Our Lady of Sorrows & Santísima Trinidad Fourth Sunday of Easter April 25, 2021 THE WORD THIS WEEK It was with shock and great sorrow that I heard the news about the murder of Amanda Johnson, someone with roots in our parish and with family and friends in our community. How terribly tragic. Our deepest condolences go out to everyone who knew her. The dark depravity that the human heart is capable of, the depths of hatred that we inflict on each other, is just staggering and so, so sad. What can we do in the face of such violent evil? Besides crying out to God in painful frustration or seeking the justice that civil law provides, what can we do? It’s understandable to want to doubt God’s goodness or to harbor grudges and rage or to find some way to seek out vengeance. We do this every time we ex- perience injustice. But to turn to evil as an answer to evil only leads to more evil. I pray that the victor over sin and death, the risen Jesus Christ, would bring healing to our community and scatter the darkness of our hearts. You might wonder what good He can do if He allows such bad things to happen, but Jesus never prom- ised we wouldn’t suffer if we prayed or followed Him or tried to be faithful. Jesus did, however, promise His Spirit and for us to be able to do impossible things. I believe this is one of those times we’re be- ing challenged to do something impossible by His grace and power. What do we do in the face of such evil? St. Paul offers the answer—”Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Jesus, help us not to be overcome by this evil. What does it mean to you to be a child of God, (Chiquitos/Chiquitas de Dios)? Let’s focus this week on the nature of God’s love, the intimate familia relationship we have with Him. In that, as children of God, we are confident that at the end we will enjoy the rewards of heaven with Him. And those who are not allied with him cannot know him. Let’s nurture our relationship with God everyday. We will be the cornerstone winning victory over one’s enemies. Blessings. THE WORD THIS WEEK THE WORD THIS WEEK

It was with shock and great sorrow that I heard the news about the murder of Amanda Johnson, someone with roots in our parish and with family and friends in our community.

We do this every time we ex-perience injustice. But to turn to evil as an answer to evil only leads to more evil.

I pray that the victor over sin and death, the risen Jesus Christ, would bring healing to our community and scatter the darkness of our hearts. You might wonder what good He can do if He allows such bad things to happen, but Jesus never prom-ised we wouldn’t suffer if we prayed or followed Him or tried to be faithful. Jesus did, however, promise His Spirit and for us to be able to do impossible things. I believe this is one of those times we’re be-ing challenged to do something impossible by His grace and power. What do we do in the face of such evil? St. Paul offers the answer—”Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Jesus, help us not to be overcome by this evil.

What does it mean to you to be a child of

God, (Chiquitos/Chiquitas de Dios)? Let’s

focus this week on the nature of God’s

love, the intimate familia relationship we

have with Him. In that, as children of

God, we are confident that at the end we

will enjoy the rewards of heaven with

Him. And those who are not allied with

him cannot know him. Let’s nurture our

relationship with God everyday. We will

be the cornerstone winning victory over

one’s enemies. Blessings.
