3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 for steel should be installed by trained and certified 3M authorized applicators.

3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 is listed by independent test agencies such as ULC and UL and is tested to,and passes the criteria of, Standard “Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, “CAN/ULC-S101-07 Edition (ANSI/UL263 – 13TH Edition, ASTM E119-2000 Edition).

3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 for steel must be stored indoor in dry conditions between 10˚C and 40˚C.

Protect from frost and freezing, excessive heat and strong radiant sunlight. Not intended for exterior applications.

Comply with manufacturing recommendations for temperature and humidity conditions before, during and after installation offireproofing. Refer to section 9. Application Rates & Conditions

Shelf Life

3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 shelf life is 6 months in original unopened containers from date of packagingwhen stored above 10˚C (50˚F).

Lot numbering: First digit = last digit of yearSecond to fourth digit = 3 digit day of the year (from 001 to 365/366)Fifth indicator = dash symbol (-)Sixth to eighth = batch # (may only be 1 or 2 digits long)

3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 for steel should be installed with an Airless spray pump such as SpraytechEP2355 or Graco 1595 / Ultra Max 795 or brush. All surfaces receiving the 3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 forsteel should be thoroughly cleaned of oil, grease, dirt, loose paint, loose mill scale and any other matter that will impair bond.

Existing Conditions:

(1) Verify existing conditions and substrates before starting work. Correct unsatisfactory conditions before proceeding.

(2) Proceed with installation only after steel components are primed with compatible recommended primer. *Refer to section 8. Primers

Provide masking and drop cloths to prevent contamination of adjacent surfaces by fireproofing material.

General instructions for installing 3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 for steel include confirmation of primer compatibility such as recommended Alkyd and Epoxy primers to receive 3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000.

Note: Primers containing zinc metal are generally not recommended.

Apply 3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 only to primed surfaces. Site conditions and end-use may dictate spe-cific primer specifications. Follow primer manufacturer’s instructions.

Refer to the 3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 fire test design information to determine the minimum dry filmthickness required for the size and orientation of steel element to be protected and for the required fire resistance rating.

3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 should be applied in sufficient wet film thicknesses to achieve the required fireresistive rating with as many passes as necessary, to attain required (DFT) dry film thickness.

3M™ FireDam™ Intumescent Coating WB 1000 should not be applied when relative humidity exceeds 80% or the surface tobe coated is less than 3˚C above the dewpoint. The product is recommended to be applied only when temperatures are above10˚C or 50˚F.

To ensure an even coating thickness, the desired thickness should be achieved by the application of successive coats of no more than 500 microns dft (760 microns wft) per coat. Apply in sufficient thickness to achieve rating to uniform density and texture.

The completed dry film thickness should be checked to ensure the required thickness has been applied.

When multiple coats of 3M™ FireDam™ Intumescent Coating WB 1000 are required to achieve the prescribed dry film thickness, adequate drying time between the coats should be allowed. At 20˚C the minimum overcoating time is typically 4-6 hours. (The time will vary depending upon the prevailing temperature, relative humidity, air movement and thickness of material applied).

A compatible topcoat with 3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 is recommended for all installations, in order to givethe desired colour. All topcoats should be applied in accordance with the topcoat manufacturer’s recommendations.

Either acrylic or silicone alkyd paint to match surroundings are recommended.

Ensure the 3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 is thoroughly dry before application of topcoat.

Follow approved working practices. Wear government approved respirators and proper clothing, reading all warning labels, andfollow instruction on the MSDS.

No maintenance is required when installed in accordance with the 3M installation manual. Once installed, if any section of the3MTM FireDamTM Intumescent Coating WB 1000 is damaged, the damaged section should be repaired (touched up) by a 3Mtrained and certified applicator.
