THE VISITOR BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH INTRODUCING BRIDGE PASTOR KRIS KURZEJESKI! A Note From Pastor John Lestock JUNE 2016 VOLUME 16, ISSUE 6 If you have not yet met her, let me introduce to you a friend you will be seeing quite a bit of at Be- thel. Pastor Kristin “Kris” Kurzejeski will be helping us as our “bridge pastor” over the next months. She will be with us on a part-time basis and involved with: leading worship, preaching, helping with weddings, funerals , baptisms, as well as some counseling, teaching, and visiting, when needed. As a note of clarification, this is a temporary position Kris is filling and not a pastoral “call”. Rather, she is serving here while our Call Committee(s) are actively search- ing for, and interviewing, poten- tial pastors for our long term po- sitions. Pastor Kris and her family (husband Neal and three children) live in Stillwater, Minnesota. She is a 2010 graduate of Luther Seminary in St Paul and served as an associate pastor at Roseville Lutheran Church in the Twin Cit- ies for five years. She grew up on a farm in Trimont, Minnesota and loves to read, attend sporting events, and watch movies. She says she has always rooted for the Twins and the Vikings and now “considers it one of her crosses to bear.” Pastor Kris comes to us with high recommendations and praises from pastors and churchmen that know her well. Please help us in welcoming Kris and making her feel “at home” here at Bethel. You may want to give her a call or stop by her of- fice sometime soon. We’re excited to see the various ways God will use Pastor Kris and her gifts and talents here in the coming months. She will be with us on a part-time basis and involved with: leading worship, preaching, helping with weddings, funerals , baptisms, as well as some counseling, teaching, and visiting, when needed. BETHEL BOOK CLUB

MEETS JUNE 1

The book we will be discussing is “The Nazi Officer’s Wife” by Edith Hahn Beer on Wednesday, June 1 at 1:00 pm, Downtown Campus. This is a story of a Jewish woman whose faith in her religion and her strength never let her down in spite of the horrendous perils she faced in her life during the World War II period. Edith Hahn was an outspoken young woman in Vienna when the Gestapo forced her into a ghetto and then a labor camp. When she returned home later, she became a hunted woman and went underground. She emerged in Munich as Grete Denner, married Werner Vetter, a Nazi Party member, and he kept her identity a secret. All are welcome to join this lively book discussion which will be facilitated by Marie Heikkila.

The Women of Bethel gather monthly (October-June) with friends, new and old, to share the Word of God. All women are welcome to attend a gathering of their choice! If you have any questions, please contact Gail Nolan, facilitator, at [email protected]. This month’s gatherings: Dorcas Gathering: Thursday, June 9, 9:30am, at Downtown Campus. Hostesses: Doreen Deal and Polly Orf. Bible study leader: Char Lee.

Mary Gathering: Thursday, June 9, 12pm, at the home of Cid Phillips (529 Galahad Rd.) Pot-luck luncheon followed by a Bible study. Marlene Libby will lead the study titled, "Treasure in Clay Jars". Ruth Gathering: Thursday, June 9, 7pm, at the home of Bette Peterson. It will be a group study. Naomi Gathering: Monday, June 13, 2pm, at the home of Wendy Peterson (715 4th St., Hudson; Phone #715-690-9792). Bible Study: Barbara Ronningen.

QUILTING SUPPLIES: used blankets—full or double size—that are used as a filler in the quilts. Donations may be left at the Downtown Welcome Center Quilting Supply Box

FUNERAL HELPERS: a few men are needed to periodically help with funerals. Can your name be added to the list? Con-tact Gail Nolan at 715-781-2029 or [email protected].

IN GRATITUDE Dear Bethel family, At the end of that Sunday evening, after we gave our last hugs and sat down in our car, Alicia turned to me (Ben) when it was just the two of us, and the first thing she asked was, “how do you feel?” I usually take a moment to think in times like this, but this time, my response came out automatically: “Loved.” From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who made our “good journey” celebration unforget-table. During the program, the reception, and the last few weeks of our time at Bethel, we felt overwhelmed with love by the Bethel and Hudson community. We are humbled and grateful by each and every one of you who took the time to surround us with good wishes and prayer. May God bless you in this next chapter in the life and faith of Bethel. We thank you, and we thank God for you. Your brother and sister in Christ, Ben and Alicia Hilding (and Miriam too!)

JOURNEY WOMEN’S RETREAT THANKS YOU!

Once again, women were moved and changed over the Journey Women’s Retreat. This weekend is cherished time spent renewing and relaxing—with new and old friends and family and in the Word. Thank you to all who make this possible: The Journey Planning Team, the many helpers, Bethel Endowment and Women of Be-thel grants to offset scholarship costs and provided professional musicians Heather Moen, Amy Courts and Torie Redpath. A thank you also to Tracy Berglund and Thrivent Financial for funds that al-lowed the partici-pants to experience

professional speaker and author, Dr. Karoline Lewis. And a special thank you to all the guys who helped run Sunday School on a day when most of women leaders were away (you can come help on any Sunday, too). Watch for dates for the 2017 retreat soon. The planning team is in the initial planning stages of this memorable event.

WHERE CHILDREN

GROW IN THE NAME

OF JESUS Bethel Highlands Preschool, an instrument of God’s grace, love and compassion, exists to serve and support families of the greater Hudson community. We provide a safe and loving environment in which an excellent educational program nurtures the spiritual, physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of the unique, God-given gifts of each child.

During May, students and families showered the BHP teachers with a luncheon for Teacher Appreciation. A school favorite, Rockin’ Woody, entertained the students with an “in-house” field trip.
