Dear brothers and sisters,

Happy solemnity of the Epiphany! Today is a day of great joy and celebration, as we contemplate the glory of Christ, hidden in his humility, yet revealed for those who are humble.

The magi came from afar to see the newborn King. There are many details of this narrative that remain unknown to us. But, among those that we know, one aspect of their story appears particularly salient: they were overjoyed when they saw the star. “Overjoyed”… if we look carefully at the original text of the Gospel, a more literal translation would read: they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. These words are so rich! They sound redundant and even clumsy, but they express what words cannot ex-press: the unique joy of knowing that all the promises are being fulfilled, that the long centuries of expectation are reaching their fulfillment, that all evil and suffering are going to be overcome in the coming of the Divine Child.

For us, the star also brings good news. Our own prob-lems find an answer; our sins, redemption; our hopes, fulfillment. It is true: God becomes one of us, He be-comes our brother, He comes to redeem our lives. Hope is real, and thus, joy is overwhelming: we too, should rejoice exceedingly with great joy, for we have seen his glory, the glory of his Epiphany.

With my prayers,

Parish Patronal Feast The Holy Name of Jesus—January 3

The name that is above every other name! Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-12

Thank You! I am grateful to all who have made our Christmas cele-brations so beautiful. The parish has been blessed by your generous gift of time and talent—the choirs, the altar servers, lectors, ushers and those who decorated the church—as well as the Knights for the breakfast for religious ed children and their families, the Fraternas for organizing the Christmas caroling, the Hearts of the Knights for the Senior holiday luncheon, and for your many acts of charity to those in need. All around, we have enjoyed a very blessed Christmas!

Altar Flowers Have you noticed the many beautiful floral arrangements we have had this year? We are grateful to Sherry Pierce for the special attention she has given to our requests, in many cases donating a portion of the costs and her time. These classes satisfy the requirement for baptisms in the Arch-diocese of Denver. Sign-up by the Friday before class by email to Deacon Don.

Farewell Message from Brother Mel Due to a fire in the Brothers' house at Mullen, our small community of three brothers (Bro. Charles Miller, Bro. Thomas Daigle and I) were sent to Saint Michael's High School in Santa Fe. This makes us very happy since now we are thirteen brothers and have a much richer spiritual and ap-ostolic life. Although I won't be able to go fishing much anymore, I would rather fish for souls (to which Jesus taught St. Peter the art thereof). I now make "Wrist Ro-saries" – I ask the recipients to take a pledge to wear it 24/7...it’s a practical way to win salvation for themselves and others. We Brothers will be in Denver Jan. 4-7 to pick up all our personal belongings and some general things we had in the brothers' house that will be of practi-cal use here in Santa Fe. Note: We are trying to arrange a time to have coffee and pastries with Bro Mel when he is in town this week.

Gifts of Christmas in our Parish Family It’s hard to acknowledge all the generosity expressed within the parish during the Christmas season. Families called the office to offer to help other families – we re-ferred some to the Fr. Ed Judy House and others to fami-lies we know through St. Vincent de Paul Society. Just before Christmas we received word that parishioners at St. Anthony parish had collected a surplus of gifts for families in need. They were willing to share them with families in our parish – and delivered gifts and boxes of food to about 10 families. Three days later a stranger came to the office with eight beautiful, handmade baby blankets to be distributed through our St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Knights provided gifts for dozens of families in the religious education program, as well as a fine breakfast Sunday morning. The Yarners brought 30 knit hats to the Fr. Ed Judy Christmas party. Boxes overflow-ing with mittens, socks and gloves have been sent to the homeless via Christ in the City. Through all these days of preparation and anticipation, we especially come to see our parish as a parish family, willing to make sure that all share in the happiness of Christmas. Gloria in excelsis Deo!

Mandation of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The 71 parishioners who have accepted the responsibility of serving at the liturgy or bringing Holy Communion to homebound parishioners and to the nine nursing facilities within our parish boundaries have now been mandated by the archbishop for this ministry. The mandation was for-mally recognized at all Masses this weekend. We thank them for their service and trust that the Lord will bless them abundantly. If you would like to assist the parish in this ministry, please contact Deacon Don.

March for Life—Denver Saturday, January 16
