It was great to see the staff work alongside their neighbouring colleagues and develop a collegial approach to learning and growing with the explicit intent of improving student outcomes. During the twilight professional learning session the staff developed their understanding of two main focus areas. The first of these was Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). This is an evidence-based whole school process that aims to improve learning outcomes for all students. The PBL approach will be gradually phased into Thirlmere PS and will take approximately 3 years to completely implement. When the PBL system is fully implemented we aim that: •Students will respond positively as they have been taught what is expected of them •Staff deliver consistent responses to student learning and behaviour •Students feel safe and cared for at school •Unproductive and challenging behaviour is significantly reduced for most students. Five staff members are being trained in the PBL system and we will begin implementing the core values of PBL into TPS over the next 12 months. The second main focus of the professional learning session involved both schools critically assessing their achievements against the School Excellence Framework and identifying areas for change. This process will allow us to have a description of the quality practices we need to undertake and will form the basis of future school planning. This process is also part of our critical reflection that needs to occur before the school takes part in our external validation in term 3. Pirates and Princesses Day I was very disappointed at not being able to attend the “Pirates and Princesses” day with Kindergarten on Wednesday. I know students and parents thoroughly enjoyed the day, with students parading in their costumes, attending the ball and taking part in the festivities. This event linked in with Kindergarten’s literature study and engaged the student’s imagination and connected them to their learning. Congratulations to the students, teachers and parents who helped make this such a successful event.

Buddy Seat

I see quite a few students sitting on the Buddy Seat waiting for someone to come and talk to them or ask them to play. It’s lovely to see our students showing such care and friendliness towards each other.

Kind regards Lisa Whitfield
