THIS is not a book on fortune telling, nor doesit deal with anything of a supernatural character.It is a plain statement of the way numbersinfluence your life and your actions.

For centuries, people have known that num-bers possess mysterious properties; but howthose properties could be controlled or used toadvantage has only recently come to light.

In the following pages, the author tells howevery reader may derive interest and benefits byusing numbers intelligently.

CHAPTER I

HOW TO USE NUMEROLOGYNUMEROLOGY is the science of numbers. It is avery old science, dating back to the early days ofthe Egyptians, if not to a time even before then.For reasons unknown, the science became for-gotten during several centuries and it is onlyrecently that its philosophy has been revived inthe popular mind.

During all those dormant years, people cer-

tainly knew that numbers had a force of theirown, for they spoke of the luck brought bythree, the ill-fortune of thirteen and that sevengave some indication that a thing was perfect.There were many other notions about numbers,but the knowledge was unconnected or dis-jointed, and no real use could be made of it.

Thanks to the work of classical and otherstudents, the science has been brought out of its

oblivion and we are now able to apply all that itteaches to the requirements of modern life.

Briefly, the science of numerology claims thateverybody is controlled by his or her ownparticular number and, by using that number, heor she may derive incalculable benefits. More-over, numerology shows that most things in thisworld have their own special number, too.Thus, it is possible to find the relationshipbetween people and things and, having foundthe relationship, to determine whether they areharmonious or antagonistic. And, of course,when this has been done, an individual willknow exactly how to proceed under varyingcircumstances.

This last paragraph may not be as clear to thecasual reader as we would wish, so in order tomake it perfectly simple, it will be useful to takean example or two. First, let us suppose that ona certain day you have an important engagement it may be that you are to be interviewed for a

post or even that you are planning to be marriedon that day. It, of course, may be any event thatis of great importance to you. By means ofnumerology, you will start by finding the num-ber of that particular day and, then, follow thatup by working out, if you have not already doneso, your own special number.

If the two numbers happen to be the same,there is every reason to suppose that what takes

place will be for your good; but if the numbersare different, you will have to consider themcarefully.

It must not be concluded from this that thechances for good fortune are much fewer thanthey are for ill fortune. You may argue that onlyone number can be the same as your own per-sonal number, while several can be different.Numerology is not as simple as that. Not onlyare certain numbers good, as far as you areconcerned, but others are perhaps beneficial,some are adverse and others are merely un-satisfactory. Thus, there are several classes ofnumbers and all have to be considered.

Before we deal with the good and the otherclasses, it will be necessary to explain thatnumerology only recognises the numbers oneto nine, calling them primary numbers andregarding all others as being compound num-bers, which can be reduced to primary numbers.

Thus:

(a) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are primarynumbers.

(b) 10 is a compound number and can beturned into a primary number by adding up thefigures which go to form it. Thus 1 + 0 = 1.Therefore, numerology regards the number 10exactly as if it were 1.

(c) Similarly, 11 is a compound number. Byadding together the figures, you have 2.

(d) To take another number at random, say56, we have 5 + 6 = 11. But as 11 is, itself, acompound number, it is necessary to continuethe addition and 1 + 1 gives 2. Thus, thesignification in numerology attached to 56 is 2.

(e) In the same way 3998 adds up to 29, but2 + 9 is 11; and 1 + 1 is 2. From this it isclear that any number can be resolved into oneof the nine primaries.

Now, as regards the classification of good andbad numbers:

(a) A number that is the same as your ownpersonal number will work for your good.Thus, suppose your own number is 4 and thenumber attached to a date in which you areinterested is also 4; then you may expect what-ever happens on that date to materialise bene-ficially towards you. Just how you arrive atyour own number and the date number will beexplained later on.

(b) A number that vibrates to your own num-ber is, also, advantageous to you. Before youcan determine exactly the extent of the advan-tage, it is necessary to examine the circum-stances which provide the vibrating number.This matter is, also, dealt with fully later on, buthere it will be explained that the number whichvibrates to your own is the figure that has to beadded to your personal number to give a totalof 10.

(c) In addition, there are what is known asattraction numbers. These show some ten-dency to be helpful, but how much they willhelp depends on circumstances.

(d)Lastly, there are numbers that are abso-utely hostile. Thus:

As this number is the same as your own per-sonal number, you may look forward to the bestof chances.

(d) When the numerology number of the day is 4.

Four disagrees with 3, therefore you will pre-are for nothing in the way of good fortune.

(e) When the numerology number of the day is 5.

Five is one of the attraction numbers for 3 andyou will know that forces are at work to helpyou.

(f) When the numerology number of the day is 6.

The same as (e) above.

(g) When the numerology number of the day is 7.

Seven is the vibrating number of 3 and youmay expect to have assistance in procuring what

you require.

(h) When the numerology number of the day is 8.

This will be the same as explained for (d)above.

(i) When the numerology number of the day is 9.

This will be the same as explained for (e)above.

All this, of course, is how a person whosenumber is 3 should reason. The same processwill naturally be employed for any other number,but obviously the results will be different.

CHAPTER II

YOUR PERSONAL NUMBER

AS was explained in the previous chapter,everybody has his or her own personal numberand, no doubt, you are anxious to find out whatyours happens to be. There is really nothingdifficult in translating a name into its number,once the process is known. It depends on thefact that every letter of the alphabet is assigneda numeral value. Here are the values:

From the above, it will be seen that, forreasons already stated, no letter has a highervalue than 9. It will, also, be noted that PH is

represented by 6. This is the only case wheretwo letters have a combined and not a separatevalue. It is easy to see that the reason for thisdepends on an adherence to the Greek alphabetwhich had an individual letter for this sound.

To show how you can use the above table forfinding out your number or that of anybody else,we will take an example. Suppose you want toknow the number that stands for Patricia. First,set down the name thus:

Many people then add up the figures andresolve the answer into a primary number, if theaddition, as in this case, happens to give a com-pound number. This method would providesome sort of answer, but a more accurate plan,and the one we advise, is to resolve the figuringinto the form of an inverted pyramid. Thisshape has, of course, a mysterious influencewhich even the Egyptians appreciated but did notunderstand when they built the famous Pyramids.

This pyramid numbering works out in thepresent instance, as follows:

Thus, Patricias number is 3. Now for theexplanation as to how the pyramid worked.The first line of figures was obtained, as alreadyexplained, by using the alphabet table. Thesecond line was produced by taking the top lineand adding the figures together in pairs. Thus,the 7 and 1 in the top line gave the 8 in thesecond line; the 1 and 2 in the top line gave the3 in the second; and so on, remembering, ofcourse, to resolve compound answers intoprimary figures, whenever necessary. Thus, the2 and 9 in the top line gives 11, which resolvesitself into 2, and becomes the third figure of thesecond line.

When the second line has been completed, athird line is worked in the same way, and this isfollowed by subsequent lines until, at last, onefigure only is reached. Of course, the number oflines needed to resolve a name into a figuredepends on the number of letters in the name.A name such as Ada can be resolved in far fewerlines, as the following shows:

NUMBER ONE

NOW that you know your own personal number,or have the means of finding it, you will beinterested to learn for what it stands. In this andthe eight following chapters, the interpretationsof the nine primary numbers are set out.

Number One is symbolised by the Sun and theDeity, and is regarded as the strongest and mostpowerful number of all. It stands for force,boldness and activity, as well as for powers oforganising and executive ability.

From this, it is clear that people who arefavoured with the personal number of one havethe initial force to make their mark in the world.They have the strength of body and of mind togo ahead and reach the goal they have in view,as long as the way is straight and there areno side-issues to draw them from the mainpurpose.

They are headstrong people and always dotheir best when left to their own devices. Thus,the parents of such individuals must refrain fromcurbing the legitimate enthusiasm of their sons

CHAPTER IV

NUMBER TWO

NUMBER TWO has the Moon for its symbol. Itstands for peace rather than force; for the heartmore than the mind. It betokens quiet, calm, arestful influence and it radiates charm, affectionand honesty.

People who can claim this number as theirown have much about them that is admirable.They will not soar to the heights attained byNumber One, but they will play a very usefulpart in the world, nevertheless. Their missionis to strive along peaceful lines, to help theirneighbours rather than to help themselves.Thus, others often gain where they should reapthe benefits.

It must not be thought that the qualities ofnumber two people will pass unrecognized.Quite the contrary. Friends and others will cometo them for advice and guidance, and, when they

have obtained it, they will go away and use it toadvantage. But the number two people lacksome special quality which precludes them fromusing, to the same extent, their own ideas and

suggestions. Thus, they suffer from reticenceand, often, from a mild form of inferioritycomplex.

Those who can claim two as their own num-ber are remarkably unselfish. They will neverbegrudge the time spent on helping others, andthey have unbounded sympathy for those whoselot is less favourable than their own. As an out-come of this trait, the adult Number Two isusually fond of children. The parent will slavefor his youngsters and go without, cheerfully, inorder that they may not want.

Thus, number two people are good home-makers. To them, the home is the centre of theirown little universe and they are never so happyas when they are reading a book by the firesideor helping the kiddies with their toys. They donot want to gad about; they have no need forclubs and bridge parties; they are happier whenindulging in simple delights than when imbibingthe champagne of life.

Number two people have one outstandingquality which must not be overlooked. They areideal peacemakers. It will fall to their lot, timeand again, to bring those who have grievancesto a more rational frame of mind.

So far, we have been considering the favour-able side of the picture supplied by those whosepersonal number is two. There is, nevertheless,the other point of view. These people have one

glaring fault, which is indolence. It is easy to seewhy they suffer from this defect. They are peace-ful souls; they love calm and quiet; they hatehurry and bustle; therefore what could be morein harmony with these characteristics than atendency to let matters slide? If it requires adisplay of energy to do anything to-day, theprobability is that it will be left till to-morrow, and as we all know, to-morrow nevercomes.

To marry anyone with two as his or her numberwould be to go through life with a very lovablepartner. There would be no calling over thecoals when things went wrong; no cases offlaring-up when faults came to light; lifewould unfold itself placidly. All this, of course,makes for peace and harmony; but it is doubtfulwhether many people would not prefer a partnerwho displayed more fire and a more pugnacioustemperament. It depends entirely on the indi-vidual.

The traits we have mentioned here are thosethat will influence all people with two as theirpersonal number. Environment can play itspart, and to an extent will possibly do so, ineffacing some of the characteristics and bringingothers to the fore. That explains why everybodyhaving two as his or her number is not alike astwo peas.

CHAPTER V

NUMBER THREE

THIS number has Mars for its symbol. It isconsidered to be a joy-giving numeral when usedadvantageously, and a warring figure when thereverse is the case. At best, it is typical of happi-ness, merriment, good cheer, pleasure, inspira-tion, even ecstasy. At worst, it spells quarrels,violence, anguish.

From this, it will be seen that people who havethree as their personal number possess character-istics of two very opposite kinds. The best ofsuch people cleverly combine the two kinds, andstrength rises out of the union. They can befriendly and joyful when the occasion demands,and they can be a powerful foe when attackedby an enemy.

This dual nature has generate a forcefulcharacter. As they can fight or be friends,whichever is needed, it follows that they are

ready to turn from one extreme to the other,without being unduly put out. This trait runsthrough their whole nature and, if one thingfails, they can turn to another and be equally at

People with this number live in a hurry. Theyhave no time for dawdling. Consequently, theymake the most of their chances, because they seeto it that opportunities do not slip by. If successdoes not come in their direction quickly enough,they go out to find it.

At all times, they look on the bright side oflife, with the result that they radiate happinesswherever they go. They do their business with asmile and they take to their sports in the samecheery way. In the latter, they can suffer abeating in the same spirit as they would carryoff a victory.

But, on the other side of the picture, there is asomewhat different account. Number threepeople are the children of Mars, who was the godof war. The outcome of this is that they are

quick to quarrel and show the spirit of defiance.They will never suffer an affront silently for thesake of peace. Peace, to them, is a sign of weak-ness and they glory in their strength.

In spite of all this bellicose tendency, there isnothing in their nature that makes them cruelor underhand. If there is to be a fight and itrests with them, it will be a clean one and, aslikely as not, they will shake hands with theenemy when it is all over.

But, do not imagine that number fourpeople are downhearted or disappointed becausethey cannot climb to the top of the tree. Somepeople shrink from authority and power thosewho are guided by the figurefourdo.

Their habit of acquiring facts and tit-bits ofinformation asserts itself in curious ways. Oneis that they become busybodies, the gossips ofthe neighbourhood and, in extreme cases, thescandalmongers.

Though they have no love for power, theyhave a strong desire for gaining possessions.They do not throw their money about, but theysave it up and, with it, buy the things for whichthey have a weakness. With their savings, theybuy house property, land, stocks and shares, orthey may be content to surround themselveswith nice things, such as antique furniture,objets dart, and so on. In almost every case, theacquisitive habit is plainly in evidence.

Another strong characteristic of numberfour people is their constructive ability. Theyare able to make things with their hands. Natur-ally, what they put together will differ enor-mously in different cases; but one will be ableto construct a fine piece of furniture; anotherwill have the facility for binding a book invellum; a third, if of the female sex, will knowhow to make her dresses look like models from

Number four people are rovers. They liketo travel and they like to go about and seethings. The home means less to them than itdoes to most people, and they look upon theirplace of abode as little more than somewhere torest and somewhere in which they can work.The halo of a real home is unknown to them.

When it comes to morning, those who claimfour as their number are not lacking in attention.They will expect their partner to be near to per-fection, and they will try to give perfection inexchange. Of course, they seldom succeed, butthe effort is in the right direction and makes forharmony on five days out of six.

When tempers are ruffled, which fortunatelyis not often, they are rather morose and it takesthem a considerable while to regain their normalbalance. Usually, they are generous, careful and

considerate; and, in the case of their children,they are particularly anxious to provide themwith a good start in life.

NUMBER FIVE

NUMBER FIVE is linked to the planet Jupiter andthose whose number it is are mainly fortunate.They have an array of characteristics which canplace them in the front rank. Defects, in theircase, are few.

Number Five stands for riches, productive-ness, fulness and success. Translated into every-

day words, this means that people who claimfiveas their natural number have the ability tosucceed in the world and make money, as aconsequence. Such people are the ones whogradually climb up and up until they reach thetop, where they are the envy of their less for-tunate brethren.

In spite of all this, Number Five has uncer-tainty as one of its characteristics. As a result,those who have climbed to the top of the laddercan never be certain that they will stay there.At any moment, even when least expected, theymay tumble to the bottom of the ladder, and theirefforts have to be started all over afresh. Typicalcases of such catastrophes occur when some

old-established business suddenly merges with arival house and all the heads are no longerwanted. The redundant staff will be found toconsist of number five people.

Two other qualities belonging to those whosenumber isfive are hopefulness and confidence.These have no value in themselves; but theyenable those people who possess them to workwith a keener will for success, and they are ableto look on the bright side of things. Thus,number five people are cheery, cheerful,jolly, satisfied individuals.

There is a very decided element of generosityin these people. They will share their last far-thing with anyone who needs succour. But, it isnot a far cry from generosity to extravaganceand number five people often show thelatter fault. We all know the type of person whocannot help spending whatever money he has.Such individuals belong, mostly, to the ranks ofNumber Five. In addition to generosity, they

have sympathy and benevolence.

As a rule, these people are clear thinkersand they show logic and reason in their argu-ments and actions. These qualities are, ofcourse, valuable in any walk of life, and all whopossess them are sought after for advice andassistance.

One of the outstanding failures of the num-ber five adherents is that they may be restless

people. It cannot be said that they all possessthis defect, though very many of them do. Thisoften causes them to throw up their life-workand start afresh at something else. Also, it makesthem pine for the green fields when they aresitting at home and, if they are lucky enough tovisit the green fields, they want to get homeagain. To stick at anything long is irksome tothem and requires the greatest effort.

When Number Five falls in love, he does it inno half-measures. He will be courteous to adegree and very ardent; but do not make toosure of him until he has proved his constancy.Remember that he is a restless soul and, thoughhe is perhaps burning with ardour to-day,to-morrow there may come a chilling frost andhe will ask to be released from his bondage. Ifhe is able to put his restless streak in his charac-ter aside, he will make an excellent lover and adignified one in the bargain. And, of course,women have just the same outlook as men inthese matters.

Of course, optimism can be carried too far,and there is no doubt that some of the numbersix people display it to a fault. They are theones who lock the stable door after the horse hasbeen stolen.

Since Number Six is opposed to warlike pur-Suits, it is easy to understand why it is a symbol ofsocial and domestic virtues. Adherents of thisnumber are, therefore, people who like companyand entertaining. Their homes are places ofwelcome, where friends foregather for pleasuresand merriment.

As an outcome of this characteristic, it will befound that number six people are fond of music,singing, dancing and everything that is embracedby the word, rhythm.

All this must not be taken to mean that these

people are the pleasure-loving kind that have nothought for the realities of life. Quite the con-trary. Though they revel in social and domesticpursuits, they have a strong leaning towards thecultural arts and to learning. They are, as a rule,well educated and keenly interested in the ques-tions of the day.

It must be admitted that they are not too prac-tical and, therefore, the whirlwind type of busi-ness man is not among their number. Neverthe-

less, it should not be thought that number

six people do not get on in the world. They doand, very often, they succeed in acquiring a posi-tion which provides them with plenty of thisworlds riches.

If the adherents of Number Six display anyfaults, it is in being too optimistic and too con-tented with the present lot. The latter is the out-come of a peaceful frame of mind, which in itselfis good; but it lulls the individual into a falsesense of security. And, while he is gracefullysleeping, his rivals are leaving him behind in therace.

In matters connected with marriage, the peoplewho claim Number Six as their own are remark-ably attractive. They are eminently fair and just,and they do not expect the impossible. Theyappreciate the blessings and favours whichcome their way, and they know how to overlookfaults. The home is everything to them and theyare never so happy as when they can enjoy it tothe full.

CHAPTER IX

NUMBER SEVEN

SATURN is the planet which controls this number.It provides an abundance of signs which go toprove that seven is not nearly such a luckynumber as many people suppose. True, thenumber has its good qualities; but they are farfewer than is usually conceived by the popularimagination.

The adherents of Number Seven are generallyof a philosophical nature. They accept theinevitable and do not complain when it bringsthem misfortunes. They are stoics, for when painand troubles become their lot, they grin and bearthem. They put up with almost any and everyform of reverse and show few signs of the ordeal.

From all this, it will be realised that theAdherents of Number Seven are quiet, resignedpeople. They do not cry for the moon, nor dothey hope for the wealth of Ind. If fortune

comes their way, they accept it humbly; if itpasses them by, they bow to the inevitable. It isall much the same to them.

As a matter of fact, number seven peoplehave more than their share of troubles andreverses; but their powers of resignation enablethem to bear them silently, and a casual observerwould not notice that anything was amiss. Thusit is that friends and relations of people with thisnumber should keep a watchful eye over them,and spare no pains in making their lot moreattractive.

This last remark about friends brings us to avery curious characteristic in the nature ofnumber seven people. It is that they have thepower to cast off their own natural traits andassume those of people who mean much to themor who are in close touch with them. A num-ber seven wife, for instance, will lose her ownidentity and take on that of her husband, if hehas some other natural number, and if she regardshim as everything on earth that matters. Simi-larly, if two women live together and exist foreach other, it will be found that, should one ofthem have the Number Seven, her nature will

gradually change and be remodelled into thenumber possessed by the other woman. From allthis, it is apparent that the seven peoplemake fast friends and deep friendships.

As a rule, the adherents of seven do not lackmoney and the necessaries of life their steadyoutlook preserves them from actual want but,on the other hand, they are not born to be rich,

unless in the process of years they cast off theirnatural numbers for some other.

There has long been an idea that seven waslucky. How such an idea ever arose, when con-trary facts are so abundantly clear, is difficult tounderstand. However, there is just this to besaid: Seven can be lucky at times; but, when itis, it will be found that the luck is afforded at theexpense of another persons misfortune. Thisrobs the luck of its glamour.

Where marriage is concerned, the position isdifficult to describe in a few words. A numberseven person generally changes almost entirely,for the reasons previously stated, except in thecases where the two partners do not get on welltogether. Then, there will be little or no change.The change, if it takes place, will bring thenumber seven person into closer union withhis or her partner. But it must not be forgottenthat two people may possess the same qualitiesand yet be different. Their personal presentation

of the same qualities accounts for the difference.

genial, and they do not forget those who havedone them a good turn.

A number eight person scarcely gives onethe impression that he is a hard worker. We allknow the type of person who is so busy that hehas no time for anything. Number Eight is notlike that. Probably, he gets through ten times asmuch as the apparently busy person just men-tioned, but he always seems to have time on handfor more and more work. The fact is that heknows how to space out his time and he knowshow to husband his energies.

As may be supposed, Number Eight has twosides to his account. The better side has nowbeen unfolded: here is the other side.

In Number Eights make-up, there is a verydefinite streak of what might be called therevolutionary spirit. It is an unpleasant streakwhich has spoiled many people who own thisnumber. This revolutionary spirit may come to

light when least expected and for no apparentreason. It certainly will come to the fore, if theindividual has suffered a serious check which is ofa too great magnitude for him to overcome.

When this characteristic is allowed to burstforth, Number Eight becomes a kind of down-with-everything person. Nothing is right andnobody is right, and the only way to put mattersstraight, in his estimation, is to give him the jobof looking after the world.

NUMBER NINE

NUMBER NINE is related to Neptune, and manyof its characteristics are of a very acceptablenature.

From all that has been said, it will be appreci-ated that the number nine person is notaltogether a go-ahead, twentieth century indivi-dual. He is certainly not what the Americans calla slick business person. Nor is he quite athome amidst all the hurry and bustle of city life.Some people might say that he is old-fashionned;but that is hardly a fair estimate of him, if he is anaverage specimen of his type. We would prefer tosay that he refuses to scamper through his work,since he considers that what is worth doing isworth doing well.

Of course, there are tendencies for the weakertype of the number nine people to slide intolaziness. The characteristics of the number ratherlean in that direction. When this happens, theyare people who neglect themselves in the matterof appearance, dress, feeding and health. If theyare forced to live a life of loneliness, especiallywhen getting on in years, their self-neglect is allthe more likely, and those who are attached tothem should endeavour to keep them up to

scratch.

The number nine man or woman makes afirst-rate partner in marriage. He or she will seta high standard and endeavour by all means tolive up to it. Nor does it assert that, if yournumber has good characteristics, you need makeno further effort. Numerology points out thequalities and defects which enter into your com-plex nature and, with that, you are left to inter-pret them in your own personal way.

DATE NUMBERS

ONE of the most valuable uses to which numer-ology can be put is to find by its aid the numberassigned to any particular day. Then, when wehave the number, it will be possible to learn agood deal about that day and, especially, how itwill treat us, individually.

There is nothing very difficult about turninga date into its own number. There are foursteps. First, you write down the number of theday of the month, and if it is a compoundnumber, it must be reduced to a primary.Second, you write down the number of the monthand reduce, as before, wherever necessary.For this purpose, the months are assigned theirnatural numbers, thus:

Third, you simply write down the number ofthe year and add up the individual figures.

And, lastly, you add up the three answers.This answer, when reduced to a primary number,gives the number of the day in which we happento be interested.

To make all this clear, let us take one or twoexamples. Suppose you are tentatively consider-ing December 24th as your wedding day, andwe will imagine that the year is 1959. Naturally,it will be very helpful to know the numerologynumber of this date. You proceed thus:

1st. The 24th day = 2 + 4 = 6.

2nd. The month is December and the table,above, assigns the figure 12 to this month. Astwelve is a compound number, it must be reducedto a primary number. So 1 + 2 = 3.

3rd. The year 1959 is added thus,1 + 9 + 5 + 9 = 24. Again, we have a com-pound number which requires reducing. Inthis case it reduces to 6.

4th. We now total up the three answers justobtained. They are 6 + 3 + 6 = 15. Reducingthis to its primary form, we get 6. Therefore6 is the date number of December 24th, 1959.

Now that we know that this day has for itsSymbol the Number Six, how can the fact beused? First of all, we are supposing that youtentatively chose the day for your wedding.This is evidently a personal matter, so how does

the number of the day accord with your personalname number? In Chapter II you were told how

to find this number of yours and by referring toChapter I you are able to discover whether theNumberSixpairs with your number or whetherit vibrates, attracts or disagrees with it.

If your personal number pairs or vibrates withthe number of the day you have tentativelychosen for your wedding, then go ahead andfix it definitely. If it attracts, you will probably dothe same. In either case, the issue should be propi-tious; but if it disagrees, you will be advised tochoose some other day for so important a function.

Naturally, it cannot be claimed that you havea personal interest in any and every day, such aswe supposed in the previous case. Many daysare merely passive as far as you are concerned.Then, it would be useless to find the numerologynumber of the day and compare it with your ownpersonal number. The comparison must be madein some other way. To make this clear, we willsuppose that an earthquake takes place on acertain day, or a devastating fire occurs. There is

no personal relationship with the earthquake orfire and you. Yet, you may wish to check upthe day and find out whether it was a happeningin accordance with the laws of numerology.

In such a case, the process of working will be asfollows:

Having discovered the number, the next stepis to seek out its application. The following listgives the readings for the nine possible numbers.It should be consulted in all cases in which nopersonal interest is at issue:

Two symbolises procreation, fruition and therelation of all opposite things. It stands fordoubt, hesitation and a lull of progress.

IN the Great Pyramid of Gizeh, there are to befound some figures which will interest those ofour readers who are intent on solving the riddleof their future marriage.

The figures are set out in a cryptic manner andseveral interpretations have been put upon them.But, if we place aside all the doubtful messageswhich they convey, we are still in possession ofsome very illuminating information.

Briefly, these tablets tell us how to discoverwhether two people are of suitable temperamentto marry each other. Of course, it will beadmitted straight away that a man and a womanmay both be very worthy and estimable, yettotally unsuited to each other. Conversely, thetwo may be very differently constituted, yet thequalities of the one may bring out the good pointsof the other and, though a casual observer might

prophesy that a decided failure will result of theunion, it ultimately proves to be a great success.Thus, failure or success does not depend uponthe joining of like natures, nor yet of unlike

natures. It is based on something far moresubtle, and numerology is the only occult sciencewhich attempts to peer into the future, in arational way.

The method suggested by the inscriptions atGizeh is as follows: Suppose a lady wishes tofind out whether a certain man would make hera suitable husband, she first finds out her ownpersonal number and, then, compares it with thenumber belonging to the man. According to theanswer, she will know if the union will bepropitious or not.

To explain exactly how the figuring should bedone, it will be helpful to take an example. Thelady, we will suppose, was born on August 17th,1916, and the man on October 10th, 1910.Then:

Lady: (a) 17th day = 1 + 7 = 8(b) August = 8.(c) 1916 = 1 + 9 + 1 + 6 = 17 = 8.

(d) 8 + 8 + 8 = 24 = 6, personal number.Man: (a) 10th day = 1 + 0 + 1.

CHAPTER XIV

THE COLOURS YOU SHOULD FAVOUR

FROM time immemorial people have known that,in some way, there was an attraction betweenthemselves and certain colours: also that theexact opposite held equally good, and that othercolours were positive harbingers of trouble.

In order to find some rule for deciding on thecolour that spelt success to any particular indi-vidual, people came to the conclusion that theremust be some connection between a personsbirth-date and the colour which brought him orher luck. And, from that assumption, theyarrived in some mysterious way, which we donot presume to understand, at a lucky colour forevery individual.

Since the revival of numerology, it has beenproved, over and over again, that each personhas what might be called a lucky colour, andthat it is revealed not by the use of birth-dates but

by an application of the science of numerology.

Numerology says that your name can bereduced to a number: it also shows that everycolour can be reduced to a number. In Chapter II

we explained how the reduction is effected in thecase of your name: the same process exactly isfollowed for arriving at the number of any colour.

So, it all amounts to this: if you want toknow which colours affect you beneficially andwhich adversely, you first find your own personalnumber, and then you note the numbers attachedto certain colours of your choice. When acolour has the same number as your name, youcan rest assured that it may be used beneficiallyby you. It is a colour that will help you: youshould elect it whenever possible for your dress:you should choose it in your decorative schemes:you should wear it as your mascot.

At the other end of the scale there are coloursthat positively hinder your progress and, ofcourse, they should be avoided. Such coloursare found by referring to Chapter I. There youwill find a list of numbers that disagree withother numbers. Thus, when a colour has anumber disagreeing with your personal number,

you will know at once that it is not a colour foryou. It should be straightway shunned.

Coming between the two extremes there arecolours that vibrate with and others that attractyour own number. They will be more beneficialthan otherwise to you. You will accept them foryour uses, but not to the same extent as you dothe colours which pair with your personalnumber.

NUMEROLOGY IN EVERYDAY LIFE

ONCE you have discovered your number by themeans already described, the ways of using itare endless.

We will suppose that you are comfortablyseated in your office and, suddenly, a matter cropsup which requires your decision. It happens thatyou have to choose between two things. Ofcourse, if one is better than the other, you willuse your judgment and select the better. Natur-ally, numerology will not expect you to rejectthe better for the worse. But, in this particularcase, the two seem equally acceptable and thereis nothing to choose between them. This isevidently a case for numerology.

The two things cannot be exactly alike: theymust differ in some way. Perhaps they areoffered to you by two different firms. Then hereis a solution to your difficulties. Scribble, on a

slip of paper, the names of the two firms andtranspose the letters into figures. Perhaps youhave not memorised the numbered alphabet andcannot put your hand on this book. That need

not trouble you long. Write down the alphabetand then number off the letters, starting withone for A and going as far as 9, then beginningwith one again; but remember that PH is thesame as F.

When you have done that it will be easy tosee which of the two firms have a name numberthat accords most with your own. And whenyou have found that out, decide in favour ofthe firm in question.

If you have not the name of a firm or personto compare with your own, take the name of thearticle and use that. Of course, you are nowdeparting from the path of safety and you mayalight on some factor for your purpose that willnot give you a correct clue to suitable numbers.That is when numerology is blamed for faultswhich it has not committed.

Take another case. You have to call upon afirm and you hope to pull off a good piece of

business while there. You are booked to reachthe firm by 2.30. Thoughts of numerology flashacross your mind and, on the back of an oldenvelope, you scribble the now familiar invertedpyramid but with these figures:

Do no think that numerology is somethingto use now and again. It can be applied to thedrawing-up of a dinner menu, a dance pro-gramme, to mapping out a summer holiday orbuying a new frock. Its uses are unlimited.

THE PAST, THE PRESENT AND THEFUTURE

NUMEROLOGY claims that during the whole ofour lives we are influenced by numbers. Anumber denotes the year of our birth: anotherwill herald the year of our death, and still othersmark or will mark the years in which events ofspecial importance occur to us. All thesenumbers, the science contends, are not mere

figures that happen by chance. In some specialand rather mysterious way, they are related.

Not long ago we applied one of the mostuseful numerology tests to a lady who happenedto call on us. For reasons which will be appreci-ated later, we purposely did not explain to herwhat we proposed to do. The experiment con-sisted in asking certain questions which she wasrequired to answer.

Here are our questions and her answers:

(1) When were you born? In the year 1900.

(2) What happened to you in 1910? I had avery serious illness, but what makes you ask?

(3) What happened to you in 1921? Why,that was the year I was married.

(4) What happened to you in 1929? Nothingthat I can remember of any importance.

(5) What happened to you in 1934? I wentfor a tour round the world.

These were our questions and now let usexplain why each one of them was asked.

First of all, the lady said she was born in theyear 1900. The figures of that year add up to 10.Add 10 to 1900 and we get 1910. Hence the dateof the second question.

Next, the figures of 1910 add up to 11. Add11 to 1910 and we get 1921. This date accountsfor the second question.

Again, the figures of 1921 add up to 13. Add13 to 1921 and we get 1934. This accounts for

the fifth and last question.

But what about the fourth question? you willimmediately ask. It will be recognised that thedate asked in that question did not belong to theprogression years. It was a year chosen atrandom to see if the lady was giving events forany and every year that might be asked. Heranswer shows that she did not look upon the yearwith any significance, as far as she was con-cerned; nor was it.

This little experiment with what are knownas the progressive years of your life will point

out the years that have passed and those thatare to come which will be or have been out-standing years. Just apply the experiment toyour own life and the lives of some of yourfriends; then see if the test does not answersatisfactorily. Continue beyond the present yearand you will be told the years to come withspecial significance.

It will be noticed that, for this progressivesequence, the annular figures are not reduced toa primary number.

Now, to make use of this mystic square, wecommence by drawing the square, but leavingout the figures. Then, we take the day on whichwe were born and reduce it to figures. It will be seenthat the thousand and hundred figures of theyear are omitted, as they are redundant for thepurposes of the square.

Next, we write these figures in the square, intheir appropriate places. In the case we havesuggested, the square will now take this form:

Another point tonote is that when the birth date happens to beformed by the repetition of one or more figures,the figures are duplicated in the appropriatesquare. Numerology gives strength and supportbecause it helps you to discover facts aboutyourself which you could not know otherwise.These facts depend upon the numbers whichinfluence your life and actions. Once you knowthem, you can go ahead and not grope about inthe dark, as you were forced to do before youknew them.
