enters into use, there is a Sunday Gospel reading which looks forward directly to the coming fast …describing how Zacchaeus climbed a tree beside the road where Christ was to pass. In this reading we note Zacchaeus’ sense of eager expectation, the intensity of his desire to see our Lord, and we apply this to ourselves. If, as we prepare for Lent, there is real eagerness in our hearts, if we have an intense desire for a clearer vision of Christ, then our hopes will be fulfilled during the fast; indeed, we shall, like Zacchaeus, receive far more than we expect.”—Bishop Kallistos Ware
