Shelter
The Gabrielenos shelter was made out of willow, branches and tule rushes. First, the willow poles are stuck into the ground to form a circle. Second, the poles are tied at the top with yucca fibers. Third, the other poles are tied around the upright frame and a hole is left for the smoke. Also an opening is left for the door. Then the layers of tule rushes covered the frame. An animal skin or a woven mat covers the door.
Food
The Gabrielenos worked very hard to get their food. They hunted deer, rats, rabbits, fish, buffalo, and snakes.They also ate plants.They ate the meat and saved the skin.
Food
The Gabrielenos also fished from the ocean, lakes, and rivers to catch catfish, lobsters, trout, shellfish, crab, shrimp and bass. The Gabrielenos hunted small and large animals with bows and arrows.
Hunting and Fishing
Hunting and fishing were very important to the Gabrielenos. Men and boys spent most of their time making tools for hunting and fishing.The men used bows and arrows to hunt and boys used wooden arrows to hunt.
Tools
The Gabrielenos used plants, animals, shells, and stones to make tools. Sharp stones and shells could be made into arrowheads. They used stone mortar and pestle, wooden stirrers, and parching trays for cooking. They used throwing sticks, fish hooks, and spears. The Gabrielenos used these important tools to make their lives easier.

Clothing
The Gabrielenos of the past wore different clothing than they do today. They wore capes, skirts, and sandals. They made their clothing from animals skins. The skin of deer was one of these animals. The Gabrielenos today dress like everybody else.
