WHO WE AREThe Auburn University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is comprised of three units: The Wilford and Kate Bailey Small Animal Teaching, the J.T. Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital and the Auburn University Veterinary Clinic.

WILFORD AND KATE BAILEY SMALL ANIMAL TEACHING HOSPITALDogs, cats, domestic/companion animals

The Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital is one of the nation’s leading medical facilities for animal healthcare. The 208,000-square-foot facility is one of the largest and most technologically advanced teaching and referral hospitals in the country.

It is named to honor the late Dr. Wilford and Cratus “Kate” Bailey. Dr. Bailey, a 1942 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine, served 50 years of continuous academic and administrative service to Auburn, including serving as Auburn University’s 13th President.

The Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital provides patient care through its 13 services to more than 14,000 companion animal patients per year.

The Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital has the following specialty services:

JOHN THOMAS VAUGHAN LARGE ANIMAL TEACHING HOSPITALEquine, livestock/farm animals

The John Thomas Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital houses one of the oldest professional programs in the nation.

Advancements in internal medicine and surgical techniques, an internationally recognized faculty and a comprehensive consultation program keep Auburn on the cutting edge of modern large animal surgery and medicine.

The facility bears the name of legendary equine veterinarian Dr. J.T. Vaughan. For more than 60 years, Dr. Vaughan has been associated with Auburn veterinary medicine; he earned a DVM in 1955 and was the fifth dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The teaching hospital has earned both national and international reputations in reproduction, surgery, internal medicine, lameness evaluation and large animal therapeutics.

The Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital provided care to more than 4,200 large animal patients last year in the areas of:

THE AUBURN UNIVERSITY VETERINARY CLINICA Community Practice

The Auburn University Veterinary Clinic is a full-service, primary-care veterinary clinic for preventative and wellness care for pets in the community.

Located in the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital, no referral is necessary to make an appointment.

The AUVC offers state-of-the-art preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic care for all stages of a pet’s life,

from ensuring healthy growth, promoting health and well-being, to alleviating illness, pain and suffering.

The Avian and Exotic Service within the AUVC provides wellness care, specialized diagnostic testing, medical treatments, surgical options and emergency care for exotic companion animals. Animals seen in the service include birds; turtles; rabbits; non-venomous snakes and other reptiles; pocket pets including hedge hogs, ferrets, guinea pigs, gerbils and hamsters; and pet chickens.

While the AUVC focuses on wellness and disease prevention, should a pet have a more complex diagnosis or a health crisis, referral to a specialty service in the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital can be provided.
