Referring to various other Church documents, the pope highlighted the sacred nature of Scripture, its embracing of the Old and New Testaments, including the inter-generational transmission of the Good News, its significance in the life of the Church as well as its performative characteristic, particularly through the lit- urgy. I would also like to point out that Jesus is the fulfilment of all that was prophesied, for He is the Word of God. As evident from the cited verse, there is a constant back-and-forth between the various books that comprise the Bible. In spite of this interweb within the Scripture, it is not closed off for the Holy Spir- it offers the reader a fresh insight each time, along with the promise of eternal life, thereby reflecting its dynamic perpetuity. For instance, the process of writing my weekly reflection often leads to a state of writer s block. In such moments the Spirit provides inspiration through a brief research, clues in a conversation, and sometimes even through my own emotional and spiritual state. With the cycle of readings for Mass being repeated every three years, it is quite hard to come up with fresh material to reflect on, but the Holy Spirit never fails in illuminating what needs my attention during that particular week; the same goes for homi- lies, Lectio divina etc. In this weekends Gospel passage, we find that Jesus called His disciples to be fishers of people”. Our own sense of duty and ministry can- not be effective if the Word of God is not taken into consideration. Even then, one could engage with it all the time and not begin to understand the mystery of Gods words unless the Spirit acts upon it. As we honour the Sunday of the Word of God”, let us allow ourselves some extra time to read, reflect and seek the divine assistance in understanding the Scripture. I would also suggest a read of Aperuit Illis itself.
