CONDITIONS OF HOUSING MARKET- an urban market in continuous evolution but

not always capable of responding the growing demands

- loss of attractiveness of residences in the city when compared to the residences in the hinterland

- lack of adequate housing supply due to high

prices inside Piacenza

- a relative shift of population from central areas to peripheral areas characterized by lower housing density

- although the housing production is high, it is not enough to meet the needs of new user profiles with specific characteristics such as medium to low economic conditions, with mobility needs and smaller family size.

- Resident workers

Low prize housing within the city town

• The Romans had planned to construct them after the successful conclusion of the latest war with the Gauls ending in 219 BC.

• In the 13th century, despite unsuccessful wars against Emperor Federick II, Piacenza managed to gain strongholds on the Lombardy shore of the Po River.

• During the Middle Ages the town was ravaged quite a few times, fell under the power of the Germanic invaders and suffered the effects of the war between the Goths and the troops of the Eastern Roman Empire. After being under the rule of Ostrogoths and Byzantines, Piacenza became the administrative center of a Longobard dukedom, but its true recovery started in the ninth century, under the Franks.

• Piacenza paid a high toll for its remarkable participation in the two World Wars

• The beginning of the post-war period for the town. ( ̀28 April 1945)

• The earliest urban settlement may be traced back to the year 218 B.C.
