Annual Livestock ShowsIn January, Lea County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) participated, as in the past, in

the Gaines and Yoakum County Junior Livestock shows. LCEC joins annually in

supporting local youth with the sale of their livestock. These young people learn

the responsibility and fi nance it takes to purchase and raise an animal hoping

that they will profi t. They must follow detailed show guidelines to certify their

animals for judging, put in the daily work of feeding and grooming, and display

poise and control of their animals in the show ring. The monetary return can

be considerable if the animal places well and is auctioned for several thousand

dollars. Buyers are usually local residents or businesses, like LCEC. Aside from all

of this they are required to be a part of the local Future Farmers of America (FFA)

or -H organizations. LCEC supports the eff orts learning to be our future leaders,

personal growth and career success through agriculture education. LCEC would

like to encourage those participating in continuing their hard work and wish

them continued success.
