I think that the music video for this song does conventions from similar rap videos for example you can clearly see a large amount of money and there is clear fighting two things that is commonly linked with rap music money and violence. I also think that the music video does link in with some peoples society but these are only people that come from bad places as it links with their own life’s.

I don’t really think that the rap genre has changed that much if you compare this song to 2pac hit em up they basically use the same the same convention money, violence and girls. I would say that the different is that the 2pac comes across worst then the T.I song as the 2pac song is aimed at someone where the T.I song isn’t, apart from this I would same that the two songs are very similar so I don’t think that rap has changed in the past 10 years.

The two look the same both use movement and have the same type of style, there's not much between the two.

todorov

I think that this song does use some of todorov’s theory but the order isn’t right it has each part in but in a different order for example the Equilibrium starts around about half way though the video what is T.I used chilling with this mates the disruption is when T.I tries to get out of something the recognition of the disruption is when the people beat T.I up for trying to get out, the attempt to repair the disruption is when they throw him out the car and the return to the equilibrium is at the end when T.I knows that he is out.

I'm not really sure if this video has a binary opposition you could say that the man who attack T.I are the binary opposition as they are fighting one and other or you could even say that T.I is a binary opposition with himself as you seem to see two different sides of him the side that wanted in and the side that wanted out.

Stereotypes

One stereotype that has been used at one point is that gangster people wear their trousers lowly as most of them seem to do this. On the same line the way the people are dressed is a stereotype in itself as they all dress the same way the gangster way

They all dress in the same type of way loose clothes and hats or bandanas

Gender

I think that males are represented as more masculine and can get themselves out of problems a good example of this is near the end where that man tells T.I that used like Rihanna there is no way out but he doesn’t care and still tries to fight his way out where as Rihanna doesn’t do anything and just gets on with it.

The male characters are seen fighting with each other something that you never see the female character do.

Laura Mulvey

This is both true and false there are parts when Rihanna is placed like this for the masculine POV but there are also times when this is false as she is placed on the screen with T.I so you could say that this statement is both right and wrong for this music video depending on where you look.

There for the masculine POV

Singing along side T.I so are seen as the same.
