The ICS Class of 2029---what a future they have in store!

Page 4: Think we had a successful year? To God we give the glory!

A BIGGER AND BETTER FUTURE was the title of a teacher and staff workshop this week on

Wednesday. Tony Romero, of Floyd Consulting, a subsidiary of the Catholic writer Matthew

Kelly, did a great job reminding us that “normal” is a vapor and mind created. There really is no

“normal”. It’s a “black cat in a dark room that’s not there.” The only easy day was yesterday.

He reminded us that pain tolerance goes way up when the burden is shared and how we need

to become the best versions of ourselves. Only humans dream and dreaming yields

engagement. 71% of Americans are disengaged in their jobs.(Teachers are only 70%

disengaged.) And as we all suspect, 6.8% of the population provides 80% of volunteer hours

and donations. Dreams are bigger than goals. They speak to our hearts. Without dreaming we

lose our sense of wonder. Dreams are optimistic. We would never write down dreams of tragic

things happening to us. Dreaming leads to being strategic. Dreams remind us that we believe

the future can be better than the present and that we have an influence and some control over

it. Dreams are about walls that need to fall. Dreams are planning about the intentional. We

belong to a Church that has fed more people, clothed more people, housed more people, cared

for more people and taught more people than any other institution in the history of the world.

We can be proud and a part of this dream of a better life for all. And maybe, I should have an

“intentional retirement?”

THE WEEKEND SCRIPTURES: I love Romans 8 where we are reminded of the spirit of

adoption and call God “Abba” which is literally “Daddy”. Our God is about relationships. If you

have a good Dad in your life, you can understand God a little better. If you don’t, then you must

seek that spiritual Dad who will fill that hole in your heart. Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI, reminds us

that the greatest hunger we have is “father hunger”. We want to be acknowledged and loved by

our Dads. Fatherhood does not come with a book. Many Dads don’t live up to their duty simply

because they either lacked a good Father figure in their life or feel inadequate themselves. As a

Dad myself, I often think about the times I wasn’t there for my own daughters but in my

humanity, I have to forgive myself and move and improve as a Dad. I know it isn’t Father’s Day

yet but Dads need to hear they are loved. In this week’s Gospel from Matthew 28, we receive

the mandate to “Go and teach all nations.” This is everyone’s job. Not just the priest or

religious or the naturally holy people. It is ours. We do it by how we live and the good example

we set and being a good mother or father first and then helping our circle of people we come in

Page 8: Think we had a successful year? To God we give the glory!

contact with. We baptize by how we live out the Gospels. Come hear Fr. Carl and Fr. Nick

break open the Word this weekend. And then live it!

Principal PS The Day they murdered God is called Good Friday. Think about it. No cross, no crown, no pain, no gain. The seed has to die to itself to become new life! And yes, there is “Good Grief!” Prayer of Peace for Fr. Gary Hogan, C.R.

Jesus, Prince of Peace, we pray urgently for Your peaceful touch on Fr. Gary.

His mind has been anxious and his body tired from terminal cancer.

Please replace these ungodly feelings and bring him unwavering peace.

May he find comfort streaming through his body and mind.

May he feel peaceful as he tackles the challenges and fears of today and tomorrow.

As he approaches the day where he meets You and finds the joys of the Resurrection,

please center his entire heart in a peaceful place.

We ask this so confidently, in the goodness of the Resurrection.

In Your compassionate and holy name, Amen.
