Faculty members Dr. Martina Kamaka and Dr. Vanessa Wong, along with their first year medical students from JABSOM, currently taking a yearlong elective in Hawaiian healthcare, came out to Kūkaniloko. To traditional healers, health means a balance between the ʻāina, man and the gods; as well as an equal balance in the spiritual, mental/emotional and physical states. Students visit sacred sites such as Kūkaniloko, to meet with traditional healers and to learn basic protocol. Work-visits emphasize giving back to the communities in exchange for the knowledge they gain. Hopefully, in the end, that they will be better physicians and better members of their communities. More importantly better prepared to care for the people of our Nation, ko Hawaiʻi paeaina...Mahalo piha for planting for our future.

January 23rd, 2k13... 90 fourth grade students of Helemano Elementary School, located across the street from Kūkaniloko in Whitmore Village, came out to Kūkaniloko to visit with kahu Tom Lenchanko...fourth and fifth grade haumana have been coming annually for more than 25 years to learn about and malama `aina Kūkaniloko...there have been times where the Hawaiian Civic Club of Wahiawā has brought the educational display to craft fairs, Iolani Palace, the Bishop Museum and many gatherings across our island and there would always be someone who would say “you know our class went to Kūkaniloko in the fourth or fifth grade as a field trip and there was a man there who told us the story of Kūkaniloko; he was awesome...I want to bring my fifth grade class to Kūkaniloko and it will be a full circle event”...and we simply say “and the man is still there telling the story of Kūkaniloko”...eō

The following week, grant reviews were completed electronically. Corrections and approvals were effectively expedited...eō

Uncle Charlie Rose was dearly loved by family, friends and our Hawaiian community. He was a humble man with a great sense of humor. A member of several Hawaiian Civic Clubs across the islands, he worked tirelessly as quoted by Leimomi Khan: “Charlie was an influential, compassionate, forward-thinking leader who believed strongly in empowering individuals and building partnerships.” He helped to create Hawai'i Maoli non-profit to help Hawaiian Civic Clubs be able to obtain funding to help their communities throughout Hawai'i and on the continent. He was also a founding member of the Prince Kuhio Federal Credit Union. He was instrumental in helping Hawaiian communities obtain grants for higher education, scholarships, health programs, and preservation of the oral histories of kupuna...My special aloha to Uncle Charlie who sat me down one day and said, “It’s out there, go for it!” HCCW has since received six grants...me kealoha pumehana...
