Please join us in reciting the Rosary every morning (Mon-Sat) at 7:35am before daily Mass. It’s a beautiful and spiritual way to start your day. Every day following weekday Mass, we invite you to join us for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Prayers usually start approximately 5-10 minutes after Mass (around 8:40am). If you can’t join us, you can join the Divine Mercy on EWTN television channel at noon.

Dear Sisters and Brothers, Fr. Michael Grieco will begin his new assignment as a Priest Minister/Associate Pastor at Holy Redeemer Church, Montrose, and St. James the Less, La Crescenta effective July 1, 2019. We have been blessed with his presence and ministry for the past 12 months. He has enriched us with his words of wisdom and service. He particularly impacted our children in the parish and school with his simplified stories and humors. Our children certainly looked forward to seeing him celebrate Mass. And, our parishioners wished hearing his homily, and chat with him at social events and occasions. On behalf of all our parishioners, I express my appreciation for him. Kindly keep him in your prayers as he moves on to assume his new assignment. May God bless him with peace and good health! In Christ, Fr. Antony Gaspar Pastor

L.A. ARCHDIOCESE NEWS OPPOSE SB 360 BILL Archbishop Jose Gomez’s statement on Amendments to California “Confession Bill”

I have been studying the amendments made to SB 360 by the Senate Appropriations Committee... I am grateful that Senators heard the voice of the Catholic people — who understand that confession is a sacred space, an intimate dialogue between the believer and the living God. We know that no government, for whatever reason, should violate the privacy and confidentiality of that sacred conversation. And while I appreciate that the committee accepted several of the Church’s recommendations to strengthen mandated reporting requirements for clergy, as amended SB 360 still denies the sanctity of confession to every priest in the state and to thousands of Catholics who work with priests in parishes and other Church agencies and ministries. Even as amended, SB 360 remains an unacceptable violation of our religious freedoms that will do nothing to protect children. As a Catholic community, let us continue to work with lawmakers for a bill that truly advances our shared goals of fighting the scourge of child sexual abuse in our society.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN WHAT RISKS ARE WORTH IT? In today’s society, parents are often torn between protecting their children, and letting them experience life and even make mistakes. Safety is vitally important, but there is value in learning from experience and from mistakes, too. There may be times when parents wonder if they have gone too far in their efforts to safeguard children, perhaps inadvertently rendering them children less prepared to handle real-life situations, For help in discerning when learning from experience may be appropriate see the VIRTUS® article “Safety vs. Resilience in Childhood.” For more information, visit http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx.
