    Warrant ofarrest issued

    against Koh Kim Teck

    Four robbers shot deadSEREMBAN: Four robbers,believed to be Indonesians, wereshot dead when they attackedpolice with machetes and firedshots from a revolver at a tun-nel beneath the North-SouthExpressway at Km276.3, earlyyesterday.

    Negeri Sembilan policechief Datuk Osman Salleh saidbefore the 5.20am incident, thefour men who were in a ProtonAeroback with plate numberWJP5728 were stopped by policeon an anti-crime operation in theLabu area.

    When our men got out of

    the patrol cars, the suspectssuddenly sped off towards Nilaiand entered a quarry road beforecrashing into the tunnel at aSime Darby plantation, he toldreporters here yesterday.

    He said as the suspects gotout of their car, one of them firedtwo shots from a .38 revolverbut did not hit the target as therevolver was faulty.

    Police returned fire, killingthe suspects, and found two longmachetes, a sickle-like weapon,a .38 revolver and a crowbar atthe scene of the incident.

    Osman said the robbers hadbeen targeting isolated homes inthe Malay settlements of Labuand Nilai.

    He said that on Aug 21 atabout 1.45am, the robbers hadfled with cash, a computer,handphone and watch, all valuedat RM5,000, from a house and40 minutes later, they robbedanother house of items worthRM1,500.

    The car they had beendriving around is also believedto have been stolen from thecommercial area of Terminal 2,here.

    Meanwhile, state CID chiefACP Mohd Zaki Masroh saida patron at the Bistro R n R inLukut was slightly injured whena man fired a shot in a robbery at1am yesterday at the outlet.

    The other patrons and thebistro owner were, however,unhurt in the incident.

    Police are looking for threemen involved in the robberywhere they escaped with cash,a Rolex watch and handphones,all worth RM40,000, belongingto the bistro owner and patrons. Bernama

    PUTRAJAYA: A warrant of arrestwas issued against businessman KohKim Teck by the Court of Appeal hereyesterday after he failed to turn up forthe prosecutions appeal against hisacquittal from a charge of murderinga 13-year-old Chinese boy.

    Justice Datuk Suriyadi Halim Omar,who led the panel comprising DatukSulaiman Daud and Datuk Jeffrey TanKok Wha, granted the prosecutionsapplication for the warrant.

    The prosecution is appealingagainst the acquittal of Koh, 58, andhis two bodyguards, Resty Agpalo andMohamad Najib Zulkifli, of murderingXu Jian Huang in a bungalow at Jalan

    Mengkuang, off Jalan Ampang, KualaLumpur, between 11pm on Sept 26,2004 and 3.30pm the following day.

    In September 2005, Koh, Resty,and Mohamad Najib, were acquittedand discharged by the Kuala LumpurHigh Court without their defence be-ing called.

    The prosecutions appeal has been

    postponed more than four timesbecause of Kohs absence. Resty, 40and Mohamad Najib, 32, who wererepresented by counsel Gobind SinghDeo, were present.

    The prosecution had previouslyapplied for a warrant of arrest againstKoh but was advised by the court toproduce the needed affidavits andexhibits to support the application.

    Deputy public prosecutor AwangArmadajaya Awang Mahmud submit-ted that the validity of the medicalcertificate tendered to court duringthe last hearing was doubtful becausethere were no records of Kohs admis-sion and discharge from the Lian Tang

    Hospital in Shen Zheng City, China, asclaimed.

    The medical leave dated Oct 25,2007, stated that Koh was sufferingfrom rheumatic heart disease and hadhigh blood pressure.

    Awang Armadajaya said there wasno record that a Malaysian had beenadmitted to the hospital at that time

    and the Immigration Departmentsrecords also stated that there was nomovement in Kohs passport.

    When Suriyadi asked who hadtendered the medical certificate, Kohscounsel, Datuk V. Sithambaram,informed the court that he had, andadded that he received it from Kohsfamily.

    He also said that the medicalcertificate was issued by the doctorwho treated Koh and not through thehospital.

    Sithambaram also informed thecourt that Koh had contacted him andsaid he was overseas.

    Asked by Justice Tan why the

    counsel was in court when Koh wasabsent, Sithambaram produced a letterof appointment as Kohs counsel, say-ing that the court had informed himevery time the case came up.

    Labourer changesplea to not guiltyKOTA BARU: A construction

    labourer charged with illegalpossession of an ME 38 pistol and50 bullets yesterday changed hisplea to not guilty and asked to betried at the sessions court here.

    Mohamad Hasiha Shasim, 28,previously pleaded guilty to thetwo charges before Judge DazukiAli who had fixed for the sentenc-ing yesterday.

    Mohamad Hasiha is chargedwith committing the two offencesat a house in Jalan Sultanah Za-inab, here at 11.50pm on Aug 3.

    He is facing a maximum of20 years jail and six strokes ofthe cane, or both, if convictedunder Section 8 of the Firearms(Increased Penalty) Act 1971.

    For the second charge of pos-sessing 50 rounds of 9mm .38blank bullets without a validlicence, he is facing up to seven

    years in jail and a maximum fineof RM10,000 or both, upon con-viction, under the Firearms Act1960.

    Guard foundmurderedKUALA LUMPUR: A securityguard was found dead withfive slash wounds on the backof his head and with his leftarm severed at the wrist, nearthe entrance of a factory inTaman Ehsan, Kepong, here,yesterday morning.

    The body of Ramli Ilyas, 41,was covered in blood when hewas found by a colleague whocame to relieve him of his shiftat around 7.30am.

    Gombak police chief ACPAbdul Rahim Abdullah said po-lice found a parang, believed tohave been used in the incidentat the back entrance.

    Police believe that thevictim, who was from Sabah

    and had worked for a year atthe factory which producesfruit essence, was murderedbetween 4am and 6am, hesaid.

    PETALING JAYA: An elderlyman escaped death when a bankrobber who was making his es-cape with an accomplice openedfire with a revolver at TamanPuchong Prima yesterday.

    The man, who is in his 60s,was driving his car past the HongLeong Bank branch on JalanPrima Utama 5/3 at about 2pmwhen both the robbers dashedout of the bank.

    On seeing the robbers, theman froze and stopped his carwhich blocked the path of thefleeing robbers. This angeredone of the robbers who thenfired a shot at the car. The bulletwent through the windscreenand narrowly missed the driver.

    Subang Jaya police chief ACPZainal Rashid said the robbers

    who wore full-face helmets and

    armed with revolvers had earlierbarged into the bank and opened

    fire into the air before warningabout 10 bank staff and custom-ers to remain quiet.

    He said while a robbersnatched the bank securityguards shotgun and kept watchover him, his accomplice jumpedover the tellers counter andbundled wards of cash estimatedto be RM700,000 into a bag.

    He said both robbers fled fromthe bank and escaped in a greenProton Saga parked nearby afterfiring the gunshot at the eld-erly mans car. They dumped theguards shotgun next to wheretheir car was parked.

    Zainal said police haveretrieved a close-circuit camerarecording and have mounted ahunt for the robbers.
