From Dameon and Leonie, Baron and Baroness of Aneala, to the populace of Aneala, greetings

Thank you everyone for a wonderful Anealan Championship Weekend. Congratulations to Aneala’s new champions:Champion of the Sword - Lord Richard FerrowreChampions of the Rapier - Sir André de MontségurChampion of the Bow - Lord Ulfr fra JorvikChampion of the Arts and Sciences - Mistress Branwen of Werchesvorde

As well as defending us and the Barony, Aneala’s Champions provide us all with examples of courtesy, skill and prowess in their various arts, and what it is to strive for honour. All of them have lessons to teach us all. Ask them for their stories, and honour them as your Champions.

Aneala’s outgoing champions Sir Clement von Arlon, Lord Thomas of Caerdyf and Lord Zaven Zetounsi were inducted into the Hearth troupe (in Zaven’s case resuming his place) and we thank them for their promise of on-going service to the Barony.

Lady Margarita Rossetti has accepted a position as Lady-in-waiting to the Baroness, and we thank her also for her promise of service.

But there is more to Championship weekend than tournaments and competitions - there are food, feasting, singing, arts and sciences classes, and some hard work. Thank you to the Steward Lady Lucia and her many helpers, to Lady Susannah and Lord Richard for the tavern feast on Saturday, to Lord Jacques and the College for the Victory Feast on Sunday night, to Master Kilic and Mistress Branwen for breakfasts, and to Lady Lucia and helpers for the lunches. Thanks to the outgoing champions for organising the tournaments to select their successors, and to the heralds, list keeper and marshals who all kept the tournaments running. And of course the populace (if not already included above) who all pitched in and helped out somewhere along the way.

At Championship we also had the sorrow of marking the passing of Lord Rhys fforrestwr, who has been such a stalwart of the College and the Barony. Vale Rhys. May he be at peace.

Coming events for October.

Abertridwr will hold its Five Man Melee event on October 15th. Unfortunately we will not be there, since we are travelling to Politarchopolis that weekend, but we hope all the fighters have a great time.

We will be back in time to attend the Green Dragon Feast in Dragons Bay on 22 October at Casuarina/Wellard Community Hall. This is a potluck feast, and always a very enjoyable event.

Then on the last weekend of October we have the Bal d’Aneala: Oktoberfest on 29 October, at St Matthews Hall, Guildford. The Bal d'Aneala includes the competition to select the next Bard of Aneala, so come along and display your entertainment prowess to the populace, or watch and applaud the skill of others, and chose your favourite to entertain us for the next year.

Don’t forget to book for these events. we hope to see many of you there.

We also reiterate our call for recommendations for baronial awards. We watch for skills, prowess and service among the populace, but know that we do not see everything, so we rely on you to tell us of worthy deeds.

Until next time

Yours in service

Dameon and Leonie
