2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC
The new IQAC Co-ordinator took charge in October 2014. Since then several meetings with the Management, HOD’s, Office Staff and Teachers in general have been conducted to sensitize them of the importance of the third NAAC visit and the necessity of getting the college prepared to receive the NAAC Peer team in January 2016. Orientation courses for systematizing the activities of the college have been undertaken. The AQAR for the five years from 2010 to 2015 have been prepared for forwarding to the UGC. The IQAC committee presently consisting of Five Teachers, Three Administrative and a Technical Staff, Two Management representatives and One Student representative has been expanded to include Four Experts, Five Alumni and Five Stakeholders/ Community representatives for the effective functioning of the college. The committee members added are either former teachers or former students of the college, who possess the goodwill to uplift the college to a position of excellence.

Provide the details of the action taken A meeting of the IQAC with the Management representative and the Heads of various Departments was held at the Principal’s Office on 24/04/2015 at 11.30 AM. The meeting unanimously sanctioned the AQAR 2014-15 for forwarding to the UGC.

Preparation of AQAR from 2010 to 2015
Completed and forwarded to the UGC with sanction from the authority of college.
Orientation for Teaching Staff
Meetings were held with the Teaching Staff and Orientation course for the purpose of reducing the anxiety of the young faculty was conducted.
Sensitizing the Office Staff
Several meetings and an orientation class was held with the Office Staff to help them do their work systematically and to ease their anxiety regarding Service Rules and Conditions.
Discussion with the Management Several meetings were held to discuss the development of the infrastructure, appointment of Librarian, welfare of staff and students and improving academic and Research Climate in the Institution. Serious measures have been taken by the management for this purpose.
Completion of the Research Centre and the inauguration.
The work has been completed and the college is getting ready for its inauguration.
Starting Job Oriented Courses Applications for BVOC courses under Kaushal Scheme of the Central Government has been sent with the concurrence the Management and the University.
Development of Library Lack of space for storing books has been overcome by expanding the library space for which an additional room was granted by the Principal and considerable amount was provided by the Management. Action was taken for procuring more almirahs and maintenance and repair of existing furniture.

Regarding conduct of examinations, there are strict guidelines laid down by the University. Hence, there is not much scope for experimentation. Bar Coding is followed by the University. In the conduct of class test and internal evaluation tests, multiple choice questions are extensively used. Online examination is conducted by some departments in a very limited manner.

3. Research, Consultancy and Extension
3.1 Initiatives of the IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the institution
The faculty is motivated to take up fundamental research designed to address the various contemporary issues, so that the nature of the problem and hence its solution can be found out. IQAC has contributed to obtain minor research projects for the faculty. IQAC provides information pertaining to UGC assistance for seminars and helps to obtain funds. Zamorin’s Centre for Indepth Research (ZCIR) monitors research activities of the teachers and also conducts programs to encourage and support the students to undertake different research related activities. ZCIR is a forum for Indepth Research in the campus which encourages and creates research climate in the institution. It organized a one day seminar on the topic “How to prepare a Thesis and Research Article”. Dr.P.Bhaskaran Nair, Retired Professor, Lncoln University delivered the talk. A paper presentation competition on the topic “Technological changes and Higher Education” was conducted for PG students and prizes given to the winners. ZCIR also conducted a quiz competition.

Political Science: In association with Department of History organized Bipan Chandra Memorial Lecture. They conducted inter class quiz competition on Indian National Movement.
History: Poster exhibition on Bhagat Singh was held as part of Independence Day Celebration. Conducted study tour to Ernakulam and Munnar. Field trip was conducted to Kakkodi to visit the Megalathic Site.Conducted a poster exhibition ata Kailamadam L.P.School , Pantheerankave with the theme “ Contribution of Freedom Fighters”.
Economics: Conducted regional workshop for students of BA Economics on “Higher Education and Job opportunities at Govt. College, Manathavady. They conducted seminar on “Gender Economics”. Observed environmental day in collaboration with the Forest Department by planting new saplings in the campus. As part of Service Day “Clean and Green Campus Mission “ was organized along with the Forest Department. Winners of various competitions were felicitated by the Development Club.
Malayalam: The association was inaugurated by the eminent writer Sri.Subhash Chandran. Sri.S.Unnikrishnan has been appointed Review Committee Member RLCS of the Central Institute of Indian Languages, HRD, Govt. of Indian from 2014.They Celebrated Vayanna Dinam.
Sociology: In collaboration with Child Line, an NGO for the protection of Child Rights formed a volunteer group. The association was inaugurated by Miss.Indumenon renowned writer and Sahithya Academy Award recipient for

Mathematics: Conducted a one day visit to Kerala School of Mathematics. They also visited the Oldage Home at Vellimadukunnu, arranged Lunch with the inmates and share their experience and thoughts. Students organized Two-Day Workshop for Ninth Standard students of Azchavattom HS School, Calicut. UG and PG students with Teachers attended the Mathematics Day celebrations at KSOM.
Audio Visual Club: Organised a Short Film Show in association with Santhwanam ( An association for rehabilitating drug addicts and sexually abused).They also organized a Short Film Festival at the College where Two Films: “Gulmohar A Campus Reminiscence” and “Oru Nerkazhicha” (produced by Police Department and Our Students) were presented.
Heritage Club: A Kathakali demonstration class by Sri Kalamandalam Kesavan Namboodiri was organized at Chavara Cultural Centre, Calicut. He was accompanied by Kum. Gagana, Kathakali Artist and Instrumentalists and Singers.
Media Club: Conducted A Documentary making Workshop in July. Nature Club: Planted 250 Saplings in the college Campus on World
Environment Day. The function was inaugurated by H.H.The Zamorin Raja by Planting Krishnanal (Ficus krishnae) in front of College Library. Dr.K.Azeez, Asst Prof of Botany, Unity Womens College, Manjeri gave a talk on Bio Diversity of Western Ghats. The programe

was conducted in association with the NSS units and Development Club of Economics. Students participated in a Conference of Prakriti Samrakshana Samiti at Calicut Town Hall
Martial Arts Club: A month long practice session was conducted for students who were selected to represent the college in the Intra University Tae Kwon do Competition.
ED Club: Actively participated in the five day MSME exhibition cum sale of Handicrafts and Homemade Food products organized by Industries Department Govt of Kerala. 30 students attended one day seminar on Degradable Plastics organized by DIC at Hotel De-Grand Calicut. Conducted one day field visit to Sargalaya Craft Village, Iringal, and Janakikad Eco Tourism project on 28/02/2015. Motivated and sent 36 students to various hospitals in Calicut for Donating Blood to patients. Conducted a survey in Govt. LP School Varathur for Identifying students who are weak in English and Maths, for conducting free coaching utilizing the free time of our students. Donated Books to Govt. LP School , Varathur.
Palliative and Truama Care: Conducted training sessions for moulding and guiding the students. It consisted of a Orientation Class conducted by the SIPC (Students in Palliative Care) wing of The Institute of Palliative Medicine and an Orientation Class by Dr.Abdul Gafoor, Co-ordinator of Palliative Care Unit emphasizing the significance of Palliative Care in the present Society. The Palliative Care Unit of Kinnassery conducted an Awareness Class on the need for Home Care in our society. Training for the same was given. Another class was given by The Pediatric Palliative Care Unit of IMCH. SIPC day was celebrated under the name Snehathinte Kayoppu the members made efforts to create awareness among the students of the college. They also conducted a Handicraft Exhibition titled “Petals” to exhibit and sell the products made by the inmates of Institute of Palliative Medicines. The members of the college joined hands with other colleges to collect funds for the welfare of Cancer Patients.Kerala State Handicapped Welfare Corporation in collaboration with the Vocational Rehabilitation and The Institute of Palliative Care organized a job oriented project Named “Saphalyam Bhinnaseshi Thozhill Mela”. 6 students participated in the Job Oriented camp conducted by Food Prints to help those who are Bedridden by Spinal Cord damage. 20 Students attended the International Seminar on Youth in Palliative Care “Students Palcon-2015” conducted by SIPC. 30 Students assisted the trainers during the five day training programe under Foot Prints for the inmates of IPM. 43 students attended the Homecare Training of the IPM. The Palliative Truama Care centre of our college has undertaken 10 Homecare projects. They supplied Medicines Homecare and Mental support for the suffering, under the guidance of Kinnassery Palliative Unit. They have also undertaken the project for constructing a Toilet for Sri. Mohanan who is a resident close to the campus. The fund was raised from campus itself.

Philately and Numismatic Club: Organised a Philatelic Exhibition in connection with inauguration of the Club. A seminar on commercial aspects of Philatelic and Numismatic collection were also conducted.
Folklore Club: Conducted a Northeast Cultural exchange programe with the help of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kerala Folklore Academy, NSS and NCC units. Delegates from Assam, Sikkim, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur and Kerala presented various cultural programs. The club along with Tourism Club organized a Food Fest- Traditional Food item prepared by Students, Teaching and Non teaching staff were the main attraction of the Food Fest.
Walk With the Scholar Scheme: Conducted a class on “Motivation” by Dr.K.Shivarajan, Dean, Faculty, Department of Education, University of Calicut. The following talks were conducted for students of First Year UG:-

Kerala Institute of Travel and Tourism Studies (KITTS) Ernakulam and Tourism Club of the college together conducted a Career Guidance Programe on Tourism and Higher Educational opportunities. The members participated in a seminar conducted by DTPC in connection with World Wet Lands Day
Dance and Music Club: Organised a Dance Performance and demonstration by renowned Mohiniyattom Artist Dr.Neena Prasad and group .The program was jointly organized by The College and SPICMACAY, a national level cultural organization.

6.3.1 Curriculum Development
Our college is affiliated to the University of Calicut and there is a prescribed curriculum of the University. The faculty is actively engaged in curriculum and development by acting as members in various Boards of Studies. Two of our faculty contributes to the university education in his capacity as Senate Member.
6.3.2 Teaching and Learning
The faculty makes use of every opportunity to advance their knowledge by participating in seminars and through presentation of papers. They also encourage the students to do the same. Feedback from the students is collected regularly to enhance the quality of teaching. In connection with this, extensive use is made of information technology and the use of modern equipments for presentation of ideas, figures, etc. On the basis of feedback and evaluation, the limitations of students are recognized and pointed out to them. Additional coaching is imparted to those who are in need of it. This takes the form of remedial teaching and bridge courses.
6.3.3 Examination and Evaluation
As per the directions of the university, the direct grading system is followed in the college. Two internal exams are conducted as part of continuous evaluation. Apart from this, seminar presentations, assignments, etc. are also used as part of continuous evaluation. Class tests are regularly conducted. The faculty acts in various capacities as examiners in various University examinations, and taking up, work as external evaluators. The senior faculty acts as Chairperson and also sets question papers for other universities.

6.3.4 Research and Development
The Research Block is intended exclusively for research. It is constructed to commemorate the 100th birthday of our Patron, The Zamorin Raja. The costruction is complete and the inauguration is to be conducted soon. The Departments of Botany and Economics have been upgraded as Research Centres.
6.3.5 Library, ICT and physical infrastructure / instrumentation
There is a centralized library with 87495 textbooks. There are 555 reference books. There are 177 journals with a value of Rs.77230. Apart from this, there are well stocked department libraries. There is a Ladies Hostel with about 200 students .A students Co-operative store functioning well. It serves the students in all possible ways. There is also a student friendly canteen. The science departments have well furnished laboratories. Effective implementation of teaching is ensured through the use of modern devices. The college has a well furnished computer lab. Students can access the library and the lab at any time during college working hours. The construction of the new Co-operative store was completed and functioning started. There are two Xerox outlets –one in the Library and the other in the office building open for students. CCTV Cameras are sets at various places in the Campus. The campus also has PNB extension counter and Post office.

The faculty acts in various capacities like hostel warden, staff advisor, NCC Officer, NSS Coordinator etc. They motivate the students to create a clean pollution free campus which already has the reputation of a green campus. The faculty guides the students to advance their career. Students are provided with information pertaining to higher education, scholarships, career advancement possibilities and finishing classes by the faculty.

The Alumni is devoted to the college. Buddha statue was reinstated. Cash award given to best NCC Cadet. ZGC UAE Chapter has given 18 Scolarships for meritorious students in UG and PG . Special award of Rs.10000 was given for the Best Student. Zamorins Physics Alumni Association (ZAMPAA) sponsored a sum of rupees One Lakh towards the renovation of the existing laboratory. Chemistry Alumni Association conducted executive committee meeting Three times and organized family get together with teachers.
