January is the month of new beginnings. The Christmas decorations are taken down and put away until

Christmas time next December. The house is cleaned. Dates from old planners and calendars are

moved to new 2017 planners and calendars, or your smart phone does it for you. January we start with

a clean slate. We think of all the new possibilities and make resolutions to go forward with them, such

as eating better and exercising more. Even the fresh layers of snow bright white and beautiful give us a

sense of new possibilities. Our bodies and homes are always better when we make fresh starts in

January. Maybe our fresh start is making a new budget and living more simply money wise and time

wise. Not only will our bank account feel better, but we will be less stressed.

January can be a time of fresh starts with relationships. We can call an old friend we have not heard

from in a long while. Or we can give some extra time and love to a relative who may need it. Our

hearts can feel lighter as we make fresh starts with those we love and miss.

January can be a time of newness for us spiritually also. We can make a fresh start in our relationship

with the Lord. Our heart and soul will feel the great peace of God as we grow in our relationship with

the Lord. We can rededicate ourselves to God, reconnect. We can use the new year to grow deeper in

our relationship with the Lord. Maybe resolve to read the Bible each day and pray each day.

Sometimes our relationship with the Lord is strained because we do not completely trust God. I know

that sounds horrible! But as humans we have trouble completely trusting others, even God. So our

fresh start for the new year would be learning where we have trust issues with the Lord: such as

finances, time, decisions, or our heart. I pray that we all grow in our love and trust in the Lord.

I pray that this January will be filled with wonderful new beginnings; and these new beginnings will

grow into new habits, deeper relationships, and greater love. I pray that 2017 will be a great year for

each of you. I pray that you will be filled with the grace, love, and peace of Christ. Amen.

May the Lord bless you richly,

Pastor Cathy

New Year Prayer :

Thank You Lord for giving me

The brand new year ahead.

Help me live the way I should

As each new day I tread.

Give me gentle wisdom

That I might help a friend,

Give me strength and courage

So a shoulder I might lend.

The year ahead is empty,

Help me fill it with good things

Each new day filled with joy

And the happiness it

brings.

Amen.
